We studied the proton-rich $T_z=-1$ nucleus $^{70}$Kr through inelastic scattering at intermediate energies in order to extract the reduced transition probability, $B(E2;\;0^+ \rightarrow 2^+)$. Comparison with the other members of the $A=70$ isospin triplet, $^{70}$Br and $^{70}$Se, studied in the same experiment, shows a $3σ$ deviation from the expected linearity of the electromagnetic matrix elements as a function of $T_z$.
At present, no established nuclear structure theory can describe this observed deviation quantitatively. This is the first violation of isospin symmetry at this level observed in the transition matrix elements. A heuristic approach may explain the anomaly by a shape change between the mirror nuclei $^{70}$Kr and $^{70}$Se contrary to the model predictions.

The $N=Z=36$ nucleus $^{72}$Kr has been studied by inelastic scattering at intermediate energies. Two targets, $^{9}$Be and $^{197}$Au, were used to extract the nuclear deformation length, $δ_\text{N}$, and the reduced $E2$ transition probability, $B(E2)$. The previously unknown non-yrast $2^+$ and $4^+$ states as well as a new candidate for the octupole $3^-$ state have been observed in the scattering on the Be target and placed in the level scheme based on $γ-γ$ coincidences. The second $2^+$ state was also observed in the scattering on the Au target and the $B(E2;\;2^+_2 \rightarrow 0^+_1)$ value could be determined for the first time. Analyzing the results in terms of a two-band mixing model shows clear evidence for a oblate-prolate shape coexistence and can be explained by a shape change from an oblate ground state to prolate deformed yrast band from the first $2^+$ state. This interpretation is corroborated by beyond mean field calculations using the Gogny D1S interaction.

The lifetimes of first excited 2$^+$, 4$^+$ and 6$^+$ states in $^{98}$Zr were measured with the Recoil-Distance Doppler Shift method in an experiment performed at GANIL. Excited states in $^{98}$Zr were populated using the fission reaction between a 6.2 MeV/u $^{238}$U beam and a $^{9}$Be target. The $γ$ rays were detected with the EXOGAM array in correlation with the fission fragments identified in mass and atomic number in the VAMOS++ spectrometer. Our result shows very small B(E2;2$_1^+$ $\rightarrow$ 0$_1^+$) value in $^{98}$Zr thereby confirming the very sudden onset of collectivity at $N=60$. The experimental results are compared to large-scale Monte Carlo Shell model and beyond mean field calculations. The present results indicate coexistence of two additional deformed shapes in this nucleus along with the spherical ground state.

The electromagnetic structure of $^{140}$Sm was studied in a low-energy Coulomb excitation experiment with a radioactive ion beam from the REX-ISOLDE facility at CERN. The $2^+$ and $4^+$ states of the ground-state band and a second $2^+$ state were populated by multi-step excitation. The analysis of the differential Coulomb excitation cross sections yielded reduced transition probabilities between all observed states and the spectroscopic quadrupole moment for the $2_1^+$ state. The experimental results are compared to large-scale shell model calculations and beyond-mean-field calculations based on the Gogny D1S interaction with a five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian formalism. Simpler geometric and algebraic models are also employed to interpret the experimental data. The results indicate that $^{140}$Sm shows considerable $γ$ softness, but in contrast to earlier speculation no signs of shape coexistence at low excitation energy. This work sheds more light on the onset of deformation and collectivity in this mass region.

The effect of in-medium dinucleon bound states on self-consistent single-particle fields in Brueckner, Bethe and Goldstone theory is investigated in symmetric nuclear matter at zero temperature. To this end, dinucleon bound state occurences in the $^1S_0$ and ${}^3SD_1$ channels are explicitly accounted for -within the continuous choice for the auxiliary fields- while imposing self-consistency in Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approximation calculations. Searches are carried out at Fermi momenta in the range $0<k_F\leq1.75$~fm$^{-1}$, using the Argonne $v_{18}$ bare nucleon-nucleon potential without resorting to the effective mass approximation. As a result, two distinct solutions meeting the self-consistency requirement are found with overlapping domains in the interval $0.130\;\textrm{fm}^{-1} \leq k_F \leq 0.285\;\textrm{fm}^{-1}$, corresponding to mass densities between $10^{11.4}$ and $10^{12.4}$ g cm$^{-3}$. Effective masses as high as three times the nucleon mass are found in the coexistence domain. The emergence of superfluidity in relationship with BCS pairing gap solutions is discussed.

Angular correlations arising from particle-particle (pp) propagation in nuclear matter are investigated. Their account follows an exact treatment of the Pauli exclusion principle on intermediate states in the Bruekner-Bethe-Goldstone (BBG) equation. As a result, a correlation form factor emerges from the Cauchy principal-value of the pp propagator, while the imaginary part becomes structurally different from those in Lippmann-Schwinger-type equations. These novel features modify drastically the behaviour of the mass operator near the Fermi surface, reshaping the phase-space where its imaginary part vanishes and sliding down the saturation point of symmetric nuclear matter along the Coester band. The correlation structures found here --which go beyond angle-averaged (or effective-mass type) energy denominators-- may impact present day model predictions for neutron stars based on the BBG equation, and for scattering and reaction observables in full folding optical model calculations

The constraints employed are the mass quadrupole and octupole moments. In this subspace of collective coordinates, many scission configurations are identified ranging from symmetric to highly asymmetric fragmentations. Corresponding fragment properties at scission are derived yielding fragment deformations, deformation energies, energy partitioning, neutron binding energies at scission, neutron multiplicities, charge polarization and total fragment kinetic energies.

We examine the global performance of an extended self-consistent mean field theory of 2+ excitations in even-even nuclei. 518 nuclei are included in our survey, comprising all but 39 of the known nuclei tabulated by Raman et al. The theory is based on a quantal collective Hamiltonian in five dimensions in which the potential energy and the tensor of inertia are obtained from constrained triaxial Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations. The only parameters in theory are those of the finite-range, density-dependent Gogny D1S interaction. The following properties of the lowest 2+ excitations are calculated: excitation energy, reduced transition probability, and spectroscopic quadrupole moment. We find that the theory is very reliable to classify the nuclei by shape. Quantitatively the performance of the theory in deformed nuclei is excellent: average excitation energies and transition quadrupole moments are within 5% of the experimental values, and the dispersion about the averages are 20% and 10%, respectively. The performance is not as good on spherical and soft nuclei. Including all nuclei in the performance evaluation, the average transition quadrupole moment is 10% too high and the dispersion about the mean is 20%. For the energies, the average is 13% too high and the dispersion is 40%.
