Close the Blinds

Summary:

Dani is feeling crummy and Junior sees an opportunity

Notes:

Written for Sicktember prompt 1: "I'm not hungover, I'm just sick" (Or vice versa)

Work Text:

“Rise and shine, sleepyhead.” Junior poked his head into Dani’s room. “Dad’s waiting for you at breakfast. He said something about a briefing before a horse auction?”

Dani groaned and rolled over, covering her head with the pillow. “Could you close the blinds? The sun’s too bright.”

Junior frowned but did as she asked. “You feelin’ okay? You normally only complain about the sun when you’re sick.”

“I’m not sick, I’m just hungover,” Dani muttered.

“Since when do you get hungover?” Junior scoffed. “I thought you were a professional businesswoman that could run with the big boys.”

“Yeah, well, I went to an informal meeting on Dad’s behalf last night and, ah, the big boys like the hard stuff more than I thought they did.” She groaned and fell back on the pillows. “I could barely keep pace. I really need to up my alcohol tolerance.”

“Right…. Speaking of alcohol tolerance, Dad’s still waiting on you at breakfast. Should I tell him you need some of his old hangover cure or-”

“No!” Dani winced at her own voice. “No, don’t tell him that. Just- Tell him I have a cold.”

Junior hummed. “I could do that….. Buuuuuttttttt lying to Dad doesn’t come cheap.”

His sister groaned. “Okay, fine, what do you want?”

He grinned. “I need a little cover of my own this weekend. I told Dad I’m going to a horse auction and I need you to keep the story straight.”

She narrowed her eyes. “But you are going to Sacramento for an auction….”

“Yeah, but not alone .”

Dani groaned. “Damn it. Forget I said anything, I don’t want to know more. Just- Actually come back with a horse? Please?”

“Don’t worry about that. I don’t need Dad asking me a bunch of questions about it. Just keep the story straight.”

“Fine. Deal.”

They shook on it and Junior left the room with a grin. As he headed downstairs, he texted Kris that they were still on for the weekend trip.

So long as he came back with a horse, who really cared what else he did while he was there?
