An improved description of charm fragmentation data
Abstract: We consider the fragmentation of heavy quarks into heavy-flavoured hadrons, specifically the production of charmed mesons in $e^+e^-$ collisions, at different centre-of-mass energies. We focus our attention on the ratio of moments of the $D^{*+}$ energy spectrum measured by ALEPH and CLEO. This ratio is believed to provide us with a direct test of perturbative QCD evolution because hadronisation e… ▽ More

On heavy-flavour jets with Soft Drop
Abstract: We study hadronic jets that are tagged as heavy-flavoured, i.e. they contain either beauty or charm. In particular, we consider heavy-flavour jets that have been groomed with the Soft Drop algorithm. In order to achieve a deeper understanding of these objects, we apply resummed perturbation theory to jets initiated by a massive quark and we perform analytic calculations for two variables that char… ▽ More

A consistent resummation of mass and soft logarithms in processes with heavy flavours
Abstract: Perturbative calculations for processes that involve heavy flavours can be performed in two approaches: the massive scheme and the massless one. The former enables one to fully account for the heavy-quark kinematics, while the latter allows one to resum potentially-large mass logarithms. Furthermore, the two schemes can be combined to take advantage of the virtues of each of them. Both massive and… ▽ More

Soft resummation in processes with heavy quark: bridging the gap from 4-flavor to 5-flavor scheme
Abstract: In this work we present a new approach to threshold resummation in processes with heavy quarks. In particular we will focus on the differential decay rate of a color-singlet particle into a $b \bar b$ pair and we will show how to resum in a consistent way both the logarithms of the mass and the logarithms of the heavy flavor energy fraction. Within this framework, we match the two different approa… ▽ More

Non commutativity between massless and soft limit in processes with heavy quarks
Abstract: Processes involving heavy quarks can be computed in perturbation theory in two different ways: we can adopt a scheme in which the mass of the quark is considered only as a regulator of the collinear divergences because of the fact that the hard scale of the process is far bigger or we can consider the quark as a massive particle. Each picture has its own advantages and drawbacks: we investigate th… ▽ More

Soft logarithms in processes with heavy quarks
Abstract: Observables involving heavy quarks can be computed in perturbative QCD in two different approximation schemes: either the quark mass dependence is fully retained, or it is retained only where needed to regulate the collinear singularity. The two schemes have different advantages and drawbacks. In particular, it is known that the structure of large logarithms arising from soft emissions is differen… ▽ More
