Unveiling the emergence and prevalence of massive/bright galaxies during the epoch of reionization and beyond, within the first 600 million years of the Universe, stands as a pivotal pursuit in astronomy. Remarkable progress has been made by JWST in identifying an immense population of bright galaxies, which hints at exceptionally efficient galaxy assembly processes. However, the underlying physical mechanisms propelling their rapid growth remain unclear. With this in mind, millimeter and submillimeter-wave spectroscopic observations of redshifted far-infrared spectral lines, particularly the [O III] 88 micron and [C II] 158 micron lines, offers a crucial pathway to address this fundamental query.
To this end, we develop a dual-polarization sideband-separating superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) mixer receiver, FINER, for the Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT) situated in Mexico. Harnessing advancements from ALMA's wideband sensitivity upgrade (WSU) technology, FINER covers radio frequencies spanning 120-360 GHz, delivering an instantaneous intermediate frequency (IF) of 3-21 GHz per sideband per polarization, which is followed by a set of 10.24 GHz-wide digital spectrometers. At 40% of ALMA's light-collecting area, the LMT's similar atmospheric transmittance and FINER's 5 times wider bandwidth compared to ALMA culminate in an unparalleled spectral scanning capability in the northern hemisphere, paving the way for finer spectral-resolution detection of distant galaxies.

Spectroscopic observations of the far-infrared [O III] and [C II] lines present a pathway to explore the mechanisms of the emergence of massive galaxies in the epoch of reionization and beyond, which is one of the most fundamental questions in astronomy. To address this question, the Far-Infrared Nebular Emission Receiver (FINER) project is developing two wideband dual-polarization sideband-separating heterodyne receivers at 120--210 GHz and 210--360 GHz for the Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT) in Mexico. Compared with Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), LMT provides 40% of ALMA's light-collecting area and a similar atmospheric transmittance, but FINER plans to have an instantaneous intermediate frequency (IF) of 3--21 GHz per sideband per polarization which is five times wider than current ALMA's bandwidth. Therefore, FINER is going to offer cutting-edge spectral scanning capability in the next several years.
The project is currently in an active development phase. In this proceeding, the latest development status for FINER, including the optics, wideband waveguide components as well as low-noise superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) mixers is reported.

Topological design of pi-electrons in zigzag-edged graphene nanoribbons (ZGNRs) leads to a wealth of magnetic quantum phenomena and exotic quantum phases. Symmetric ZGNRs typically exhibit antiferromagnetically coupled spin-ordered edge states. Eliminating cross-edge magnetic coupling in ZGNRs not only enables the realization of a new class of ferromagnetic quantum spin chains, enabling the exploration of quantum spin physics and entanglement of multiple qubits in the 1D limit, but also establishes a long-sought carbon-based ferromagnetic transport channel, pivotal for ultimate scaling of GNR-based quantum electronics. However, designing such GNRs entails overcoming daunting challenges, including simultaneous breaking of structural and spin symmetries, and designing elegant precursors for asymmetric fabrication of reactive zigzag edges. Here, we report a general approach for designing and fabricating such ferromagnetic GNRs in the form of Janus GNRs with two distinct edge configurations. Guided by Lieb's theorem and topological classification theory, we devised two JGNRs by asymmetrically introduced a topological defect array of benzene motifs to one zigzag edge, while keeping the opposing zigzag edge unchanged. This breaks structural symmetry and creates a sublattice imbalance within each unit cell, initiating a spin symmetry breaking. Three Z-shape precursors are designed to fabricate one parent ZGNR and two JGNRs with an optimal lattice spacing of the defect array for a complete quench of the magnetic edge states at the defective edge. Characterization via scanning probe microscopy/spectroscopy and first-principles density functional theory confirms the successful fabrication of Janus GNRs with ferromagnetic ground state delocalised along the pristine zigzag edge.

Performing facial expression transfer under one-shot setting has been increasing in popularity among research community with a focus on precise control of expressions. Existing techniques showcase compelling results in perceiving expressions, but they lack robustness with extreme head poses. They also struggle to accurately reconstruct background details, thus hindering the realism. In this paper, we propose a novel warping technology which integrates the advantages of both 2D and 3D methods to achieve robust face re-enactment. We generate dense 3D facial flow fields in feature space to warp an input image based on target expressions without depth information. This enables explicit 3D geometric control for re-enacting misaligned source and target faces. We regularize the motion estimation capability of the 3D flow prediction network through proposed "Cyclic warp loss" by converting warped 3D features back into 2D RGB space. To ensure the generation of finer facial region with natural-background, our framework only renders the facial foreground region first and learns to inpaint the blank area which needs to be filled due to source face translation, thus reconstructing the detailed background without any unwanted pixel motion. Extensive evaluation reveals that our method outperforms state-of-the-art techniques in rendering artifact-free facial images.

Current decoder-based pre-trained language models (PLMs) successfully demonstrate multilingual capabilities. However, it is unclear how these models handle multilingualism. We analyze the neuron-level internal behavior of multilingual decoder-based PLMs, Specifically examining the existence of neurons that fire ``uniquely for each language'' within decoder-only multilingual PLMs. We analyze six languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese, and show that language-specific neurons are unique, with a slight overlap (< 5%) between languages. These neurons are mainly distributed in the models' first and last few layers. This trend remains consistent across languages and models. Additionally, we tamper with less than 1% of the total neurons in each model during inference and demonstrate that tampering with a few language-specific neurons drastically changes the probability of target language occurrence in text generation.

While Large Language Models (LLMs) have achieved remarkable performance in many tasks, much about their inner workings remains unclear. In this study, we present novel experimental insights into the resilience of LLMs, particularly GPT-4, when subjected to extensive character-level permutations. To investigate this, we first propose the Scrambled Bench, a suite designed to measure the capacity of LLMs to handle scrambled input, in terms of both recovering scrambled sentences and answering questions given scrambled context. The experimental results indicate that most powerful LLMs demonstrate the capability akin to typoglycemia, a phenomenon where humans can understand the meaning of words even when the letters within those words are scrambled, as long as the first and last letters remain in place. More surprisingly, we found that only GPT-4 nearly flawlessly processes inputs with unnatural errors, even under the extreme condition, a task that poses significant challenges for other LLMs and often even for humans. Specifically, GPT-4 can almost perfectly reconstruct the original sentences from scrambled ones, decreasing the edit distance by 95%, even when all letters within each word are entirely scrambled. It is counter-intuitive that LLMs can exhibit such resilience despite severe disruption to input tokenization caused by scrambled text.

Amphiphilic molecules spontaneously form self-assembly structures based on physical conditions such as molecular structure, concentration, and temperature. These structures exhibit various useful functions according to their morphology. The concept of the critical packing parameter serves to correlate self-organized structures with chemical composition. However, unless both molecular arrangement and self-assembly patterns are understood, direct computational utilization for molecular design remains challenging. In this study, we attempt to predict the self-assembled structure of a molecule directly from its chemical structure and analyze factors influencing it using machine learning. Dissipative particle dynamics simulations were used to reproduce many self-assembly structures composed of various chemical structures, and their critical packing parameters were calculated. A machine learning model was built using the chemical structures as input data and the critical packing parameters as output data.As a result, both Random Forest and a type of Recurrent Neural Network known as GRU demonstrated high predictive accuracy. It has been revealed through feature importance analysis and dependence on sample size that the amphiphilic nature of molecules significantly influences the self-assembly structures. Additionally, the importance of selecting an appropriate molecular structure representation for each algorithm has been emphasized. The results of this research will help to further streamline product development in the fields of materials science, materials chemistry, and medical materials.

When applying ANC in a three-dimensional space by using multiple microphones and loudspeakers, the loudspeaker output can amplify noise outside a region of target positions because most of current ANC methods do not take into consideration the exterior radiation of secondary loudspeakers. We propose a normalized least mean square algorithm for feedforward ANC in the frequency domain based on the Riemannian optimization to update the control filter with the exterior radiation power constrained to a target value. The advantages of the proposed method, compared with the algorithm using a penalty term of exterior radiation, were validated by numerical experiments: the exterior radiation power can be constrained during the adaptation process and the parameter for the constraint can be determined in advance.

Shatterproof polymer films are widely for windows used because they can be easily installed on existing glass windows to improve safety. Applying them to glass plates has been reported to not only prevent fragments from scattering but also increase load-bearing capacity and penetration resistance. However, the clarification of their mechanism and quantitative evaluation are still insufficient because the effect of film application on the strength and failure mode of glass under quasi-static loading has not been investigated. In this study, three-point bending tests and fracture surface observations were conducted on a float glass with a shatterproof polymer film. The stress field formed inside the glass was visualised during the tests using the photoelastic method. By varying the support span of the specimen, the deformation mode was varied to generate three types of failures: bending, shear caused by Hertzian contact stress, and mixed-mode failures. Under the conditions in the present study, the breaking loads of the specimens with and without film were almost the same; however, the fracture surface observation indicated that the area subjected to shear failure caused by Hertzian contact stress was larger with film application. Finally, the effect of the film thickness on the breaking load due to bending deformation was theoretically predicted.

Exploiting the resolution high enough for the low-mass galaxies, we derive gas dynamics with the H$α$ lines by the fitting of 3-dimensional disk models. We obtain an average maximum rotation velocity ($v_\mathrm{rot}$) of $15\pm3~\mathrm{km~s^{-1}}$ and an average intrinsic velocity dispersion ($σ_0$) of $27\pm10~\mathrm{km~s^{-1}}$ for 15 spatially resolved EMPGs out of the 33 EMPGs, and find that all of the 15 EMPGs have $v_\mathrm{rot}/σ_0<1$ suggesting dispersion dominated systems. There is a clear decreasing trend of $v_\mathrm{rot}/σ_0$ with the decreasing stellar mass and metallicity. We derive the gas mass fraction ($f_\mathrm{gas}$) for all of the 33 EMPGs, and find no clear dependence on stellar mass and metallicity. These $v_\mathrm{rot}/σ_0$ and $f_\mathrm{gas}$ trends should be compared with young high-$z$ galaxies observed by the forthcoming JWST IFS programs to understand the physical origins of the EMPGs in the local universe.

Robot manipulation tasks by natural language instructions need common understanding of the target object between human and the robot. However, the instructions often have an interpretation ambiguity, because the instruction lacks important information, or does not express the target object correctly to complete the task. To solve this ambiguity problem, we hypothesize that "naming" the target objects in advance will reduce the ambiguity of natural language instructions. We propose a robot system and method that incorporates naming with appearance of the objects in advance, so that in the later manipulation task, instruction can be performed with its unique name to disambiguate the objects easily. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, we build a system that can memorize the target objects, and show that naming the objects facilitates detection of the target objects and improves the success rate of manipulation instructions. With this method, the success rate of object manipulation task increases by 31% in ambiguous instructions.

Our ALMA spectrum shows [OIII]88$μ$m and [CII]158$μ$m line detections at $4.0σ$ and $4.5σ$, respectively. The redshift and position of the [OIII] line coincide with those of the JWST source, while the [CII] line is blue-shifted by 90 km s$^{-1}$ with a spatial offset of $0.''5$ ($\approx0.5$ kpc in source plane) from the JWST source. The NIRCam F444W image, including [OIII]$λ$5007 and H$β$ line emission, spatially extends beyond the stellar components by a factor of $>8$. This indicates that the $z=8.5$ galaxy has already experienced strong outflows whose oxygen and carbon produce the extended [OIII]$λ$5007 and the offset [CII] emission, which would promote ionizing photon escape and facilitate reionization. With careful slit-loss corrections and removals of emission spatially outside the galaxy, we evaluate the [OIII]88$μ$m/$λ$5007 line ratio, and derive the electron density $n_{\rm e}$ by photoionization modeling to be $220^{+170}_{-100}$ cm$^{-3}$, which is comparable with those of $z\sim2-3$ galaxies. We estimate an [OIII]88$μ$m/[CII]158$μ$m line ratio in the galaxy of $>4$, as high as those of known $z\sim6-9$ galaxies. This high [OIII]88$μ$m/[CII]158$μ$m line ratio is generally explained by the high $n_{\rm e}$ as well as the low metallicity ($Z_{\rm gas}/Z_{\odot}=0.04^{+0.02}_{-0.02}$), high ionization parameter ($\log U > -2.27$), and low carbon-to-oxygen abundance ratio ($\log$(C/O) $=[-0.52:-0.24]$) obtained from the JWST/NIRSpec data; further [CII] follow-up observations will constrain the covering fraction of photodissociation regions.

Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems are important because they may induce serious damage to structures. In some FSI problems, the interaction mechanism is strongly dependent on the wave propagation across the solid-fluid interface. In this study, we attempted a quantitative evaluation of the effect of the solid surface wettability on the wave propagation across the solid-fluid interface with FSI in the case of longitudinal wave propagation vertically towards the interface. During the experiments, while the water was continuously compressed by the solid buffer motion, cavitation bubbles appeared being originated from the buffer-water interface as a result of the transmitted tensile wave propagating across the interface in a cycle. It was confirmed that interfacial boundary condition as wettability could change the wave transmission behavior owing to changes in the cavitation occurrence. It was also confirmed that the worse the wettability, the severer the cavitation intensity, and the greater the difference between the energy lost by the buffer and the energy stored in the water. Consequently, the effect of the cavitation inception on the wave propagation at the solid-fluid interface with FSI could be quantitatively evaluated by considering the energy transferred from the solid to the water.

We present ALMA Band~7 observations of a remarkably bright galaxy candidate at $z_{\rm phot}$=$16.7^{+1.9}_{-0.3}$ ($M_{\rm UV}$=$-21.6$), S5-z17-1, identified in JWST Early Release Observation data of Stephen's Quintet. We do not detect the dust continuum at 866~$μ$m, ruling out the possibility that \targb\ is a low-$z$ dusty starburst with a star-formation rate of $\gtrsim 30$~$M_{\odot}$~yr$^{-1}$. We detect a 5.1$σ$ line feature at $338.726\pm0.007$~GHz exactly coinciding with the JWST source position, with a 2\% likelihood of the signal being spurious. The most likely line identification would be [OIII]52$μ$m at $z=16.01$ or [CII]158$μ$m at $z=4.61$, whose line luminosities do not violate the non-detection of the dust continuum in both cases. Together with three other $z\gtrsim$ 11--13 candidate galaxies recently observed with ALMA, we conduct a joint ALMA and JWST spectral energy distribution (SED) analysis and find that the high-$z$ solution at $z\sim$11--17 is favored in every candidate as a very blue (UV continuum slope of $\simeq-2.3$) and luminous ($M_{\rm UV}\simeq[-$24:$-21]$) system. Still, we find in several candidates that reasonable SED fits ($Δ$ $χ^{2}\lesssim4$) are reproduced by type-II quasar and/or quiescent galaxy templates with strong emission lines at $z\sim3$--5, where such populations predicted from their luminosity functions and EW([OIII]+H$β$) distributions are abundant in survey volumes used for the identification of the $z\sim$11--17 candidates. While these recent ALMA observation results have strengthened the likelihood of the high-$z$ solutions, lower-$z$ possibilities are not completely ruled out in several of the $z\sim$11--17 candidates, indicating the need to consider the relative surface densities of the lower-$z$ contaminants in the ultra high-$z$ galaxy search.

Magnetic reconnection in laser-produced magnetized plasma is investigated by using optical diagnostics. The magnetic field is generated via Biermann battery effect, and the inversely directed magnetic field lines interact with each other. It is shown by self-emission measurement that two colliding plasmas stagnate on a mid-plane forming two planar dense regions, and that they interact later in time. Laser Thomson scattering spectra are distorted in the direction of the self-generated magnetic field, indicating asymmetric ion velocity distribution and plasma acceleration. In addition, the spectra perpendicular to the magnetic field show different peak intensity, suggesting an electron current formation. These results are interpreted as magnetic field dissipation, reconnection, and outflow acceleration. Two-directional laser Thomson scattering is, as discussed here, a powerful tool for the investigation of microphysics in the reconnection region.

The atomic masses of $^{55}$Sc, $^{56,58}$Ti, and $^{56-59}$V have been determined using the high-precision multi-reflection time-of-flight technique. The radioisotopes have been produced at RIKEN's RIBF facility and delivered to the novel designed gas cell and multi-reflection system (ZD MRTOF), which has been recently commissioned downstream of the ZeroDegree spectrometer following the BigRIPS separator. For $^{56,58}$Ti and $^{56-59}$V the mass uncertainties have been reduced down to the order of $10\,\mathrm{keV}$, shedding new light on the $N=34$ shell effect in Ti and V isotopes by the first high-precision mass measurements of the critical species $^{58}$Ti and $^{59}$V. With the new precision achieved, we reveal the non-existence of the $N=34$ empirical two-neutron shell gaps for Ti and V, and the enhanced energy gap above the occupied $νp_{3/2}$ orbit is identified as a feature unique to Ca. We perform new Monte Carlo shell model calculations including the $νd_{5/2}$ and $νg_{9/2}$ orbits and compare the results with conventional shell model calculations, which exclude the $νg_{9/2}$ and the $νd_{5/2}$ orbits. The comparison indicates that the shell gap reduction in Ti is related to a partial occupation of the higher orbitals for the outer two valence neutrons at $N=34$.

A developing supercritical collisionless shock propagating in a homogeneously magnetized plasma of ambient gas origin having higher uniformity than the previous experiments is formed by using high-power laser experiment. The ambient plasma is not contaminated by the plasma produced in the early time after the laser shot. While the observed developing shock does not have stationary downstream structure, it possesses some characteristics of a magnetized supercritical shock, which are supported by a one-dimensional full particle-in-cell simulation taking the effect of finite time of laser-target interaction into account.

Vision Transformer (ViT) is becoming more popular in image processing. Specifically, we investigate the effectiveness of test-time adaptation (TTA) on ViT, a technique that has emerged to correct its prediction during test-time by itself. First, we benchmark various test-time adaptation approaches on ViT-B16 and ViT-L16. It is shown that the TTA is effective on ViT and the prior-convention (sensibly selecting modulation parameters) is not necessary when using proper loss function. Based on the observation, we propose a new test-time adaptation method called class-conditional feature alignment (CFA), which minimizes both the class-conditional distribution differences and the whole distribution differences of the hidden representation between the source and target in an online manner. Experiments of image classification tasks on common corruption (CIFAR-10-C, CIFAR-100-C, and ImageNet-C) and domain adaptation (digits datasets and ImageNet-Sketch) show that CFA stably outperforms the existing baselines on various datasets. We also verify that CFA is model agnostic by experimenting on ResNet, MLP-Mixer, and several ViT variants (ViT-AugReg, DeiT, and BeiT). Using BeiT backbone, CFA achieves 19.8% top-1 error rate on ImageNet-C, outperforming the existing test-time adaptation baseline 44.0%. This is a state-of-the-art result among TTA methods that do not need to alter training phase.

We present kinematics of 6 local extremely metal-poor galaxies (EMPGs) with low metallicities ($0.016-0.098\ Z_{\odot}$) and low stellar masses ($10^{4.7}-10^{7.6} M_{\odot}$). Taking deep medium-high resolution ($R\sim7500$) integral-field spectra with 8.2-m Subaru, we resolve the small inner velocity gradients and dispersions of the EMPGs with H$α$ emission. Carefully masking out sub-structures originated by inflow and/or outflow, we fit 3-dimensional disk models to the observed H$α$ flux, velocity, and velocity-dispersion maps. All the EMPGs show rotational velocities ($v_{\rm rot}$) of 5--23 km s$^{-1}$ smaller than the velocity dispersions ($σ_{0}$) of 17--31 km s$^{-1}$, indicating dispersion-dominated ($v_{\rm rot}/σ_{0}=0.29-0.80<1$) systems affected by inflow and/or outflow. Except for two EMPGs with large uncertainties, we find that the EMPGs have very large gas-mass fractions of $f_{\rm gas}\simeq 0.9-1.0$. Comparing our results with other H$α$ kinematics studies, we find that $v_{\rm rot}/σ_{0}$ decreases and $f_{\rm gas}$ increases with decreasing metallicity, decreasing stellar mass, and increasing specific star-formation rate. We also find that simulated high-$z$ ($z\sim 7$) forming galaxies have gas fractions and dynamics similar to the observed EMPGs. Our EMPG observations and the simulations suggest that primordial galaxies are gas-rich dispersion-dominated systems, which would be identified by the forthcoming James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) observations at $z\sim 7$.

Pretrained large language models (LLMs) are widely used in many sub-fields of natural language processing (NLP) and generally known as excellent few-shot learners with task-specific exemplars. Notably, chain of thought (CoT) prompting, a recent technique for eliciting complex multi-step reasoning through step-by-step answer examples, achieved the state-of-the-art performances in arithmetics and symbolic reasoning, difficult system-2 tasks that do not follow the standard scaling laws for LLMs. While these successes are often attributed to LLMs' ability for few-shot learning, we show that LLMs are decent zero-shot reasoners by simply adding "Let's think step by step" before each answer. Experimental results demonstrate that our Zero-shot-CoT, using the same single prompt template, significantly outperforms zero-shot LLM performances on diverse benchmark reasoning tasks including arithmetics (MultiArith, GSM8K, AQUA-RAT, SVAMP), symbolic reasoning (Last Letter, Coin Flip), and other logical reasoning tasks (Date Understanding, Tracking Shuffled Objects), without any hand-crafted few-shot examples, e.g. increasing the accuracy on MultiArith from 17.7% to 78.7% and GSM8K from 10.4% to 40.7% with large InstructGPT model (text-davinci-002), as well as similar magnitudes of improvements with another off-the-shelf large model, 540B parameter PaLM. The versatility of this single prompt across very diverse reasoning tasks hints at untapped and understudied fundamental zero-shot capabilities of LLMs, suggesting high-level, multi-task broad cognitive capabilities may be extracted by simple prompting. We hope our work not only serves as the minimal strongest zero-shot baseline for the challenging reasoning benchmarks, but also highlights the importance of carefully exploring and analyzing the enormous zero-shot knowledge hidden inside LLMs before crafting finetuning datasets or few-shot exemplars.

Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) has emerged as the state-of-the-art method for novel view generation of complex scenes, but is very slow during inference. Recently, there have been multiple works on speeding up NeRF inference, but the state of the art methods for real-time NeRF inference rely on caching the neural network output, which occupies several giga-bytes of disk space that limits their real-world applicability. As caching the neural network of original NeRF network is not feasible, Garbin et al. proposed "FastNeRF" which factorizes the problem into 2 sub-networks - one which depends only on the 3D coordinate of a sample point and one which depends only on the 2D camera viewing direction. Although this factorization enables them to reduce the cache size and perform inference at over 200 frames per second, the memory overhead is still substantial. In this work, we propose SqueezeNeRF, which is more than 60 times memory-efficient than the sparse cache of FastNeRF and is still able to render at more than 190 frames per second on a high spec GPU during inference.

Currently, $Y_\mathrm{P}$ is best determined by observations of metal-poor galaxies, while there are only a few known local extremely metal-poor ($<0.1 Z_\odot$) galaxies (EMPGs) having reliable He/H measurements with HeI$λ$10830 near-infrared (NIR) emission. Here we present deep Subaru NIR spectroscopy for 10 EMPGs. Combining the existing optical data, He/H values of 5 out of the 10 EMPGs are reliably derived by the Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm. Adding the existing 3 EMPGs and 51 moderately metal-poor ($0.1-0.4 Z_\odot$) galaxies with reliable He/H estimates, we obtain $Y_\mathrm{P}=0.2370^{+0.0034}_{-0.0033}$ by linear regression in the $\mathrm{(He/H)}-\mathrm{(O/H)}$ plane, where we increase the number of EMPGs from 3 to 8 anchoring He/H of the most metal-poor gas in galaxies. Although our $Y_\mathrm{P}$ measurement and previous measurements are consistent, our result is slightly ($\sim 1σ$) smaller due to our EMPGs. With our $Y_\mathrm{P}$ and the existing primordial deuterium $D_\mathrm{P}$ measurement, we constrain the effective number of neutrino species $N_\mathrm{eff}$ and the baryon-to-photon ratio $η$ showing $\gtrsim 1-2σ$ tensions with the Standard Model and Planck Collaboration et al. (2020). Motivated by the tensions, we allow the degeneracy parameter of electron-neutrino $ξ_e$ to vary as well as $N_\mathrm{eff}$ and $η$. We obtain $ξ_e = 0.05^{+0.03}_{-0.02}$, $N_\mathrm{eff}=3.11^{+0.34}_{-0.31}$, and $η\times10^{10}=6.08^{+0.06}_{-0.06}$ from the $Y_\mathrm{P}$ and $D_\mathrm{P}$ measurements with a prior of $η$ taken from Planck Collaboration et al. (2020). Our constraints suggest a lepton asymmetry and allow for a high value of $N_\mathrm{eff}$ within the $1σ$ level, which could mitigate the Hubble tension.

In recent advances of deep generative models, face reenactment -manipulating and controlling human face, including their head movement-has drawn much attention for its wide range of applicability. Despite its strong expressiveness, it is inevitable that the models fail to reconstruct or accurately generate unseen side of the face of a given single reference image. Most of existing methods alleviate this problem by learning appearances of human faces from large amount of data and generate realistic texture at inference time. Rather than completely relying on what generative models learn, we show that simple extension by using multiple reference images significantly improves generation quality. We show this by 1) conducting the reconstruction task on publicly available dataset, 2) conducting facial motion transfer on our original dataset which consists of multi-person's head movement video sequences, and 3) using a newly proposed evaluation metric to validate that our method achieves better quantitative results.

We present a new experimental method to generate quasi-perpendicular supercritical magnetized collisionless shocks. In our experiment, ambient nitrogen (N) plasma is at rest and well-magnetized, and it has uniform mass density. The plasma is pushed by laser-driven ablation aluminum (Al) plasma. Streaked optical pyrometry and spatially resolved laser collective Thomson scattering clarify structures of plasma density and temperatures, which are compared with one-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. It is indicated that just after the laser irradiation, the Al plasma is magnetized by a self-generated Biermann battery field, and the plasma slaps the incident N plasma. The compressed external field in the N plasma reflects N ions, leading to counter-streaming magnetized N flows. Namely we identify the edge of the reflected N ions. Such interacting plasmas form a magnetized collisionless shock.

A newly assembled multi-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrograph (MRTOF-MS) at RIKEN's RIBF facility became operational for the first time in spring 2020; further modifications and performance tests using stable ions were completed in early 2021. By using a pulsed-drift-tube technique to modify the ions' kinetic energy in a wide range, we directly characterize the dispersion function of the system for use in a new procedure for optimizing the voltages applied to the electrostatic mirrors. Thus far, a mass resolving power of $R_m > 1\,000\,000$ is reached within a total time-of-flight of only $12.5\,\mathrm{ms}$, making the spectrometer capable of studying short-lived nuclei possessing low-lying isomers. Detailed information about the setup and measurement procedure is reported, and an alternative in-MRTOF ion selection scheme to remove molecular contaminants in the absence of a dedicated deflection device is introduced. The setup underwent an initial on-line commissioning at the BigRIPS facility at the end of 2020, where more than 70 nuclear masses have been measured. A summary of the commissioning experiments and results from a test of mass accuracy will be presented.

Our observation has successfully demonstrated that three-dimensional spectroscopy with 8m-class telescopes is powerful enough to reveal the metallicity distribution in local EMPGs, providing precious information of the baryon cycle in local analogs of primordial galaxies in the early Universe.

Dust and gas in protoplanetary disks dissipate as central stars evolve. In order to estimate the dust dissipation timescales in the protoplanetary disks, we stacked the WISE 12, 22, and the AKARI 90 $μ$m survey images of known T Tauri stars and derived the average fluxes, well below the survey flux limit in the 90 $μ$m band. We classified 4,783 T Tauri stars into three age groups, which are young ($<$2 Myr), mid-age (2-6 Myr), and old ($>$6 Myr) groups, and stacked the WISE 12 and 22 and the AKARI 90 $μ$m images in each group. The photometry of the stacked image shows the flux decay timescales of 1.4$\pm$0.2, 1.38$\pm$0.05, and 1.4$^{+0.6}_{-0.5}$ Myr in the 12, 22, and 90 $μ$m bands, respectively. In optically thin disks with one-solar luminosity central stars, the 12 and 22 $μ$m fluxes are attributed to the emission from the intermediate ($\sim$ 1 au) region and the 90 $μ$m flux corresponds to that from the outer ($\sim$ 10 au) region in the disk. We hence conclude the dust dissipation timescale is $τ_{\rm med,dust}\sim$1.4 Myr in the intermediate disks and is $τ_{\rm outer, dust}=$1.4$^{+0.6}_{-0.5}$ Myr in the outer disks. The dust-dissipation time difference between the outer and intermediate disks is $Δτ_{\rm dust} = τ_{\rm outer, dust} -τ_{\rm med,dust}=0.0^{+0.6}_{-0.5}$ Myr, indicating that the dust in the intermediate and outer disks dissipates on almost the same timescale.

We present Keck/LRIS follow-up spectroscopy for 13 photometric candidates of extremely metal poor galaxies (EMPGs) selected by a machine-learning technique applied to the deep (~26 AB mag) optical and wide-area (~500 deg^2) Subaru imaging data in the EMPRESS survey. Nine out of the 13 candidates are EMPGs with an oxygen abundance (O/H) less than ~10% solar value (O/H)_sun, and four sources are contaminants of moderately metal-rich galaxies or no emission-line objects. Notably, two out of the nine EMPGs have extremely-low stellar masses and oxygen abundances of 5*10^4--7*10^5 M_sun and 2--3% (O/H)_sun, respectively. With a sample of five EMPGs with (Fe/O) measurements, two (three) of which are taken from this study (the literature), we confirm that two EMPGs with the lowest (O/H) ratios of ~2% (O/H)_sun show high (Fe/O) ratios of ~0.1, close to the solar abundance ratio. Comparing galaxy chemical enrichment models, we find that the two EMPGs cannot be explained by a scenario of metal-poor gas accretion/episodic star-formation history due to their low (N/O) ratios. We conclude that the two EMPGs can be reproduced by an inclusion of bright hypernovae and/or hypothetical pair-instability supernovae (SNe) preferentially produced in a metal-poor environment. This conclusion implies that primordial galaxies at z~10 could have a high abundance of Fe that is not originated from Type Ia SNe with delays, and that Fe may not serve as a cosmic clock for primordial galaxies.

The corrugated horn is a high performance feed often used in radio telescopes. There has been a growing demand for wideband optics and corrugated horns in millimeter and submillimeter-wave receivers. It improves the observation efficiency and allows us to observe important emission lines such as CO in multiple excited states simultaneously. However, in the millimeter/submillimeter band, it has been challenging to create a conical corrugated horn with a fractional bandwidth of ~60% because the wavelength is very short, making it difficult to make narrow corrugations. In this study, we designed a conical corrugated horn with good return loss, low cross-polarization, and symmetric beam pattern in the 210-375GHz band (56% fractional bandwidth) by optimizing the dimensions of the corrugations. The corrugated horn was installed on the Osaka 1.85-m mm-submm telescope with the matched frequency-independent optics, and simultaneous observations of 12CO, 13CO, and C18O (J = 2-1, 3-2) were successfully made. In this paper, we describe the new design of the corrugated horn and report the performance evaluation results including the optics.

We have developed a wideband receiver system for simultaneous observations in CO lines of J = 2-1 and J = 3-2 transitions using the Osaka 1.85-m mm-submm telescope. As a frequency separation system, we developed multiplexers that connect three types of diplexers, each consisting of branch-line couplers and high-pass filters. The radio frequency (RF) signal is eventually distributed into four frequency bands, each of which is fed to a superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) mixer. The RF signal from the horn is divided into two frequency bands by a wideband diplexer with a fractional bandwidth of 56%, and then each frequency band is further divided into two bands by each diplexer. The developed multiplexers were designed, fabricated, and characterized using a vector network analyzer. The measurement results showed good agreement with the simulation. The receiver noise temperature was measured by connecting the SIS-mixers, one of which has a wideband 4-21GHz intermediate frequency (IF) output. The receiver noise temperatures were measured to be ~70K in the 220GHz band, ~100K in the 230GHz band, 110-175K in the 330GHz band, and 150-250K in the 345GHz band. This receiver system has been installed on the 1.85-m telescope at the Nobeyama Radio Observatory. We succeeded in the simultaneous observations of six CO isotopologue lines with the transitions of J = 2-1 and J = 3-2 toward the Orion KL as well as the on-the-fly (OTF) mappings toward the Orion KL and W 51.

In non-centrosymmetric metals, spin-orbit coupling (SOC) induces momentum-dependent spin polarization at the Fermi surfaces. This is exemplified by the valley-contrasting spin polarization in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) with in-plane inversion asymmetry. However, the valley configuration of massive Dirac fermions in TMDCs is fixed by the graphene-like structure, which limits the variety of spin-valley coupling. Here, we show that the layered polar metal BaMn$X_2$ ($X =$Bi, Sb) hosts tunable spin-valley-coupled Dirac fermions, which originate from the distorted $X$ square net with in-plane lattice polarization. We found that in spite of the larger SOC, BaMnBi$_2$ has approximately one-tenth the lattice distortion of BaMnSb$_2$, from which a different configuration of spin-polarized Dirac valleys is theoretically predicted. This was experimentally observed as a clear difference in the Shubnikov-de Haas oscillation at high fields between the two materials. The chemically tunable spin-valley coupling in BaMn$X_2$ makes it a promising material for various spin-valleytronic devices.

High-strain-rate shear tests were conducted on a three-layered bonded test piece comprising a central aluminum layer with PMMA resin layers bonded on both sides. Upon calculating the displacement field and the strain field using digital image correlation (DIC), the crack tip was located, and the fracture toughness was evaluated at the Aluminum/PMMA bonding interface. As a result of the DIC, it was possible to determine the process by which 1) the elastic stress wave propagated to the aluminum section, 2) the wave was transmitted to the PMMA section, and 3) the crack developed at the interface. The tip of the crack was identified using displacement distributions obtained using DIC. The fracture toughness of the interface was evaluated using the stress intensity factor. The true interfacial stress was calculated by correcting the strain value at the interface obtained using DIC. The distribution of the stress suggested that mode II fracture appears in the present test method when the crack is sufficiently shorter than the length of the bonding interface, and mode I and mode II fractures appear when the crack is longer in comparison. Although the value of the stress intensity factor was disturbed by the error of the DIC analysis, it was confirmed that the obtained values were similar regardless of the difference in the crack length, upon averaging the stress intensity factor values from the crack tips to the long-range with a ratio of 1 to the subset in DIC. As the obtained stress intensity factor value was similar to the values calculated in the related literature, it can be concluded that the method proposed in this study yields a reasonable stress intensity factor.

In order to better understand the variation mechanism of ozone abundance in the middle atmosphere, the simultaneous monitoring of ozone and other minor molecular species, which are related to ozone depletion, is the most fundamental and critical method. A waveguide-type multiplexer was developed for the expansion of the observation frequency range of a millimeter-wave spectroradiometer, for the simultaneous observation of multiple molecular spectral lines. The proposed multiplexer contains a cascaded four-stage sideband-separating filter circuit. The waveguide circuit was designed based on electromagnetic analysis, and the pass frequency bands of Stages 1-4 were 243-251 GHz, 227-235 GHz, 197-205 GHz, and 181-189 GHz. The insertion and return losses of the multiplexer were measured using vector network analyzers, each observation band was well-defined, and the bandwidths were appropriately specified. Moreover, the receiver noise temperature and the image rejection ratio (IRR) using the superconducting mixer at 4 K were measured. As a result, the increase in receiver noise due to the multiplexer compared with that of only the mixer can be attributed to the transmission loss of the waveguide circuit in the multiplexer. The IRRs were higher than 25 dB at the center of each observation band. This indicates that a high and stable IRR performance can be achieved by the waveguide-type multiplexer for the separation of sideband signals.

Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and wave propagation in engineering structures can cause severe damage to piping systems or fluid machines, inducing serious accidents. In these phenomena, the mechanism of structural damage depends on the wave propagation across the fluid-solid interface. Previous studies reported that disagreements between the induced pressure value on the solid-fluid movable interface and the value predicted by the classical one-dimensional theory arose from the effects of two-dimensional wave propagation. To address this problem, in this study, a two-dimensional axisymmetric simulation of wave propagation across the solid-fluid interface with FSI was conducted. The simulation was performed using ANSYS Autodyn with a Lagrangian solver for solids and Eulerian solver for water. The results showed that radial wave propagation caused by the dynamic effect of the tube and water's inertia affected the peak pressure on the solid-fluid interface. The peak pressure was attenuated near the tube wall because of the inertial effect of the tube and fluid expansion. By calculating the mean pressure and axial stress to compare the simulated peak pressure with that from one-dimensional acoustic theory, it was indicated that the transition region for transmitted pressure was located immediately after the solid-fluid interface. In this region, the transmitted peak pressure may exceed the value predicted by one-dimensional acoustic theory. The transition region was oriented in the axial direction from the interface. In addition, prediction of the transmitted peak pressure with one-dimensional acoustic theory was suggested via normal wave speed in the unconfined fluid from a safety engineering perspective, although the circumferential stress generated in the tube enclosing fluid can be sufficiently accurately predicted using the same theory with the Korteweg speed.

Weak emission lines such as [FeIII]4658 and HeII4686 are detected in very deep optical spectra of the EMPGs taken with 8m-class telescopes including Keck and Subaru (Kojima et al. 2019, Izotov et al. 2018), enabling us to derive element abundance ratios with photoionization models. We find that neon- and argon-to-oxygen ratios are comparable to those of known local dwarf galaxies, and that the nitrogen-to-oxygen abundance ratios (N/O) are lower than 20% (N/O)_sun consistent with the low oxygen abundance. However, the iron-to-oxygen abundance ratios (Fe/O) of the EMPGs are generally high; the EMPGs with the 2%-solar oxygen abundance show high Fe/O ratios of ~90-140% (Fe/O)_sun, which are unlikely explained by suggested scenarios of Type Ia supernova iron productions, iron's dust depletion, and metal-poor gas inflow onto previously metal-riched galaxies with solar abundances. Moreover, these EMPGs have very high HeII4686/H$β$ ratios of ~1/40, which are not reproduced by existing models of high-mass X-ray binaries whose progenitor stellar masses are less than 120 M_sun. Comparing stellar-nucleosynthesis and photoionization models with a comprehensive sample of EMPGs identified by this and previous EMPG studies, we propose that both the high Fe/O ratios and the high HeII4686/H$β$ ratios are explained by the past existence of super massive ($>$300 M_sun) stars, which may evolve into intermediate-mass black holes ($\gtrsim$100 M_sun).

We present the morphology and stellar population of 27 extremely metal poor galaxies (EMPGs) at $z\sim0$ with metallicities of 0.01--0.1 Z$_{\odot}$. We conduct multi-component surface brightness (SB) profile fitting for the deep Subaru/HSC $i$-band images of the EMPGs with the {\sc Galfit} software, carefully removing the SB contributions of tails. We find that the EMPGs with a median stellar mass of $\log(M_{*}/{\rm M}_{\odot})=6.0$ have a median S{é}rsic index of $n=1.1$ and a median effective radius of $r_{\rm e}=200$ pc, suggesting that typical EMPGs have very compact disk. We compare the EMPGs with $z\sim6$ galaxies and local galaxies on the size-mass ($r_{\rm e}$-$M_*$) diagram, and identify that the majority of the EMPGs have a $r_{\rm e}$-$M_*$ relation similar to $z\sim0$ star-forming galaxies rather than $z\sim6$ galaxies. Not every EMPG is a local analog of high-$z$ young galaxies in the $r_{\rm e}$-$M_*$ relation. A spectrum of one pair of EMPG and tail, so far available, indicates that the tail is dynamically related to the EMPG with a median velocity difference of $ΔV=101\pm32$ km s$^{-1}$. This moderately-large $ΔV$ cannot be explained by the dynamics of the tail, but likely by the infall on the tail. For the first time, we may identify the metal-poor star-forming system just now infalling into the tail.

Unconventional features of relativistic Dirac/Weyl quasi-particles in topological materials are most evidently manifested in the 2D quantum Hall effect (QHE), whose variety is further enriched by their spin and/or valley polarization. Although its extension to three dimensions has been long-sought and inspired theoretical proposals, material candidates have been lacking. Here we have discovered valley-contrasting spin-polarized Dirac fermions in a multilayer form in bulk antiferromagnet BaMnSb$_2$, where the out-of-plane Zeeman-type spin splitting is induced by the in-plane inversion symmetry breaking and spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in the distorted Sb square net. Furthermore, we have observed well-defined quantized Hall plateaus together with vanishing interlayer conductivity at low temperatures as a hallmark of the half-integer QHE in a bulk form. The Hall conductance of each layer is found to be nearly quantized to $2(N+1/2)e^2/h$ with $N$ being the Landau index, which is consistent with two spin-polarized Dirac valleys protected by the strong spin-valley coupling.

We present deep rest-frame UV spectroscopic observations using the Gran Telescopio Canarias of six gravitationally lensed Lya emitters (LAEs) at $2.36<z<2.82$ selected from the BELLS GALLERY survey. By taking the magnifications into account, we show that LAEs can be as luminous as L(Lya) = 30x10$^{42}$ erg s-1 and M(UV) = -23 (AB) without invoking an AGN component, in contrast with previous findings. We measure Lya rest-frame equivalent widths, EW(Lya), ranging from 16Åto 50Åand Lya escape fractions, fesc(Lya), from 10% to 40%. Large EW(Lya) and fesc(Lya) are found predominantly in LAEs showing weak low-ionization ISM absorption (EW < 1Å) and narrow Lya profiles (< 300 km s-1 FWHM) with their peak close (< 80 km s-1) to their systemic redshifts, suggestive of less scatter from low HI column densities that favours the escape of Lya photons. We infer stellar metallicities of Z/Zsun ~ 0.2 in almost all LAEs by comparing the P-Cygni profiles of the wind lines NV1240Åand CIV1549Åwith those from stellar synthesis models. We also find a trend between M(UV) and the velocity offset of ISM absorption lines, such as the most luminous LAEs experience stronger outflows. The most luminous LAEs show star formation rates up to 180 Msun yr-1, yet they appear relatively blue ($β$(UV) ~ -1.8 to -2.0) showing evidence of little dust attenuation (E(B-V) = 0.10-0.14). These luminous LAEs may be particular cases of young starburst galaxies that have had no time to form large amounts of dust. If so, they are ideal laboratories to study the early phase of massive star formation, stellar and dust mass growth, and chemical enrichment histories of starburst galaxies at high-z.

We obtained new mass ratios for 7 objects using growing superhumps (stage A). ASASSN-17gf is an EI Psc-type object below the period minimum. CRTS J080941.3+171528 and DDE 51 are objects in the period gap and both showed long-lasting phase of stage A superhumps. We also summarized the recent advances in understanding of SU UMa-type and WZ Sge-type dwarf novae.

We present our new ALMA observations targeting [OIII]88um, [CII]158um, [NII]122um, and dust continuum emission for three Lyman break galaxies at z=6.0293-6.2037 identified in the Subaru/Hyper Suprime-Cam survey. We clearly detect [OIII] and [CII] lines from all of the galaxies at 4.3-11.8sigma levels, and identify multi-band dust continuum emission in two of the three galaxies, allowing us to estimate infrared luminosities and dust temperatures simultaneously. In conjunction with previous ALMA observations for six galaxies at z>6, we confirm that all the nine z=6-9 galaxies have high [OIII]/[CII] ratios of L[OIII]/L[CII]~3-20, ~10 times higher than z~0 galaxies. We also find a positive correlation between the [OIII]/[CII] ratio and the Lya equivalent width (EW) at the ~90% confidence level. We carefully investigate physical origins of the high [OIII]/[CII] ratios at z=6-9 using Cloudy, and find that high density of the interstellar medium, low C/O abundance ratio, and the cosmic microwave background attenuation are responsible to only a part of the z=6-9 galaxies. Instead, the observed high [OIII]/[CII] ratios are explained by 10-100 times higher ionization parameters or low photodissociation region (PDR) covering fractions of 0-10%, both of which are consistent with our [NII] observations. The latter scenario can be reproduced with a density bounded nebula with PDR deficit, which would enhance the Lya, Lyman continuum, and C+ ionizing photons escape from galaxies, consistent with the [OIII]/[CII]-Lya EW correlation we find.

We have initiated a new survey for local extremely metal-poor galaxies (EMPGs) with Subaru/Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) large-area (~500 deg^2) optical images reaching a 5 sigma limit of ~26 magnitude, about 100 times deeper than the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). To select Z/Z_sun<0.1 EMPGs from ~40 million sources detected in the Subaru images, we first develop a machine-learning (ML) classifier based on a deep neural network algorithm with a training data set consisting of optical photometry of galaxy, star, and QSO models. We test our ML classifier with SDSS objects having spectroscopic metallicity measurements, and confirm that our ML classifier accomplishes 86%-completeness and 46%-purity EMPG classifications with photometric data. Applying our ML classifier to the photometric data of the Subaru sources as well as faint SDSS objects with no spectroscopic data, we obtain 27 and 86 EMPG candidates from the Subaru and SDSS photometric data, respectively. We conduct optical follow-up spectroscopy for 10 out of our EMPG candidates with Magellan/LDSS-3+MagE, Keck/DEIMOS, and Subaru/FOCAS, and find that the 10 EMPG candidates are star-forming galaxies at z=0.007-0.03 with large H_beta equivalent widths of 104-265 A, stellar masses of log(M*/M_sun)=5.0-7.1, and high specific star-formation rates of ~300 Gyr^{-1}, which are similar to those of early galaxies at z>6 reported recently. We spectroscopically confirm that 3 out of 10 candidates are truly EMPGs with Z/Z_sun<0.1, one of which is HSC J1631+4426, the most metal-poor galaxy with Z/Z_sun=0.016 reported ever.

MAMMOTH-1 nebula is an enormous Ly$α$ nebula (ELAN), hosted by a type-II quasar dubbed MAMMOTH1-QSO, that extends over $1\ h^{-1}$ cMpc with not fully clear physical origin. Here we investigate the HI-gas distribution around MAMMOTH1-QSO with the ELAN and three neighbouring type-I quasars, making the IGM HI tomography map with a spatial resolution of $2.6\ h^{-1}$ cMpc. Our HI tomography map is reconstructed with HI Ly$α$ forest absorption of bright background objects at $z=2.4-2.9$: one eBOSS quasar and 16 Keck/LRIS galaxy spectra. We estimate the radial profile of HI flux overdensity for MAMMOTH1-QSO, and find that MAMMOTH1-QSO resides in a volume with significantly weak HI absorption. This suggests that MAMMOTH1-QSO has a proximity zone where quasar illuminates and photo-ionizes the surrounding HI gas and suppresses HI absorption, and that the ELAN is probably a photo-ionized cloud embedded in the cosmic web. The HI radial profile of MAMMOTH1-QSO is very similar to those of three neighbouring type-I quasars at $z=2.3$, which is compatible with the AGN unification model. We compare the distributions of the HI absorption and star-forming galaxies in our survey volume, and identify a spatial offset between density peaks of star-forming galaxies and HI gas. This segregation may suggest anisotropic UV background radiation created by star-forming galaxy density fluctuations.

L10 ordered magnetic alloys such as FePt, FePd, CoPt and FeNi are well known for their large magnetocrystalline anisotropy. Among these, L10-FeNi alloy is economically viable material for magnetic recording media because it does not contain rare earth and noble elements. In this work, L10-FeNi films with three different strengths of anisotropy were fabricated by varying the deposition process in molecular beam epitaxy system. We have investigated the magnetization reversal along with domain imaging via magneto optic Kerr effect based microscope. It is found that in all three samples, the magnetization reversal is happening via domain wall motion. Further ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectroscopy was performed to evaluate the damping constant and magnetic anisotropy. It was observed that the FeNi sample with moderate strength of anisotropy exhibits low value of damping constant ~ 4.9X10^-3. In addition to this, it was found that the films possess a mixture of cubic and uniaxial anisotropies.

A dual-polarization balanced superconductor-insulator-superconductor mixer operating at 2 mm wavelength is realized in form of a monolithic planar integrated circuit. Planar orthomode transducers and LO couplers are enabled by using silicon membranes that are locally formed on the silicon-on-insulator substrate. The performance of the balanced mixer is experimentally investigated. Over the entire RF band (125-163 GHz), the balanced mixer shows an LO noise rejection ratio about 15 dB, an overall receiver noise about 40 K, and a cross-polarization <-20 dB. The demonstrated compactness and the performance of the integrated circuit indicate that this approach is feasible in developing heterodyne focal plane arrays.

We present very faint dropout galaxies at z~6-9 with a stellar mass M* down to M*~10^6Mo that are found in deep optical/near-infrared (NIR) images of the full data sets of the Hubble Frontier Fields (HFF) program in conjunction with deep ground-based and Spitzer images and gravitational lensing magnification effects. We investigate stellar populations of the HFF dropout galaxies with the optical/NIR photometry and BEAGLE models made of self-consistent stellar population synthesis and photoionization models, carefully including strong nebular emission impacting on the photometry. We identify 357 galaxies with M*~10^6-10^9Mo, and find that a stellar mass to UV luminosity L_UV ratio M*/L_UV is nearly constant at M*~10^6-10^9Mo. Our best-estimate M*/L_UV function is comparable to a model of star-formation duration time of 100 Myr, but 2-7 times higher than the one of 10 Myr assumed in a previous study (at the 5sigma level) that would probably underestimate M* of faint galaxies. We derive the galaxy stellar mass functions (GSMFs) at z~6-9 that agree with those obtained by previous studies with no M*/L_UV assumptions at M*>~10^8Mo, and that extends to M*~10^6Mo. Estimating the stellar mass densities rho* with the GSMFs, we find that rho* smoothly increases from log(rho*/[Mo Mpc^(-3)])=5.91 +0.75/-0.65 at z~9 to 6.21 +0.39/-0.37 at z~6-7, which is consistent with the one estimated from star-formation rate density measurements. In conjunction with the estimates of the galaxy effective radii R_e on the source plane, we have pinpointed two objects with low stellar masses (M*<=10^7Mo) and very compact morphologies (R_e<=40 physical pc) that are comparable with those of globular clusters (GCs) in the Milky Way today. These objects are candidates of star clusters that should be a part or a dominant component of high-redshift low-mass galaxy, some of which may be related to GCs today.
