In this paper we obtain a verifiable sufficient condition for a polyhedral multifunction to be Lipschitz continuous on its domain. We apply this sufficient condition to establish the Lipschitz continuity of the solution multifunction for an extended $\ell_1$ regularization problem with respect to the regularization parameter and the observation parameter under the assumption that the data matrix is of full row rank. In doing so, we show that the solution multifunction is a polyhedral one by expressing its graph as the union of the polyhedral cones constructed by the index sets defined by nonempty faces of the feasible set of an extended dual $\ell_1$ regularization problem. We demonstrate that the domain of the solution multifunction is partitioned as the union of the projections of the above polyhedral cones onto the parameters space and that the graph of the restriction of the multifunction on each of these projections is convex. In comparing with the existing result of the local Lipschitz continuity of the Lasso problem in the literature where certain linear independence condition was assumed, our condition (i.e., full row rank of data matrix) is very weak and our result (i.e., Lipschitz continuity on the domain) is much more stronger. As corollaries of the Lipschitz continuity of the solution multifunction, we show that the single-valuedness and linearity (or piecewise linearity) of the solution multifunction on a particular polyhedral set of the domain are equivalent to certain linear independence conditions of the corresponding columns of the data matrix proposed in the literature.

Numerous techniques have been meticulously designed to achieve optimal architectures for convolutional neural networks (CNNs), yet a comparable focus on vision transformers (ViTs) has been somewhat lacking. Despite the remarkable success of ViTs in various vision tasks, their heavyweight nature presents challenges of computational costs. In this paper, we leverage the Gaussian process to systematically explore the nonlinear and uncertain relationship between performance and global architecture factors of MobileViT, such as resolution, width, and depth including the depth of in-verted residual blocks and the depth of ViT blocks, and joint factors including resolution-depth and resolution-width. We present design principles twisting magic 4D cube of the global architecture factors that minimize model sizes and computational costs with higher model accuracy. We introduce a formula for downsizing architectures by iteratively deriving smaller MobileViT V2, all while adhering to a specified constraint of multiply-accumulate operations (MACs). Experiment results show that our formula significantly outperforms CNNs and mobile ViTs across diversified datasets

Seafloor anchor nodes, which form a geodetic network, are designed to provide surface and underwater users with positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) services. Due to the non-uniform distribution of underwater sound speed, accurate positioning of underwater anchor nodes is a challenge work. Traditional anchor node positioning typically uses cross or circular shapes, however, how to optimize the deployment of reference nodes for positioning underwater anchor nodes considering the variability of sound speed has not yet been studied. This paper focuses on the optimal reference nodes deployment strategies for time--of--arrival (TOA) localization in the three-dimensional (3D) underwater space. We adopt the criterion that minimizing the trace of the inverse Fisher information matrix (FIM) to determine optimal reference nodes deployment with Gaussian measurement noise, which is positive related to the signal propagation path. A comprehensive analysis of optimal reference-target geometries is provided in the general circumstance with no restriction on the number of reference nodes, elevation angle and reference-target range. A new semi-closed form solution is found to detemine the optimal geometries. To demonstrate the findings in this paper, we conducted both simulations and sea trials on underwater anchor node positioning. Both the simulation and experiment results are consistent with theoretical analysis.

Binary stars are as frequency as single stars in the Universe, and at least 70\% of the massive stars located in our Galaxy belong to a binary system. For the first time we produce the gravitational waveforms for the extreme mass ratio inspiral systems (EMRIs) of binary stars moving around central supermassive black hole (SBH). We calculate the orbits of such systems via the Hamilton-Jacobi approach. To improve accuracy we adopt the quadrupole-octupole expression of gravitational wave (GW) and consider the contribution of radiation reaction. Compared to the waveforms of single star, double or multiple spikes emerge in the waveforms of binary stars. We calculate the mismatch of the EMRI waveforms of binary stars and those of single stars, and find the mismatch increases as the binary internal semi-latus rectum $\tilde{p}$ decreases. According to the distinguishable criterion of two signals, it's inferred that the two types of waveforms are distinguishable for small enough $\tilde{p}$. Further, we demonstrate that the most favourable position to distinguish the waveforms of EMRIs of single star from the waveforms of EMRIs of binary stars is that revolutions of the binary stars and the central SBH takes the same direction, i.e., the rotation axis of the binary is parallel to that of the central SBH.

The integration of sensing and communication (ISAC) emerges as a cornerstone technology for the forth upcoming sixth generation era, seamlessly incorporating sensing functionality into wireless networks as a native capability. The main challenges in efficient ISAC are constituted by its limited sensing and communication coverage, as well as severe inter-cell interference. Network-level ISAC relying on multi-cell cooperation is capable of effectively expanding both the sensing and communication (S&C) coverage and of providing extra degrees of freedom (DoF) for realizing increased integration gains between S&C. In this work, we provide new considerations for ISAC networks, including new metrics, the optimization of the DoF, cooperation regimes, and highlight new S&C tradeoffs. Then, we discuss a suite of cooperative S&C architectures both at the task, as well as data, and signal levels. Furthermore, the interplay between S&C at the network level is investigated and promising research directions are outlined.

In this letter, we study the potential of shifting the integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) trade-off with FAS. We propose the model for FAS-enabled ISAC and jointly optimize the transmit beamforming and port selection of FAS. In particular, we aim to minimize the transmit power, while satisfying both communication and sensing requirements. An efficient iterative algorithm based on sparse optimization, convex approximation, and a penalty approach is developed. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can attain 33% reductions in transmit power with guaranteed sensing and communication performance, showing the great potential of the fluid antenna for striking a flexible tradeoff between sensing and communication in ISAC systems.

The integration of intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) into over-the-air computation (AirComp) is an effective solution for reducing the computational mean squared error (MSE) via its high passive beamforming gain. Prior works on IRS aided AirComp generally rely on the full instantaneous channel state information (I-CSI), which is not applicable to large-scale systems due to its heavy signalling overhead. To address this issue, we propose a novel multi-timescale transmission protocol. In particular, the receive beamforming at the access point (AP) is pre-determined based on the static angle information and the IRS phase-shifts are optimized relying on the long-term statistical CSI. With the obtained AP receive beamforming and IRS phase-shifts, the effective low-dimensional I-CSI is exploited to determine devices' transmit power in each coherence block, thus substantially reducing the signalling overhead. Theoretical analysis unveils that the achievable MSE scales on the order of ${\cal O}\left( {K/\left( {{N^2}M} \right)} \right)$, where $M$, $N$, and $K$ are the number of AP antennas, IRS elements, and devices, respectively. We also prove that the channel-inversion power control is asymptotically optimal for large $N$, which reveals that the full power transmission policy is not needed for lowering the power consumption of energy-limited devices.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have received plenty of attention due to their high flexibility and enhanced communication ability, nonetheless, the limited onboard energy restricts UAVs' application on persistent data collection missions in large areas. In this paper, we propose a rechargeable UAV-assisted periodic data collection scheme, where a UAV is dispatched to periodically collect data from sensor nodes (SNs) in the mission area and charged by a wireless charging platform. Specifically, the periodic data collection completion time is minimized by optimizing the UAV trajectory to reach the optimal balance among the collection time, flight time, and recharging time. The formulated problem is non-convex and difficult to solve directly. To tackle this problem, we divide the main problem into two sub-problems and address them by leveraging successive convex approximation (SCA), bisection search, and heuristic methods. Then, we propose a periodic trajectory optimization algorithm to iteratively solve the two sub-problems to minimize the completion time. Furthermore, to deal with the dynamics of SNs, we propose a low-complexity trajectory adjustment strategy, where the trajectory can be maintained or adjusted locally at the SNs change, which significantly mitigates the computation cost of re-optimization. The simulation results show the superiority and robustness of the proposed scheme and the completion time is on average 39% and 33% lower than the two benchmarks, respectively.

Human pose estimation is a fundamental and challenging task in computer vision. Larger-scale and more accurate keypoint annotations, while helpful for improving the accuracy of supervised pose estimation, are often expensive and difficult to obtain. Semi-supervised pose estimation tries to leverage a large amount of unlabeled data to improve model performance, which can alleviate the problem of insufficient labeled samples. The latest semi-supervised learning usually adopts a strong and weak data augmented teacher-student learning framework to deal with the challenge of "Human postural diversity and its long-tailed distribution". Appropriate data augmentation method is one of the key factors affecting the accuracy and generalization of semi-supervised models. Aiming at the problem that the difference of sample learning is not considered in the fixed keypoint masking augmentation method, this paper proposes an adaptive keypoint masking method, which can fully mine the information in the samples and obtain better estimation performance. In order to further improve the generalization and robustness of the model, this paper proposes a dual-branch data augmentation scheme, which can perform Mixup on samples and features on the basis of adaptive keypoint masking. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified on COCO and MPII, outperforming the state-of-the-art semi-supervised pose estimation by 5.2% and 0.3%, respectively.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) networks are investigated with the objective of effectively balancing the sensing and communication (S&C) performance at the network level. Through the simultaneous utilization of multi-point (CoMP) coordinated joint transmission and distributed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar techniques, we propose an innovative networked ISAC scheme, where multiple transceivers are employed for collaboratively enhancing the S&C services. Then, the potent tool of stochastic geometry is exploited for characterizing the S&C performance, which allows us to illuminate the key cooperative dependencies in the ISAC network and optimize salient network-level parameters. Remarkably, the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) expression of the localization accuracy derived unveils a significant finding: Deploying N ISAC transceivers yields an enhanced average cooperative sensing performance across the entire network, in accordance with the ln^2N scaling law. Crucially, this scaling law is less pronounced in comparison to the performance enhancement of N^2 achieved when the transceivers are equidistant from the target, which is primarily due to the substantial path loss from the distant base stations (BSs) and leads to reduced contributions to sensing performance gain. Moreover, we derive a tight expression of the communication rate, and present a low-complexity algorithm to determine the optimal cooperative cluster size. Based on our expression derived for the S&C performance, we formulate the optimization problem of maximizing the network performance in terms of two joint S&C metrics. To this end, we jointly optimize the cooperative BS cluster sizes and the transmit power to strike a flexible tradeoff between the S&C performance.

Exploration of new dielectrics with large capacitive coupling is an essential topic in modern electronics when conventional dielectrics suffer from the leakage issue near breakdown limit. To address this looming challenge, we demonstrate that rare-earth-metal fluorides with extremely-low ion migration barriers can generally exhibit an excellent capacitive coupling over 20 $μ$F cm$^{-2}$ (with an equivalent oxide thickness of ~0.15 nm and a large effective dielectric constant near 30) and great compatibility with scalable device manufacturing processes. Such static dielectric capability of superionic fluorides is exemplified by MoS$_2$ transistors exhibiting high on/off current ratios over 10$^8$, ultralow subthreshold swing of 65 mV dec$^{-1}$, and ultralow leakage current density of ~10$^{-6}$ A cm$^{-2}$. Therefore, the fluoride-gated logic inverters can achieve significantly higher static voltage gain values, surpassing ~167, compared to conventional dielectric. Furthermore, the application of fluoride gating enables the demonstration of NAND, NOR, AND, and OR logic circuits with low static energy consumption. Notably, the superconductor-to-insulator transition at the clean-limit Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ can also be realized through fluoride gating. Our findings highlight fluoride dielectrics as a pioneering platform for advanced electronics applications and for tailoring emergent electronic states in condensed matters.

By exploiting the potential joint sparsity of the delay-Doppler-angle (DDA) domain channel, the channel estimation problem is transformed into a sparse recovery problem. To solve it, we first apply the spike and slab prior model to iteratively estimate the support set of the channel matrix, and a higher-accuracy parameter update rule relying on the identified support set is introduced into the iteration. Then the specific values of the channel elements corresponding to the support set are estimated by the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) method. Integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) enabled by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is a promising technology to facilitate target tracking applications. In contrast to conventional UAV-based ISAC system designs that mainly focus on estimating the target position, the target velocity estimation also needs to be considered due to its crucial impacts on link maintenance and real-time response, which requires new designs on resource allocation and tracking scheme. In this paper, we propose an extended Kalman filtering-based tracking scheme for a UAV-enabled ISAC system where a UAV tracks a moving object and also communicates with a device attached to the object. Specifically, a weighted sum of predicted posterior Cramér-Rao bound (PCRB) for object relative position and velocity estimation is minimized by optimizing the UAV trajectory, where an efficient solution is obtained based on the successive convex approximation method. Furthermore, under a special case with the measurement mean square error (MSE), the optimal relative motion state is obtained and proved to keep a fixed elevation angle and zero relative velocity. Numerical results validate that the obtained solution to the predicted PCRB minimization can be approximated by the optimal relative motion state when predicted measurement MSE dominates the predicted PCRBs, as well as the effectiveness of the proposed tracking scheme. Moreover, three interesting trade-offs on system performance resulted from the fixed elevation angle are illustrated.

Vehicle localization is essential for intelligent transportation. However, achieving low-latency vehicle localization without sacrificing precision is challenging. In this paper, we propose a road-aware localization mechanism in heterogeneous networks (HetNet), where distinct features of HetNet signals are extracted for two-spatial-scale position mapping, enabling low-latency positioning with high precision. Specifically, we propose a sequence segmentation method to extract the low-dimensional positioning space on two spatial scales. To represent roads and sub-segments according to HetNet signals, we propose a salient feature extraction method to eliminate redundant features and retain distinct features, thereby reducing feature-matching complexity and improving representation accuracy. Based on the extracted salient features, a two-spatial-scale localization algorithm is designed through salient feature matching, which can achieve low-latency road-aware localization. The Hohenberg-Mermin-Wagner theorem states that a two-dimensional system cannot spontaneously break a continuous symmetry at finite temperature. This is supported by the observation of layer-dependent superconductivity in the quasi-two-dimensional superconductor NbSe2, in which the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) is reduced by about 60% in the monolayer limit. However, for the extremely anisotropic copper-based high-Tc superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ (Bi-2212), the Tc of the monolayer is almost identical to that of its bulk counterpart. To clarify the effect of dimensionality on superconductivity, here we successfully fabricate ultrathin flakes of CsCa2Fe4As4F2, a highly anisotropic iron-based high-Tc superconductor, down to monolayer. The monolayer flake exhibits the highest Tc of 24 K (after tuning to the optimal doping by ionic liquid gating), which is about 20% lower than that of the bulk crystal. We also fabricate ultrathin flakes of CaKFe4As4, another iron-based superconductor with much smaller anisotropy. The Tc of the 3-layer flake decreases by 46%, showing a more pronounced dimensional effect than that of CsCa2Fe4As4F2. By carefully examining their anisotropy and the c-axis coherence length, we reveal the general trend and empirical law of the layer-dependent superconductivity in these quasi-two-dimensional superconductors. From this, the Tc of a new monolayer superconductor can be extrapolated.

In this work, we study integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) networks with the aim of effectively balancing sensing and communication (S&C) performance at the network level. Focusing on monostatic sensing, the tool of stochastic geometry is exploited to capture the S&C performance, which facilitates us to illuminate key cooperative dependencies in the ISAC network and optimize key network-level parameters. Based on the derived tractable expression of area spectral efficiency (ASE), we formulate the optimization problem to maximize the network performance from the view point of two joint S&C metrics. Towards this end, we further jointly optimize the cooperative BS cluster sizes for S&C and the serving/probing numbers of users/targets to achieve a flexible tradeoff between S&C at the network level. It is verified that interference nulling can effectively improve the average data rate and radar information rate. Surprisingly, the optimal communication tradeoff for the case of the ASE maximization tends to employ all spacial resources towards multiplexing and diversity gain, without interference nulling. By contrast, for the sensing objectives, resource allocation tends to eliminate certain interference especially when the antenna resources are sufficient, because the inter-cell interference becomes a more dominant factor affecting sensing performance. Furthermore, we prove that the ratio of the optimal number of users and the number of transmit antennas is a constant value when the communication performance is optimal. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed cooperative ISAC scheme achieves a substantial gain in S&C performance at the network level.

The primary challenges faced by highly efficient ISAC include limited sensing and communication (S&C) coverage, constrained integration gain between S&C under weak channel correlations, and unknown performance boundary. Intelligent reflecting/refracting surfaces (IRSs) can effectively expand S&C coverage and control the degree of freedom of channels between the transmitters and receivers, thereby realizing increasing integration gains. In this work, we first delve into the fundamental characteristics of IRS-empowered ISAC and innovative IRS-assisted sensing architectures. Then, we discuss various objectives for IRS channel control and deployment optimization in ISAC systems. Furthermore, the interplay between S&C in different deployment strategies is investigated and some promising directions for IRS enhanced ISAC are outlined.

With the emerging environment-aware applications, ubiquitous sensing is expected to play a key role in future networks. In this paper, we study a 3-dimensional (3D) multi-target localization system where multiple intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) are applied to create virtual line-of-sight (LoS) links that bypass the base station (BS) and targets. To fully unveil the fundamental limit of IRS for sensing, we first study a single-target-single-IRS case and propose a novel \textit{two-stage localization protocol} by controlling the on/off state of IRS. To be specific, in the IRS-off stage, we derive the Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) of the azimuth/elevation direction-of-arrival (DoA) of the BS-target link and design a DoA estimator based on the MUSIC algorithm. In the IRS-on stage, the CRB of the azimuth/elevation DoA of the IRS-target link is derived and a simple DoA estimator based on the on-grid IRS beam scanning method is proposed. Particularly, the impact of echo signals reflected by IRS from different paths on sensing performance is analyzed. Moreover, we prove that the single-beam of the IRS is not capable of sensing, but it can be achieved with \textit{multi-beam}. Based on the two obtained DoAs, the 3D single-target location is constructed. We then extend to the multi-target-multi-IRS case and propose an \textit{IRS-adaptive sensing protocol} by controlling the on/off state of multiple IRSs, and a multi-target localization algorithm is developed. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our scheme and show that sub-meter-level positioning accuracy can be achieved.

Energy storage systems (ESS) are pivotal component in the energy market, serving as both energy suppliers and consumers. ESS operators can reap benefits from energy arbitrage by optimizing operations of storage equipment. To further enhance ESS flexibility within the energy market and improve renewable energy utilization, a heterogeneous photovoltaic-ESS (PV-ESS) is proposed, which leverages the unique characteristics of battery energy storage (BES) and hydrogen energy storage (HES). For scheduling tasks of the heterogeneous PV-ESS, cost description plays a crucial role in guiding operator's strategies to maximize benefits. We develop a comprehensive cost function that takes into account degradation, capital, and operation/maintenance costs to reflect real-world scenarios. Moreover, while numerous methods excel in optimizing ESS energy arbitrage, they often rely on black-box models with opaque decision-making processes, limiting practical applicability. To overcome this limitation and enable transparent scheduling strategies, a prototype-based policy network with inherent interpretability is introduced. This network employs human-designed prototypes to guide decision-making by comparing similarities between prototypical situations and encountered situations, which allows for naturally explained scheduling strategies. Comparative results across four distinct cases underscore the effectiveness and practicality of our proposed pre-hoc interpretable optimization method when contrasted with black-box models.

Underwater localization is of great importance for marine observation and building positioning, navigation, timing (PNT) systems that could be widely applied in disaster warning, underwater rescues and resources exploration. The uneven distribution of underwater sound velocity poses great challenge for precise underwater positioning. The current soundline correction positioning method mainly aims at scenarios with known target depth. However, for nodes that are non-cooperative nodes or lack of depth information, soundline tracking strategies cannot work well due to nonunique positional solutions. To tackle this issue, we propose an iterative ray tracing 3D underwater localization (IRTUL) method for stratification compensation. To demonstrate the feasibility of fast stratification compensation, we first derive the signal path as a function of glancing angle, and then prove that the signal propagation time and horizontal propagation distance are monotonic functions of the initial grazing angle, so that fast ray tracing can be achieved. Then, we propose an sound velocity profile (SVP) simplification method, which reduces the computational cost of ray tracing. Experimental results show that the IRTUL has the most significant distance correction in the depth direction, and the average accuracy of IRTUL has been improved by about 3 meters compared to localization model with constant sound velocity. Also, the simplified SVP can significantly improve real-time performance with average accuracy loss less than 0.2 m when used for positioning.

Video traffic in vehicular communication networks (VCNs) faces exponential growth. However, different segments of most videos reveal various attractiveness for viewers, and the pre-caching decision is greatly affected by the dynamic service duration that edge nodes can provide services for mobile vehicles driving along a road. In this paper, we propose an efficient video highlight pre-caching scheme in the vehicular communication network, adapting to the service duration. Specifically, a highlight entropy model is devised with the consideration of the segments' popularity and continuity between segments within a period of time, based on which, an optimization problem of video highlight pre-caching is formulated. As this problem is non-convex and lacks a closed-form expression of the objective function, we decouple multiple variables by deriving candidate highlight segmentations of videos through wavelet transform, which can significantly reduce the complexity of highlight pre-caching. Then the problem is solved iteratively by a highlight-direction trimming algorithm, which is proven to be locally optimal. Simulation results based on real-world video datasets demonstrate significant improvement in highlight entropy and jitter compared to benchmark schemes.

The Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz (KŁ) property, exponent and modulus have played a very important role in the study of global convergence and rate of convergence for optimal algorithms. In this paper, at a stationary point of a locally lower semicontinuous function, we obtain complete characterizations of the KŁ property and the KŁ modulus via the outer limiting subdifferential of an auxilliary function and a newly-introduced subderivative function respectively. In particular, for a class of prox-regular, twice epi-differentiable and subdifferentially continuous functions, we show that the KŁ property and the KŁ modulus can be described by its Moreau envelopes and a quadratic growth condition. We apply the obtained results to establish the KŁ property with exponent $\frac12$ and to provide calculation of the modulus for a smooth function, the pointwise maximum of finitely many smooth functions and regularized functions respectively. These functions often appear in the modelling of structured optimization problems.

Coupling the Karhunen-Loeve expansion with our proposed topological representation, we offer hypothesis-testing algorithms based on the chi-squared distribution for detecting significant differences between two groups of grayscale images. Much of the knowledge encoded in transformer language models (LMs) may be expressed in terms of relations: relations between words and their synonyms, entities and their attributes, etc. We show that, for a subset of relations, this computation is well-approximated by a single linear transformation on the subject representation. Linear relation representations may be obtained by constructing a first-order approximation to the LM from a single prompt, and they exist for a variety of factual, commonsense, and linguistic relations. However, we also identify many cases in which LM predictions capture relational knowledge accurately, but this knowledge is not linearly encoded in their representations. Our results thus reveal a simple, interpretable, but heterogeneously deployed knowledge representation strategy in transformer LMs.

However, most existing AI algorithms rely on many expert annotations and lack a comprehensive evaluation of accuracy and efficiency in real-world multinational settings. To overcome these limitations, we organized the FLARE 2022 Challenge, the largest abdominal organ analysis challenge to date, to benchmark fast, low-resource, accurate, annotation-efficient, and generalized AI algorithms. We constructed an intercontinental and multinational dataset from more than 50 medical groups, including Computed Tomography (CT) scans with different races, diseases, phases, and manufacturers. We independently validated that a set of AI algorithms achieved a median Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) of 90.0\% by using 50 labeled scans and 2000 unlabeled scans, which can significantly reduce annotation requirements. The best-performing algorithms successfully generalized to holdout external validation sets, achieving a median DSC of 89.5\%, 90.9\%, and 88.3\% on North American, European, and Asian cohorts, respectively. They also enabled automatic extraction of key organ biology features, which was labor-intensive with traditional manual measurements. This opens the potential to use unlabeled data to boost performance and alleviate annotation shortages for modern AI models.

Autonomous driving and intelligent transportation applications have dramatically increased the demand for high-accuracy and low-latency localization services. While cellular networks are potentially capable of target detection and localization, achieving accurate and reliable positioning faces critical challenges. Particularly, the relatively small radar cross sections (RCS) of moving targets and the high complexity for measurement association give rise to weak echo signals and discrepancies in the measurements. To tackle this issue, we propose a novel approach for multi-target localization by leveraging the controllable signal reflection capabilities of intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs). Specifically, IRSs are strategically mounted on the targets (e.g., vehicles and robots), enabling effective association of multiple measurements and facilitating the localization process. We aim to minimize the maximum Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRLB) of targets by jointly optimizing the target association, the IRS phase shifts, and the dwell time. However, solving this CRLB optimization problem is non-trivial due to the non-convex objective function and closely coupled variables. For single-target localization, a simplified closed-form expression is presented for the case where base stations (BSs) can be deployed flexibly, and the optimal BS location is derived to provide a lower performance bound of the original problem ...

The Johannsen black hole (BH) is a generic rotating BH admitting three constants of motions (energy, angular momentum, and Carter constant) and is characterized by four deviation parameters besides mass and spin, which could be a model-independent probe of the no-hair theorem. We systematically study the dynamics of null particles around Johannsen BH, revealing the effects of the deviation parameters on the BH shadow as well as the effects of spin. By using the shadow boundaries of M87* and SgrA*, for the first time, the deviation parameters of those BHs are constrained. The detailed results depend on the spin $a$ and inclination angle $ θ_0$. Assuming $a=0.2$ and $θ_0=15^{\circ}$, the deviation parameter $α_{13}$ are constained within $\sim $ [-3.5, 6] for M87* observation and [-3, 0.5] for SgrA* observation. We also show the images of a Johannsen BH surrounded by a Page-Thorne thin accretion disk observed by a remote observer with a ray-tracing method and discuss the effects of the deviation parameters on deforming the accretion disk image, which could be tested by observations with higher sensitivities in the future.

The van der Waals (vdW) semiconductor black phosphorus has been widely studied, especially after the discovery of phosphorene. On the contrary, its sister compound violet phosphorus, also a vdW semiconductor, has been rarely studied. Here we report the pressure-induced superconductivity in violet phosphorus up to $\sim$40 GPa. The superconductivity emerges at 2.75 GPa, which is well below the structural transition from monoclinic ($M$) to rhombohedral ($R$) structure at 8.5 GPa. The superconducting transition temperature ($T$$\rm_c$) shows a plateau of $\sim$7 K from 3.6 to 15 GPa, across the $M$ to $R$ structural transition, then jumps to another plateau of $\sim$10 K in the simple cubic ($C$) structure above 15 GPa. The temperature-pressure superconducting phase diagram of violet phosphorus is established, which is different from that of black phosphorus at low pressure. For black phosphorus, the superconductivity emerges until the structural transition from orthorhombic ($O$) to $R$ structure at $\sim$5 GPa, with a lower $T$$\rm_c$ than violet phosphorus. The pressure-induced superconductivity in violet phosphorus demonstrates its tunable electronic properties, and more electronics and optoelectronic applications are expected from this stable vdW semiconductor at ambient conditions.

The inclusion of the sensing functionality in the coming generations of cellular networks necessitates a rethink of dense cell deployments. In this paper, we analyze and optimize dense cell topologies for dual-functional radar-communication (DFRC) cellular networks. With the aid of tools from stochastic geometry, we derive new analytical expressions of the potential area spectral efficiencies in (bit/sec/m2) of radar and communication systems. Based on the new formulations of the potential area spectral efficiencies, the energy efficiency (bit/Joule) of DFRC systems is provided in a closed-form formula. Then, an optimization problem to obtain the optimal base station (BS) density that maximizes the network-level energy efficiency is formulated and investigated. In this regard, the mathematical expression of the energy efficiency is shown to be a uni-modal and pseudo-concave function in the density of the BSs. Therefore, the optimal density of the BSs that maximizes the energy efficiency can be obtained. Our analytical and numerical results demonstrate that the inclusion of the sensing functionality clearly differentiates the optimal BS topologies for the DFRC systems against classical communication-only systems.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is a promising paradigm to provide both sensing and communication (S&C) services in vehicular networks. However, the power of echo signals reflected from vehicles may be too weak to be used for future precise positioning, due to the practically small radar cross section of vehicles with random reflection/scattering coefficient. To tackle this issue, we propose a novel mutual assistance scheme for intelligent surface-mounted vehicles, where S&C are innovatively designed to assist each other for achieving an efficient win-win integration, i.e., sensing-assisted phase shift design and communication-assisted high-precision sensing. Specifically, we first derive closed-form expressions of the echo power and achievable rate under uncertain angle information. Then, the communication rate is maximized while satisfying sensing requirements, which is proved to be a monotonic optimization problem on time allocation. Furthermore, we unveil the feasible condition of the problem and propose a polyblock-based optimal algorithm. Simulation results validate that the performance trade-off bound of S&C is significantly enlarged by the novel design exploiting mutual assistance in intelligent surface-aided vehicular networks.

In this paper, we study the D-gap function associated with a nonsmooth and nonmonotone variational inequality problem. We present some exact formulas for the subderivative, the regular subdifferential set, and the limiting subdifferential set of the D-gap function. By virtue of these formulas, we provide some sufficient and necessary conditions for the Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz inequality property and the error bound property for the D-gap functions. As an application of our Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz inequality result and the abstract convergence result in [Attouch, et al., Convergence of descent methods for semi-algebraic and tame problems: proximal algorithms, forward-backward splitting, and regularized Gauss-Seidel methods, Math. Program., 137(2013)91-129], we show that the sequence generated by a derivative free descent algorithm with an inexact line search converges linearly to some solution of the variational inequality problem.

The recent development of integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) technology offers new opportunities to meet high-throughput and low-latency communication as well as high-resolution localization requirements in vehicular networks. However, considering the limited transmit power of the road site units (RSUs) and the relatively small radar cross section (RCS) of vehicles with random reflection coefficients, the power of echo signals may be too weak to be utilized for effective target detection and tracking. Moreover, high-frequency signals usually suffer from large fading loss when penetrating vehicles, which seriously degrades the quality of communication services inside the vehicles. To handle this issue, we propose a novel sensing-assisted communication mechanism by employing an intelligent omni-surface (IOS) on the surface of vehicles to enhance both sensing and communication (S&C) performance. To this end, we first propose a two-stage ISAC protocol, including the joint S&C stage and the communication-only stage, to fulfill more efficient communication performance improvements benefited from sensing. The achievable communication rate maximization problem is formulated by jointly optimizing the transmit beamforming, the IOS phase shifts, and the duration of the joint S&C stage. However, solving this ISAC optimization problem is highly non-trivial since inaccurate estimation and measurement information renders the achievable rate lack of closed-form expression. To handle this issue, we first derive a closed-form expression of the achievable rate under uncertain location information, and then unveil a sufficient and necessary condition for the existence of the joint S&C stage to offer useful insights for practical system design. Moreover, two typical scenarios including interference-limited and noise-limited cases are analyzed.

Furthermore, a sufficient and necessary condition for the existence of the S&C phase is derived to provide useful insights for practical system design. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed sensing-assisted communication scheme in achieving high throughput with low transmit power requirements.

Compared with English, Chinese suffers from more grammatical ambiguities, like fuzzy word boundaries and polysemous words. In this case, contextual information is not sufficient to support Chinese named entity recognition (NER), especially for rare and emerging named entities. Semantic augmentation using external knowledge is a potential way to alleviate this problem, while how to obtain and leverage external knowledge for the NER task remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose a neural-based approach to perform semantic augmentation using external knowledge from search engine for Chinese NER. In particular, a multi-channel semantic fusion model is adopted to generate the augmented input representations, which aggregates external related texts retrieved from the search engine. Experiments have shown the superiority of our model across 4 NER datasets, including formal and social media language contexts, which further prove the effectiveness of our approach.

This paper is devoted to the study of a newly introduced tool, projectional coderivatives and the corresponding calculus rules in finite dimensions. We show that when the restricted set has some nice properties, more specifically, is a smooth manifold, the projectional coderivative can be refined as a fixed-point expression. We will also improve the generalized Mordukhovich criterion to give a complete characterization of the relative Lipschitz-like property under such a setting. Chain rules and sum rules are obtained to facilitate the application of the tool to a wider range of problems.

In the framework of Einstein's gravity coupled to nonlinear electromagnetic fields, we study gravito-electromagnetic perturbations of magnetic regular black holes. The master equations of perturbations are obtained through Chandrasekhar's procedure, in which gravitational perturbations with odd-parity are coupled to the electromagnetic perturbations with even-parity. As an application, we apply the master equations to obtain quasinormal modes (QNMs) for three types of regular black holes by using numerical method. Results show that QNMs of regular black holes depends significantly on the parameters of the theory and the magnetic charge of the black holes and are very different from that of the Reissner-Nordström black hole. Indications of these results on the stability of these regular black holes are discussed in detail.

Ultrafast sub-ps THz pulse conveys rich distinctive spectral fingerprints related to the vibrational or rotational modes of biomolecules and can be used to resolve the time-dependent dynamics of the motions. Thus, an efficient platform for enhancing the THz light-matter interaction is strongly demanded. Waveguides, owing to their tightly spatial confinement of the electromagnetic fields and the longer interaction distance, are promising platforms. However, the efficient feeding of the sub-ps THz pulse to the waveguides remains challenging due to the ultra-wide bandwidth property of the ultrafast signal. We propose a sensing chip comprised of a pair of back-to-back Vivaldi antennas and a 90° bent slotline waveguide to overcome the challenge. The effective operating bandwidth of the sensing chip ranges from 0.2 to 1.15 THz, with the free-space to chip coupling efficiency up to 50%. Over the entire band, the THz signal is 42.44 dB above the noise level with a peak of 73.40 dB. To take advantages of the efficient sensing chip, we have measured the characteristic fingerprint of α-lactose monohydrate, and a sharp absorption dip at near 0.53 THz has been successfully observed demonstrating the accuracy of the proposed solution. The proposed sensing chip has the advantages of efficient in-plane coupling, ultra-wide bandwidth, easy integration and fabrication, large-scale manufacturing capability, and cost-effective, and can be a strong candidate for THz light-matter interaction platform.

Unconventional fermions in the immensely studied topological semimetals are the source for rich exotic topological properties. Here, using symmetry analysis and first-principles calculations, we propose the coexistence of multiple topological nodal structure in LaSb2, including topological nodal surfaces, nodal lines and in particular eightfold degenerate nodal points, which have been scarcely observed in a single material. Further, utilizing high resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy in combination with Shubnikov-de Haas quantum oscillations measurements, we confirm the existence of nodal surfaces and eightfold degenerate nodal points in LaSb2, and extract the π Berry phase proving the non-trivial electronic band structure topology therein. The intriguing multiple topological nodal structure might play a crucial role in giving rise to the large linear magnetoresistance. Our work renews the insights into the exotic topological phenomena in LaSb2 and its analogous.

Perceptual hashes map images with identical semantic content to the same $n$-bit hash value, while mapping semantically-different images to different hashes. These algorithms carry important applications in cybersecurity such as copyright infringement detection, content fingerprinting, and surveillance. Apple's NeuralHash is one such system that aims to detect the presence of illegal content on users' devices without compromising consumer privacy. We make the surprising discovery that NeuralHash is approximately linear, which inspires the development of novel black-box attacks that can (i) evade detection of "illegal" images, (ii) generate near-collisions, and (iii) leak information about hashed images, all without access to model parameters. These vulnerabilities pose serious threats to NeuralHash's security goals; to address them, we propose a simple fix using classical cryptographic standards.

Compared to a single UAV with limited sensing coverage and communication capability, multi-UAV cooperation is able to provide more effective sensing and transmission (S&T) services. Nevertheless, most existing works on multi-UAV sensing mainly focus on mutually exclusive task allocation and independent data transmission, which did not fully exploit the benefit of multi-UAV sensing and communication. Motivated by this, we propose a novel multi-UAV cooperative S&T scheme with replicated sensing task allocation. Although replicated task allocation may sound counter-intuitive, it can actually foster cooperative transmission among multiple UAVs and thus reduce the overall sensing mission completion time. To obtain the optimal task allocation and transmit power of the proposed scheme, a mission completion time minimization problem is formulated. To solve this problem, a necessary condition for replicated sensing task allocation is derived. For the cases of replicated sensing, the considered problem is transformed into a monotonic optimization and is solved by the generic Polyblock algorithm. To efficiently evaluate the mission completion time in each iteration of the Polyblock algorithm, new auxiliary variables are introduced to decouple the otherwise sophisticated joint optimization of transmission time and power. While for the degenerated case of non-replicated sensing, the closed-form expression of the optimal transmission time is derived

Besides improving communication performance, intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) are also promising enablers for achieving larger sensing coverage and enhanced sensing quality. Nevertheless, in the absence of a direct path between the base station (BS) and the targets, multi-target sensing is generally very difficult, since IRSs are incapable of proactively transmitting sensing beams or analyzing target information. Moreover, the echoes of different targets reflected via the IRS-established virtual links share the same directionality at the BS. In this paper, we study a wireless system comprising a multi-antenna BS and an IRS for multi-target sensing, where the beamforming vector and the IRS phase shifts are jointly optimized to improve the sensing performance. To meet the different sensing requirements, such as a minimum received power and a minimum sensing frequency, we propose three novel IRS-assisted sensing schemes: Time division (TD) sensing, signature sequence (SS) sensing, and hybrid TD-SS sensing. First, for TD sensing, the sensing tasks are performed in sequence over time. Subsequently, a novel signature sequence (SS) sensing scheme is proposed to improve sensing efficiency by establishing a relationship between directions and SSs. To strike a flexible balance between the beam pattern gain and sensing efficiency, we also propose a general hybrid TD-SS sensing scheme with target grouping, where targets belonging to the same group are sensed simultaneously via SS sensing, while the targets in different groups are assigned to orthogonal time slots. By controlling the number of groups, the hybrid TD-SS sensing scheme can provide a more flexible balance between beam pattern gain and sensing frequency. Moreover, ...

Non-reciprocal charge transport that is strongly associated with the structural or magnetic chirality of the quantum materials system is one of the most exotic properties of condensed matter physics. Here, using magnetic alloys film Pt2MnGe, we have realized the large non-reciprocal charge transport up to room temperature, which roots in the organic combination of chirality dependent carrier scattering and special magnetic configurations. In this framework, the conduction electrons are scattered asymmetrically by the emerging non-zero vector spin chirality under in-plane magnetic field, resulting in robust non-reciprocal response. More astonishingly, the vector spin chirality in Pt2MnGe film can be reversed by a spin-polarized current through spin Hall effect in a junction with Pt layer. Our work resolves the general limitation of non-reciprocal charge transport to cryogenic temperatures, and paves the way for extending its applications in the emerging field of chiral spintronics.
