When Astarion had made a ploy to draw in the strange elf he had seen aboard the Nautiloid and then held him at knife point to demand answers, he never expected it to end cordially to the point he was travelling with him in hopes to find a cure to their Tadpole issue.
Yet here he was.
Which wasn't the worse scenario he had found himself in, far from it, but when he takes a serious wound in one of their many skirmishes and finds he's out of curatives, he knows he's done for since pickpocketing anyone becomes an impossibility due to his injury and Tav has an annoying habit of keeping his pack close at hand.
Thus Astarion merely keeps quiet about the injury and hopes it'll remedy itself, whilst trying to keep up with Tav so he doesn't get left behind, or mercy-killed. The wood elf seems kind enough to at least grant him that, but he'd rather avoid dying if he could.
But whatever the Tadpole has done to his body, it's not healing as it usually does and soon enough the wound infected and he can no longer hide it.
