We prove a lower bound for the exponent of the relative class group $\mathrm{Pic}^0 X_1/\phi^* \mathrm{Pic}^0 X_2$ for a covering of curves $X_1 \to X_2$ over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$. The results improve on the existing best bounds (due to Stichtenoth) in the case $X_2=\mathbb{P}^1$, when the relative class group equals the class group of the function field $\mathbb{F}_q(X_1)$, and are completely new for the genuinely relative situation.

Title: On the Rankin-Selberg gamma factor of simple supercuspidal representations of the unitary group for $p$-adic local fieldsSubjects: Number Theory (math.NT)
Let $\pi$ be a simple supercuspidal representation of the quasi-split unramified even unitary group with respect to an unramified quadratic extension $E/F$ of $p$-adic fields. We compute the Rankin-Selberg gamma factor for rank-$1$ twists of $\pi$ by a tamely ramified character of $E^\times$. For non-dyadic cases, the gamma factor can also be recovered by considering the endoscopic lift of the representation. For the dyadic case, the result is original and we expect to extend the results on the Langlands parameter of the simple supercuspidal representations to the dyadic case with our computation.

We determine the asymptotic behavior of the coefficients of Hecke polynomials. In particular, this allows us to determine signs of these coefficients when the level or the weight is sufficiently large. In all but finitely many cases, this also verifies a conjecture on the nanvanishing of the coefficients of Hecke polynomials.

Using the cyclotomic identity we compute sums over d-tuples of monic polynomials in F_q[x] weighted by the multiplicity of their irreducible factors. As consequences we determine explicit expressions for the number of d-tuples of polynomials such that their greatest common divisor is rth power free. We also compute the number of monic polynomials where the multiplicity of each irreducible factor belongs to the monoid generated by two relatively prime integers.

Title: Brauer-Manin obstructions for homogeneous spaces of commutative affine algebraic groups over global fieldsComments: 23 pagesSubjects: Number Theory (math.NT); Algebraic Geometry (math.AG)
Questions related to Brauer-Manin obstructions to the Hasse principle and weak approximation for homogeneous spaces of tori over a number field are well-studied, generally using arithmetic duality theorems, starting with works of Sansuc and of Colliot-Thélène. In this article, we prove the analogous statements (and include obstructions to strong approximation over finite places) in the general case of a commutative affine group scheme $G$ of finite type over a global field in any characteristic. We also study finiteness of different variants of the second Tate-Shafarevich kernel (such as $S$-kernels and $\omega$-kernels) of the Cartier dual of $G$. All this is made possible by some recent theoretical advancements in positive characteristic, namely the finiteness theorems of B. Conrad and the generalized Tate duality of Z. Rosengarten.

We study solutions to the equation $a+b=c$, where $a,b,c$ form a triple of coprime natural numbers. The $abc$ conjecture asserts that, for any $\epsilon>0$, such triples satisfy $\mathrm{rad}(abc) \ge c^{1-\epsilon}$ with finitely many exceptions. In this article we obtain a power-saving bound on the exceptional set of triples. Specifically, we show that there are $O(X^{33/50})$ integer triples $(a,b,c)\in [1,X]^3$, which satisfy $\mathrm{rad}(abc) < c^{1-\epsilon}$. The proof is based on a combination of bounds for the density of integer points on varieties, coming from the determinant method, Thue equations, geometry of numbers, and Fourier analysis.

Title: Chaining Multiplications in Finite Fields with Chudnovsky-type Algorithms and Tensor Rank of the k-multiplicationSubjects: Number Theory (math.NT); Algebraic Geometry (math.AG)
We design a class of Chudnovsky-type algorithms multiplying k elements of a finite extension of order n a finite field K. We prove that these algorithms give a tensor decomposition of the k-multiplication for which the rank is linear in n uniformly in $q$. We give uniform upper bounds of the rank of k-multiplication in finite fields. They use interpolation on algebraic curves which transforms the problem in computing the Hadamard product of $k$ vectors with components in K. This generalization of the widely studied case of $k=2$ is based on a modification of the Riemann-Roch spaces involved and the use of towers of function fields having a lot of places of high degree.

For every finite group $H$ and every finite $H$-module $A$, we determine the subgroup of negligible classes in $H^2(H,A)$, in the sense of Serre, over fields with enough roots of unity. As a consequence, we show that for every odd prime $p$, every integer $n\geq 3$, and every field $F$ containing a primitive $p$-th root of unity, there exists a continuous $n$-dimensional mod $p$ representation of the absolute Galois group of $F(x_1,\dots,x_p)$ which does not lift modulo $p^2$. This answers a question of Khare and Serre, and disproves a conjecture of Florence.

We propose a systematic method for analyzing Rohrlich-type divisor sums for arbitrary congruence subgroups $\Gamma_0(N)$. Our main theorem unifies various results from the literature, and its significance is illustrated through the following five applications: (1) the valence formula, (2) a natural generalization of classical Rohrlich's formula to level $N$, (3) an explicit version of the theorem by Bringmann-Kane-Löbrich-Ono-Rolen, (4) an extension of the generalized Rohrlich formula proposed by Bringmann-Kane, and (5) an alternative proof of the decomposition formula for twisted traces of CM values of weight 0 Eisenstein series.

Title: Explicit Representatives and Sizes of Cyclotomic Cosets and their Application to Cyclic Codes over Finite FieldsComments: 30 pagesSubjects: Information Theory (cs.IT); Number Theory (math.NT)
Cyclotomic coset is a basic notion which has wide application in various computation problems. Let $q$ be a prime power, and $n$ be a positive integer coprime to $q$. In this paper we determine explicitly the representatives and the sizes of all $q$-cyclotomic cosets modulo $n$ in the general settings. Instead of the $q$-cyclotomic cosets modulo a fixed integer, we consider the profinite spaces of compatible sequences of $q$-cyclotomic cosets modulo $2^{N}n^{\prime}$ for $N \geq 0$, where $n^{\prime}$ is the maximal odd divisor of $n$, with a fixed leader component. We give precise characterization of the structure of these profinite spaces, which reveals the general formula for representatives of cyclotomic cosets. As applications, we determine the generator polynomials of all cyclic codes over finite fields, and further enumerate and depict the self-dual cyclic codes.

Based on BONGs theory, we prove the norm principle for integral and relative integral spinor norms of quadratic forms over general dyadic local fields, respectively. In a recent paper, Bilu et al. studied a conjecture of Marques and Lengyel on the $p$-adic valuation of the Tribonacci sequence. In this article, we study the $p$-adic valuation of third order linear recurrence sequences by considering a generalisation of the conjecture of Marques and Lengyel for third order linear recurrence sequences. Suppose that $(x_n)$ is a third order linear recurrence sequence whose characteristic polynomial has a root $\gamma$ such that $|\gamma|>1$. We show that if there exists a prime $p$ for which the conjecture holds for $(x_n)$, then the solution set of the Diophantine equation given by $x_n=m!$ in positive integers $n,m$ is finite. We also show that the solutions can be effectively computed when the form of the conjecture is explicitly known.

We prove quantitative estimates for averages of the von Mangoldt and Möbius functions along polynomial progressions $n+P_1(m),\ldots, n+P_k(m)$ for a large class of polynomials $P_i$. The error terms obtained save an arbitrary power of logarithm, matching the classical Siegel--Walfisz error term. These results give the first quantitative bounds for the Tao--Ziegler polynomial patterns in the primes result.

This paper finds all Lucas numbers which are the sum of two Jacobsthal numbers. It also finds all Jacobsthal numbers which are the sum of two Lucas numbers. In general, we find all non-negative integer solutions $(n, m, k)$ of the two Diophantine equations $L_n +L_m =J_k$ and $J_n +J_m =L_K,$ where $\left\lbrace L_{k}\right\rbrace_{k\geq0}$ and $\left\lbrace J_{n}\right\rbrace_{n\geq0}$ are the sequences of Lucas and Jacobsthal numbers, respectively. Our primary results are supported by an adaption of the Baker's theorem for linear forms in logarithms and Dujella and Pethő's reduction method.

We classify finite groups that act faithfully by symplectic birational transformations on an irreducible holomorphic symplectic (IHS) manifold of OG10 type. In particular, if X is an IHS manifold of OG10 type and G a finite subgroup of symplectic birational transformations of X, then the action of G on H2(X, Z) is conjugate to a subgroup of one of 375 groups of isometries. We prove a criterion for when such a group is determined by a group of automorphisms acting on a cubic fourfold, and apply it to our classification. Our proof is computer aided.

Let $k$ be a finite field and let $G$ be a reductive group over $k[[\pi]]$. Suppose $\mathrm{char}(k)$ is larger than twice the Coxeter number of $G$, we prove the standard endoscopic fundamental lemma for the spherical Hecke algebra of $G$ using multiplicative Hitchin fibrations.
