The Elementary Theory of the Frobenius Automorphisms
Abstract: A Frobenius difference field is an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$, enriched with a symbol for $x \mapsto x^{p^m}$. We study a sentence or formula in the language of fields with a distinguished automorphism, interpreted in Frobenius difference fields with $p$ or $m$ tending to infinity. In particular, a decision procedure is found to determine when a sentence is true in almost e… ▽ More

Generalizations of Kochen and Specker's Theorem and the Effectiveness of Gleason's Theorem
Abstract: Kochen and Specker's theorem can be seen as a consequence of Gleason's theorem and logical compactness. Similar compactness arguments lead to stronger results about finite sets of rays in Hilbert space, which we also prove by a direct construction. Finally, we demonstrate that Gleason's theorem itself has a constructive proof, based on a generic, finite, effectively generated set of rays, on whi… ▽ More

The uncountable spectra of countable theories
Abstract: Let T be a complete, first-order theory in a finite or countable language having infinite models. Let I(T,kappa) be the number of isomorphism types of models of T of cardinality
κ . We denote byμ (respectively \hatμ ) the number of cardinals (respectively infinite cardinals) less than or equal toκ . We prove that I(T,κ ), as a function ofκ > \aleph_0, is the minimum of 2^κ and one of the following… ▽ MoreSubmitted 30 June, 2000; originally announced July 2000.

Lascar and Morley ranks differ in differentially closed fields
Abstract: We note here, in answer to a question of Poizat, that the Morley and Lascar ranks need not coincide in differentially closed fields. We approach this through the (perhaps) more fundamental issue of the variation of Morley rank in families.

Zariski Geometries
Abstract: We characterize the Zariski topologies over an algebraically closed field in terms of general dimension-theoretic properties. Some applications are given to complex manifold and to strongly minimal sets.
