In this work we study the multiplicity distributions (MDs) of charged particles within jets in proton-proton collisions, which were measured by the ATLAS collaboration in 2011, 2016 and 2019. The first data set refers to jets with lower transverse momenta ($4 < p_T < 40$ GeV ) whereas the other two refer to higher $p_T$ jets ($0.1 < p_T < 2.5$ TeV). We find that the first set shows no sign of KNO scaling whereas the higher $p_T$ sets gradually approach the scaling limit. In the first set the mean multiplicity as a function of $p_T$ can be well described by expressions derived from QCD with different approximation schemes. For higher ($> 500$ GeV) values of $p_T$ these expressions significantly overshoot the data. We show that the behavior of the MDs can be well represented by a Sub-Poisson distribution with energy dependent parameters. In the range $40 < p_T < 100$ GeV there is a transition from sub to super poissonian behavior and the MD evolves to a geometric distribution, which shows KNO scaling. In this way we fit the MDs in all transverse momentum intervals with one single expression. We discuss the implications of this phenomenological finding.

One of the hot topics in hadron physics is the study of the new exotic charmonium states and the determination of their internal structure. Another important topic is the search for effects of the magnetic field created in high energy nuclear collisions. In this note we show that we can use ultra-peripheral collisions to address both issues. We compute the cross section for the production of the $D^+ D^-$ molecular bound state in $γ-γ$ collisions. We also show how the magnetic field of the projectile can induce pion production in the target. Both processes have sizeable cross sections and their measurement would be very useful in the study of the topics mentioned above.

In this work we present a calculation of exotic charmonium production in ultra-peripheral collisions, in which the exotic state is explicitly treated as a meson molecule. Our formalism is general but we focus on the lightest possible exotic charmonium state: a $D^+ D^-$ molecular bound state. It was proposed some time ago and it has been object of experimental searches. Here we study the production of the open charm pair in the process $γγ\to D^+ D^-$. Then we use a prescription to project the free pair $ |D^+ D^- \rangle$ onto a bound state at the amplitude level and compute the cross section of the process $γγ\to B$ (where $B$ is the bound state). Finally, we convolute this last cross section with the equivalent photon distributions coming from the projectile and target in an ultra-peripheral collision and find the $A A \to A A B$ cross section, which, for $Pb-Pb$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02$ TeV, is of the order of $3 \, μ\mbox{b}$.

In this work we evaluate the $X(3872)$ to $ ψ(2S) $ yield ratio ($N_X/N_{ψ(2S)}$) in Pb Pb collisions, taking into account the interactions of the $ψ(2S) $ and $ X(3872)$ states with light mesons in the hadron gas formed at the late stages of these collisions. We employ an effective Lagrangian approach to estimate the thermally-averaged cross sections for the production and absorption of the $ψ(2S)$ and use them in the rate equation to determine the time evolution of $N_{ψ(2S)}$. The multiplicity of these states at the end of mixed phase is obtained from the coalescence model. The multiplicity of $X(3872)$, treated as a bound state of $(D\bar D^{*} + c.c.)$ and also as a compact tetraquark, was already calculated in previous works. Knowing these yields, we derive predictions for the ratio ($N_X/N_{ψ(2S)}$) as a function of the centrality, of the center-of-mass energy and of the charged hadron multiplicity measured at midrapidity $[dN_{ch}/dη\,(η<0.5)]$. Finally, we make predictions for this ratio in Pb Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02$ TeV to be measured by the ALICE Collaboration in the Run 3.

There seem to exist two lightest axial mesons with charm whose masses are very similar but the associated widths and other properties are different. These mesons are denominated as $D_1(2430)$ and $D_1(2420)$. Although two mesons with similar masses are expected to exist, with such quantum numbers, within the traditional quark model, as we discuss the description of their decay widths and other properties requires contributions from meson-meson coupled channel scattering. We present the amplitudes obtained by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equations which unavoidably lead to the generation of two axial resonances when mesons are considered as the degrees of freedom in the model. One of them is narrow and has properties in good agreement with those of $D_1(2420)$. The other pole is wider, but not wide enough to be related to $D_1(2430)$. Its position (mass) also does not match well with that of $D_1(2430)$. The situation improves when a bare quark-model state is included. Further, we calculate the scattering lengths for different channels and compare them with the available data from lattice QCD. Using arguments of heavy quark symmetry, we discuss possible differences between the scattering lengths coming from the lattice QCD calculations for the $Dπ$ and $D^*π$ systems and the preliminary experimental data from the ALICE Collaboration on the $Dπ$ system. We present two models, which can produce compatible properties for the two lightest $D_1$ states but result in different scattering lengths: one in agreement with the findings of lattice QCD and the other in agreement with the estimation obtained using the $Dπ$ results from the ALICE Collaboration. We present the correlation functions for both cases and discuss how femtoscopic physics can shed light on this issue.

Using effective Lagrangians and form factors calculated with QCD sum rules (treating the $Z_c(3900)$ as a tetraquark) we estimate the vacuum and thermally-averaged cross-sections of these reactions. We find that the $Z_c(3900)$ has relatively large interaction cross sections with the constituent particles of the hadronic medium. After that, we use the production and suppression cross sections in a rate equation to estimate the time evolution of the $Z_c$ multiplicity. We include the $Z_c$ decay and regeneration terms. The coalescence model is employed to compute the initial $Z_c$ multiplicity for the compact tetraquark configuration. Our results indicate that the combined effects of hadronic interactions, hydrodynamical expansion, decay and regeneration affect the final yield, which is bigger than the initial value. Besides, the dependence of the $Z_c$ final yield with the centrality, center-of-mass energy and the charged hadron multiplicity measured at midrapidity $[dN_{ch}/dη\,(η<0.5)]$ is also investigated.

In a previous work we computed the thermally-averaged cross sections for the production and absorption of the $χ_{c1}(4274)$ state in the hot hadron gas formed in heavy ion collisions. In the present work we estimate the final yield of this exotic state in these collisions. We use the coalescence model to fix the initial multiplicities. The state is is treated as a $P-$wave bound state of $D_s\bar D_{s0}$ and also as a compact tetraquark. The Bjorken picture is used to model the hydrodynamic expansion and cooling. Then, the kinetic equation is solved to evaluate the time evolution of the $χ_{c1}(4274)$ yield during the hot hadron gas phase. Since the $χ_{c1}(4274)$ decay width is large it might decay inside the hadron gas. Therefore we also include the $chi_{c1}(4274)$ decay and regeneration terms by means of an effective coupling, estimated from the available data. The combined effects of hadronic interactions and the $χ_{c1}(4274)$ decay have a strong impact on the final yield. Also, predictions of the $χ_{c1}(4274)$ multiplicity as a function of centrality and of the charged hadron multiplicity (measured at midrapidity) are presented. Finally, we calculate the yield of a proposed $P-$wave molecular state of $D_s \bar{D_{s0}}$, $Y^{\prime}(4274)$, characterized by a smaller width and smaller coupling constant obtained from the Weinberg compositeness condition.

In this configuration quarks are more at the surface and gluons in the inner part of the proton. Going from peripheral to more central and then to ultra-central proton-proton collisions, we go from quark-quark collisions to gluon-gluon collisions. Since gluons are much more abundant, the cross sections grow. In the case of charm production this growth is enhanced by the fact that, $σ( g + g \to c + \bar{c}) >> σ( q + \bar{q} \to c + \bar{c})$. These effects can explain the growth seen in the data.

Our results indicate that the LL spectrum is strongly suppressed at small photon virtualities. These results suggest that absorptive effects are not negligible and should be taken into account in order to extract the kaon structure function from data on leading $Λ$ production.

With the help of an effective Lagrangian formalism, we calculate the production and absorption cross sections of the $D^*$ and $D$ mesons in a hadronic medium. We compute the time evolution of the abundances and the ratio $D^* /D$. They are approximately constant in time. Also, assuming a Bjorken type cooling and using an empirical relation between the freeze-out temperature and the central multiplicity density, we estimate $D^* /D$ as a function of $ dN /d η(η=0)$, which represents the system size. We find that, while the number of $D^*$'s and $D$'s grows significantly with the system size, their ratio remains approximately constant. This prediction can be compared with future experimental data. Our results suggest that the charm meson interactions in the hadron gas do not change their multiplicities and consequently these mesons are close to chemical equilibrium.

We compare the evolution of the $T_{cc}^+$ abundance treated as a hadronic $S$-wave molecule and as a tetraquark state. Our results show that the tetraquark yield increases by a factor of about 2 at freeze-out, but it is still one order of magnitude smaller than the final yield of molecules formed from hadron coalescence. Also, the results indicate that $N_{T_{cc}}$ is more affected by interactions with hadronic medium than $ N_{X(3872)} $ in similar conditions. We also show that yields depend very weakly on the system size, represented by $\mathcal{N} = \left[ d N_{ch} / d η(η< 0.5)\right]^{1/3}$.

In this work, we update the previous calculations and compare them with the most recent data, including the very recent determination of the mass and radius of the massive pulsar PSR J0740+6620 performed by the NICER and XMM-Newton Collaborations. Our equation of state is similar to the MIT bag model one, but it includes repulsive interactions, which turn out to be essential to reproduce the accumulated experimental information. We find that our EOS is still compatible with all astrophysical observations but the parameter window is now narrower.

We compute the time evolution of the $K^*$ abundance and the $K^* /K$ ratio during the hadron gas phase. Assuming a Bjorken type cooling and using an empirical relation between the freeze-out temperature and the central multiplicity density, we are able to write $K^* /K$ as a function of ($ dN /d η(η=0)$). The obtained function is in very good agreement with recent experimental data.

We update the treatment of absorptive effects and estimate the impact of these effects on LN spectra in the kinematical range that will be probed by the Electron Ion Collider (EIC) and by the Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC). We demonstrate that Feynman scaling, associated to saturation, is not violated by the inclusion of absorptive effects. Moreover, our results indicate that the LN spectrum is strongly suppressed at small photon virtualities. These results suggest that absorptive effects cannot be disregarded in future measurements of the $γπ$ cross section to be extracted from data on leading neutron production.

In this work we introduce small changes in the model proposed by E. Levin and D. Kharzeev for multiplicity distributions of particles produced in proton-proton collisions. We compare the predictions of the model with the available experimental data from the LHC. We also consider the most recent version of the model proposed by E. Gotsman and E. Levin. These two versions of the model give a good description of the measured multiplicity distributions in the central pseudo-rapidity region ($|η| < 0.5$). The agreement with data is not so good when we consider the particles measured over a wider pseudo-rapidity interval ($|η| < 2.4$). Interestingly, the agreement becomes better when one selects events with higher transverse momentum ($p_T > 500$ MeV).

It is believed that in non-central relativistic heavy ion collisions a very strong magnetic field is formed. There are several studies of the effects of this field, where $\vec{B}$ is calculated with the expressions of classical electrodynamics. A quantum field may be approximated by a classical one when the number of field quanta in each field mode is sufficiently high. This may happen if the field sources are intense enough. In heavy ion physics the validity of the classical treatment was not investigated. In this work we propose a test of the quality of the classical approximation. We calculate an observable quantity using the classical magnetic field and also using photons as input. If the results of both approaches coincide, this will be an indication that the classical approximation is valid. More precisely, we focus on the process in which a nucleon is converted into a delta resonance, which then decays into another nucleon and a pion, i.e., $ N \to Δ\to N' π$. In ultra-peripheral relativistic heavy ion collisions this conversion can be induced by the classical magnetic field of one the ions acting on the other ion. Alternatively, we can replace the classical magnetic field by a flux of equivalent photons, which are absorbed by the target nucleons. We calculate the cross sections in these two independent ways and find that they differ from each other by $\simeq 10$ \% in the considered collision energy range. This suggests that the two formalisms are equivalent and that the classical approximation for the magnetic field is reasonable.

In particular, the experimental observation of charged charmonium-like, $Z_c$ states, and bottomonium-like, $Z_b$ states, represents a challenge since they can not be accommodated within the naive quark model. These charged states are good candidates of either tetraquark or molecular states and their observation motivated a vigorous theoretical activity. This is a rapidly evolving field with enormous amount of new experimental information. In this work, we review the current experimental progress and investigate various theoretical interpretations of these candidates of the multiquark states. The present review is written from the perspective of the QCD sum rules approach, where we present the main steps of concrete calculations and compare the results with other approaches and with experimental data.

In this letter we complement previous studies on exclusive vector meson photoproduction in hadronic collisions presenting a comprehensive analysis of the $t$ - spectrum measured in exclusive $ρ$ and $J/Ψ$ photoproduction in $pA$ collisions at the LHC. We compute the differential cross sections considering two phenomenological models for the gluon saturation effects and present predictions for $pPb$ and $pCa$ collisions. Moreover, we compare our predictions with the recent preliminary CMS data for the exclusive $ρ$ photoproduction. We demonstrate that the gluon saturation models are able to describe the CMS data at small - $t$. On the other hand, the models underestimate the few data point at large -- $t$. Our results indicate that future measurements of the large -- $t$ region can be useful to probe the presence or absence of a dip in the $t$ -- spectrum and discriminate between the different approaches to the gluon saturation effects.

We study weakly nonlinear wave perturbations propagating in a cold nonrelativistic and magnetized ideal quark-gluon plasma. We show that such perturbations can be described by the Ostrovsky equation. The derivation of this equation is presented for the baryon density perturbations. Then we show that the generalized nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger (NLS) equation can be derived from the Ostrovsky equation for the description of quasi-harmonic wave trains. This equation is modulationally stable for the wave number $k < k_m$ and unstable for $k > k_m$, where $k_m$ is the wave number where the group velocity has a maximum. We study numerically the dynamics of initial wave packets with the different carrier wave numbers and demonstrate that depending on the initial parameters they can evolve either into the NLS envelope solitons or into dispersive wave trains.

Relativistic light-front bound-state equations for double-heavy mesons, baryons and tetraquarks are constructed in the framework of supersymmetric light front holographic QCD. Although heavy quark masses strongly break conformal symmetry, supersymmetry and the holographic embedding of semiclassical light-front dynamics still holds. The theory, derived from five-dimensional anti-de Sitter space, predicts that the form of the confining potential in the light-front Hamiltonian is harmonic even for heavy quarks. Therefore, the basic underlying supersymmetric mechanism, which transforms meson-baryon and baryon-tetraquark wave functions into each other, can also be applied to the double-heavy sector; one can then successfully relate the masses of the double-heavy mesons to double-heavy baryons and tetraquarks. The dependence of the confining potential on the hadron mass scale agrees completely with the one derived in heavy light systems from heavy quark symmetry. We also make predictions for higher excitations of the charmonium and bottomonium states. In particular, the remarkable equality of the Regge slopes in the orbital angular momentum, $L$, and the principal quantum number, $n$, is predicted to remain valid.

In this note we study the $J/ψ$ interactions with other mesons in the hadron gas phase. Making use of effective field Lagrangians we obtain the cross sections for the production and absorption processes.
With respect to the existing calculations, the improvements introduced here are the inclusion of $K$ and $K^*$'s in the effective Lagrangian approach and the inclusion of processes involving the new exotic charmonium states $Z_c(3900)$ and $Z_c(4025)$.
We conclude that the interactions between $J/ψ$ and all the considered mesons reduce the original $J/ψ$ abundance ( determined at the end of the quark gluon plasma phase ) by 20 \% and 24 \% in RHIC and LHC collisions respectively. Consequently, any really significant change in the $J/ψ$ abundance comes from dissociation and regeneration processes in the QGP phase.

In this work we investigate the impact of intrinsic charm on the prompt atmospheric neutrino flux. The color dipole approach to heavy quark production is generalized to include the contribution of processes initiated by charm quarks. The prompt neutrino flux is calculated assuming the presence of intrinsic charm in the wave function of the projetile hadron. The predictions are compared with previous color dipole results which were obtained taking into account only the process initiated by gluons. In addition, we estimate the atmospheric (conventional + prompt) neutrino flux and compare our predictions with the ICECUBE results for the astrophysical neutrino flux. Our results demonstrate that the contribution of the charm quark initiated process is non - negligible and that the prompt neutrino flux can be enhanced by a factor $\approx$ 2 at large neutrino energies if an intrinsic charm component is present in the proton wave function.

In this manuscript we discuss the results of our recent study on $Ξ$ resonances. We have studied meson-baryon interaction with strangeness $-2$ by solving scattering equations in a coupled channel approach and found that the dynamics gives rise to the development of two poles in the complex plane close to the real axis. The corresponding narrow states have isospin half and spin half in one case and spin 3/2 in the other case. We find that the properties of the isospin and spin 1/2 state are strikingly similar to $Ξ(1690)$, while the state with spin 3/2 can be related to $Ξ(2120)$. We find that our results on $Ξ(1690)$ are in good agreement with the data available from the BELLE and BABAR Collaborations. Our formalism consists of treating pseudoscalar-baryon and vector-baryon channels on an equal footing. Since the thresholds of such channels are distributed over a relatively larger energy range, we obtain all interaction kernels needed to solve the Bethe-Salpeter equation without resorting to any nonrelativistic approximation even though the amplitudes are calculated at low energies.

We update and extend previous calculations introducing strange meson interactions and also including the interactions mediated by the recently measured exotic charmonium resonances $Z(3900)$ and $Z(4025)$. These resonances open new reaction channels for the $J/ψ$, which could potentially lead to changes in its multiplicity. We compute the $J/ψ$ production cross section in processes such as $D_{(s)}^{(*)} + \bar{D}^{(*)} \to J/ψ+ (π, ρ, K, K^{\ast})$ and also the $J/ψ$ absorption cross section in the corresponding inverse processes. Using the obtained cross sections as input to solve the rate equation, we conclude that the interactions in the hadron gas phase do not significantly affect the $J/Ψ$ abundance. We use a non-relativistic model to study the mass spectroscopy of a tetraquark composed by $c \, \bar{c} \, c \, \bar{c}$ quarks in the diquark-antidiquark picture. By numerically solving the Schrödinger equation with a Cornell-inspired potential, we separate the four-body problem into three two-body problems. Spin-dependent terms (spin-spin, spin-orbit and tensor) are used to describe the splitting structure of the $c\bar{c}$ spectrum and are also extended to the interaction between diquarks. Recent experimental data on charmonium states are used to fix the parameters of the model and a satisfactory description of the spectrum is obtained. We find that the spin-dependent interaction is sizable in the diquark-antidiquark system, despite of the heavy diquark mass, and that the diquark has a finite size if treated in analogy to the $c\bar{c}$ systems. We find that the lowest $S$-wave $T_{4c}$ tetraquarks might be below their thresholds of spontaneous dissociation into low-lying charmonium pairs, while orbital and radial excitations would be mostly above the corresponding charmonium pair threshold. These states could be investigated in the forthcoming experiments at LHCb and Belle II.

In this paper we present a comprehensive analysis of exclusive vector meson photoproduction in $pp$, $pPb$ and $PbPb$ collisions at Run 2 LHC energies using the Color Dipole formalism. The rapidity distributions and total cross sections for the $ρ$, $φ$, $J/Ψ$, $Ψ(2S)$ and $Υ$ production are estimated considering the more recent phenomenological models for the dipole - proton scattering amplitude, which are based on the Color Glass Condensate formalism and are able to describe the inclusive and exclusive $ep$ HERA data. Moreover, we also discuss the impact of the modelling of the vector meson wave functions on the predictions. The current theoretical uncertainty in the Color Dipole predictions is estimated and a comparison with the experimental results is performed.

The experimental results of the future electron -- ion ($e A$) collider are expected to constrain the dynamics of the strong interactions at small values of the Bjorken -- $x$ variable and large nuclei. Recently it has been suggested that Coulomb corrections can be important in inclusive and diffractive $eA$ interactions. In this paper we present a detailed investigation of the impact of the Coulomb corrections to some of the observables that will be measured in the future $eA$ collider. In particular, we estimate the magnitude of these corrections for the charm and longitudinal cross sections in inclusive and diffractive interactions. Our results demonstrate that the Coulomb corrections for these observables are negligible, which implies that they can be used to probe the QCD dynamics.

Abstract:
We have computed the isospin and spin averaged cross sections of the processes $πK^*\to ρK$ and $ρK^*\to πK$, which are crucial in the determination of the abundances of $K^*$ and $K$ in heavy ion collisions. Improving previous calculations, we have considered several mechanisms which were missing, such as the exchange of axial and vector resonances ($K_1(1270)$, $K^*_2(1430)$, $h_1(1170)$, etc...) and also other processes such as $πK^*\to ωK, φK$ and $ωK^*,\,φK^*\to πK$. We find that some of these mechanisms give important contributions to the cross section. Our results also suggest that, in a hadron gas, $K^*$ production might be more important than its absorption.

The Real Compton Scattering in ultraperipheral $pPb$ collisions at RHIC and LHC energies is investigated and predictions for the squared transverse momentum ($t$) and rapidity ($Y$) distributions are presented. The scattering amplitude is assumed to be given by the sum of the Reggeon and Pomeron contributions and the Pomeron one is described by the Color Dipole formalism taking into account the non - linear (saturation) effects in the QCD dynamics. We demonstrate that the behaviour of the cross sections at large -- $t$ and/or $Y$ is dominated by the Pomeron contribution and is strongly affected by the non -- linear effects present in the QCD dynamics. These results indicate that a future experimental analysis of this process can be useful to probe the QCD dynamics at high energies.

We use a non-relativistic model to study the spectroscopy of a tetraquark composed of $[cc][\bar{c}\bar{c}]$ in a diquark-antidiquark configuration. We find that the spin-dependent interaction is sizable in the diquark-antidiquark system, despite the heavy diquark mass, and also that the diquark has a finite size if treated in the same way as the $c\bar{c}$ systems. We find that the lowest $S$-wave $T_{4c}$ tetraquarks might be below their thresholds of spontaneous dissociation into low-lying charmonium pairs, while orbital and radial excitations would be mostly above the corresponding charmonium pair thresholds. Finally, we repeat the calculations without the confining part of the potential and obtain bound diquarks and bound tetraquarks. This might be relevant to the study of exotic charmonium in the quark-gluon plasma. The $T_{4c}$ states could be investigated in the forthcoming experiments at the LHC and Belle II.

We use a generic form for the equation of state, the EOS derived from the MIT bag model and also a variant of the this model which includes gluon degrees of freedom. The results of this analysis may be relevant for perturbations propagating through the quark matter phase in the core of compact stars and also for perturbations propagating in the low temperature quark-gluon plasma formed in low energy heavy ion collisions, to be carried out at FAIR and NICA.

The absorption cross sections are found to be much larger than the production ones.

We study $D$ - meson production at forward rapidities taking into account the non - linear effects in the QCD dynamics and the intrinsic charm component of the proton wave function. The total cross section, the rapidity distributions and the Feynman - $x$ distributions are calculated for $p p$ collisions at different center of mass energies. Our results show that, at the LHC, the intrinsic charm component changes the $D$ rapidity distributions in a region which is beyond the coverage of the LHCb detectors. At higher energies the IC component dominates the $y$ and $x_F$ distributions exactly in the range where the produced $D$ mesons decay and contribute the most to the prompt atmospheric neutrino flux measured by the ICECUBE Collaboration. We compute the $x_F$ - distributions and demonstrate that they are enhanced at LHC energies by approximately one order of magnitude in the $0.2 \le x_F \le 0.8$ range.

The exclusive vector meson production cross section is one of the most promising observables to probe the high energy regime of the QCD dynamics. In particular, the squared momentum transfer ($t$) distributions are an important source of information about the spatial distribution of the gluons in the hadron and about fluctuations of the color fields. In this paper we complement previous studies on exclusive vector meson photoproduction in hadronic collisions presenting a comprehensive analysis of the $t$ - spectrum measured in exclusive $ρ$, $φ$ and $J/Ψ$ photoproduction in $pp$ and $PbPb$ collisions at the LHC. We compute the differential cross sections taking into account gluon saturation effects and compare the predictions with those obtained in the linear regime of the QCD dynamics. Our results show that gluon saturation suppresses the magnitude of the cross sections and shifts the position of the dips towards smaller values of $t$.
