On first glance it looks like what people have been waiting for since 00, but I personally have some... misgivings about the staff.
Mecha design is a bit weird as well. That Gundam looks like it could snap in half any moment now.

The show is set 300 years after a great conflict between Earth and Mars known as the "Calamity War." A woman named Cordelia sets out on a journey to Earth to speak for the independence of the Martian city of Chryse, which is under the control of the Earth government. Escorting her is the private security company CGS, which protagonists Mikazuki Augus and Orga Itsuka are members of. When a group named Gjallarhorn attacks CGS and Cordelia, Orga sees this as a chance to rebel against CGS and launch a coup. Mikazuki and Orga are thrust into a new conflict. To fend off Gjallarhorn, Mikazuki rides an old mobile suit from the Calamity War, powered by a nuclear reactor, the Gundam Barbatos.
The Barbatos is described as a mobile suit that steals weapons, armor, and parts from enemies to become stronger.
Another failure or finally something good again..?
Do you really have to ask?

I don't mean to say that Nagai Tatsuyuki and Okada Mari are incompetent, but I do agree that this doesn't look like their kind of show.
Sunrise must be pretty desperate to make their Gundam shows stop failing if they're willing to try something as quite unorthodox, to say the least, as bringing people who don't make mecha shows to be key staff.

So, now Gundam has to rip off stuff to become better?
I guess this means that the mecha are finally going to do the same thing the shows have been doing for a while now.
It looks the gundam design this time has taken a lot from samurai troopers. For some reason the design feels off, it has the gundam colours, and a V on his head but still doesnt feel GUNDAM enough for me.
Tomino still part credited for the orignal story so I expect complex plot with multiple factions, however the director and series composer don't seem like have much experience in mecha anime, or else worked on anime with complex plots and politics.

Surely they know something about leading (what looks like) a serious Gundam anime?!

He's credited for Original Work on every Gundam because he created the franchise. He has nothing to do with the content of pretty much anything he doesn't direct/write.
Checked the official website this series is set 300 years after an apocalypse the gundam is named Gundam Barbatos and MC piloting it is Mikazuki Augus (the small guy on the cover) an orphan. The other guy on the cover (the tall one with white hair) is Called Orga Istuka and grew together with the Augus they are both MC.
@Toothbrush yeah thought it might be the case

The fujoshi pandering is strong in this one.
No, but seriously, it looks fine, like every Gundam show (except AGE). Maybe a bit more grounded/real robot-ish than SEED and 00 2nd, for now at least. I'm sure they'll do away with that rather quickly and Barbatos becomes unbeatable.
But the best part in that PV is the music.
Oh, and the timeline this is set in seems to be named Post Disaster.
^LMAO Reconquista and Age, howver Reconquista artistry was fine (backgrounds, mecha animation etc) the only problem was the non sensical behaviour of every character in the show
What If the cataclism turns out to refer to A Turn-A technology reset wouldnt that be cool I remember that I was so excited when I watched the dark history in Turn-A Gundam which kinda can be interpreted as all gundam timelines are related
if the C.E timeline is a sort of remake of the U.C timeline and the A.D timeline is a sort of remake of A.C timeline the i guess Post disaster might be a sort of remake of the A.W timeline (After war Gundam x) what with the main gundam being an old mobile suit rather than a brand new one and all.
anyhow the trailer looks promising to me but then again anything can look good in a trailer.
as far as the story goes wouldnt it be a real twist the two mains Angus and Orga does NOT end up as enemies?
^Fakar wonder about that Orga has a malicious smile in the pv, I think it is already set for them to be fighting, but in Seed probably by the end they make up

well yeah i also think thats really likely thats why it would be a twist it didnt happend
The only surprise we could expect from Sunrise is a not train wreck series, unlike anything they made the past few years after Geass.
