Abstract:
The results of an analysis of the invariant mass spectra of photon pairs produced in dC, pC and dCu interactions at momenta of 2.75, 5.5 and 3.83 GeV/c per nucleon respectively, are presented. Signals in the form of enhanced structures at invariant masses of about 17 and 38 MeV/c2 are observed. The results of testing of the observed signals, including the results of the Monte Carlo simulation are presented. The test results support the conclusion that the observed signals are the consequence of detection of the particles with masses of about 17 and 38 MeV/c2 decaying into a pair of photons.

From superconductors to atomic nuclei, strongly-interacting many-body systems are ubiquitous in nature. Measuring the microscopic structure of such systems is a formidable challenge, often met by particle knockout scattering experiments. While such measurements are fundamental for mapping the structure of atomic nuclei, their interpretation is often challenged by quantum mechanical initial- and final-state interactions (ISI/FSI) of the incoming and scattered particles. Here we overcome this fundamental limitation by measuring the quasi-free scattering of 48 GeV/c 12C ions from hydrogen. The distribution of single protons is studied by detecting two protons at large angles in coincidence with an intact 11B nucleus. The 11B detection is shown to select the transparent part of the reaction and exclude the otherwise large ISI/FSI that would break the 11B apart. By further detecting residual 10B and 10Be nuclei, we also identified short-range correlated (SRC) nucleon-nucleon pairs, and provide direct experimental evidence for the separation of the pair wave-function from that of the residual many-body nuclear system. All measured reactions are well described by theoretical calculations that do not contain ISI/FSI distortions. Our results thus showcase a new ability to study the short-distance structure of short-lived radioactive atomic nuclei at the forthcoming FAIR and FRIB facilities. These studies will be pivotal for developing a ground-breaking microscopic understanding of the structure and properties of nuclei far from stability and the formation of visible matter in the universe.

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of equilibrium structures and flows of polar water, nonpolar argon and methane, and mixtures of water and methane confined by single - walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with different rectangular cross sections have been performed. The results of these simulations show that equilibrium structures and ows of all confined liquids significantly depend not only on the shape of the SWCNT's rectangular cross sections but also on the types of liquids inside SWCNTs.

Along with $π^0$ and η mesons, a resonance structure in the invariant mass spectrum of two photons at Mγγ = 360 \pm 7 \pm 9 MeV is observed in the reaction d + C \rightarrow γ + γ + X at momentum 2.75 GeV/c per nucleon. The collected statistics amount to 2339 \pm 340 events of 1.5 \cdot 10^6 triggered interactions of a total number ~ 10^12 of dC-interactions. The results on observation of the resonance in the invariant mass spectra of two $π^0$ mesons are presented: the data obtained in the d + C \rightarrow γ + γ reaction is confirmed by the d + C \rightarrow $π^0$ + $π^0$ reaction: $M_{π^0π^0}$ = 359.2 \pm 1.9 MeV, Γ = 48.9 \pm 4.9 MeV; the ratio of Br(R\rightarrowγγ) / Br(R\rightarrow$π^0π^0$) = (1.8 ÷ 3.7)\cdot10^-3.

Numerous theoretical and experimental arguments are presented in favor of the generation of intermediate $σ$-dressed dibaryon in $NN$ interaction at intermediate and short distances. We argue that this intermediate dibaryon can be responsible for the strong intermediate-range attraction and the short-range repulsion in the $NN$ interaction, and also for the short-range correlations in nuclei. The suggested mechanism for the $σ$-dressing of the dibaryon is identical to that which explains the Roper resonance structure, its dominant decay modes and its extraordinary low mass. A similar transformation mechanism from the glue to the scalar field was discovered in $J/Ψ$ decays. The new experimental data on 2$π$-production in the scalar-isoscalar channel produced in $pn$- and $pd$-collisions and in particular the very recent data on $γγ$ correlations in $p$C and $d$C scattering in the GeV region seems to corroborate the existence of the $σ$-dressed dibaryon in two- and three nucleon interactions.
