When the degeneracies of the ring-Hamiltonian are removed by the asymmetric ring-to-electrodes configuration for an open quantum ring (OQR), the overall junction transmission function exhibits fano-type antiresonance, resulting a net circular current appears within the channel, that is the ring around the degenerate energy levels of the ring-Hamiltonian. We investigate the system size scaling properties of the channel conductance and the overall junction conductance of an OQR. Ballistic transport is the unhindered flow of a charge carrier within a conductor. Here we find beyond-ballistic transport near both the degenerate and non-degenerate eigenenergies of the ring-Hamiltonian, depending on the ring-to-lead configuration. This is a purely OQR phenomenon associated with the quantum interference effect between two counter-propagating electronic waves having nearly equal and opposite momenta. Thus there is no equivalent phenomenon in open quantum junctions with linear channel.

We review the main applications of machine learning models that are not fully supervised in particle physics, i.e., clustering, anomaly detection, detector simulation, and unfolding. Unsupervised methods are ideal for anomaly detection tasks -- machine learning models can be trained on background data to identify deviations if we model the background data precisely. The learning can also be partially unsupervised when we can provide some information about the anomalies at the data level. Generative models are useful in speeding up detector simulations -- they can mimic the computationally intensive task without large resources. They can also efficiently map detector-level data to parton-level data (i.e., data unfolding). In this review, we focus on interesting ideas and connections and briefly overview the underlying techniques wherever necessary.

In an open quantum system having a channel in the form of loop geometry, the current inside the channel, namely circular current, and overall junction current, namely transport current, can be different. A quantum ring has doubly degenerate eigen energies due to periodic boundary condition that is broken in an asymmetric ring where the ring is asymmetrically connected to the external electrodes. Kramers' degeneracy and spin degeneracy can be lifted by considering non-zero magnetic field and spin-orbit interaction (SOI), respectively. Here, we find that symmetry breaking impacts the circular current density vs energy ($E$) spectra in addition to lifting the degeneracy. For charge and spin current densities, the corresponding effects are not the same. Under symmetry-breaking they may remain symmetric or anti-symmetric or asymmetric around $E = 0$ whereas the transmission function (which is proportional to the junction current density) vs energy characteristic remains symmetric around $E = 0$. This study leads us to estimate the qualitative nature of the circular current and the choices of Fermi-energy/chemical potential to have a net non-zero current. As a result, we may manipulate the system to generate pure currents of charge, spin, or both, which is necessary for any spintronic and electronic applications.

Working within the approximation of small amplitude expansion, recently an entropy current has been constructed on the horizons of dynamical black hole solution in any higher derivative theory of gravity. In this note, we have dualized this horizon entropy current to a boundary entropy current in an asymptotically AdS black hole metric with a dual description in terms of dynamical fluids living on the AdS boundary. This boundary entropy current is constructed using a set of mapping functions relating each point on the horizon to a point on the boundary. We have applied our construction to black holes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory. We have seen that up to the first order in derivative expansion, Gauss-Bonnet terms do not add any extra corrections to fluid entropy as expected. However, at the second order in derivative expansion, the boundary current will non-trivially depend on how we choose our horizon to boundary map, which need not be expressible entirely in terms of fluid variables. So generically, the boundary entropy current generated by dualizing the horizon current will not admit a fluid dynamical description.

These are orbits of a subgroup of the isotropy group acting in the tangent space at the basepoint. We show how their dimensions (infinitesimal data) and connected components (topological data) are encoded in the diagram, multiplicities, Weyl group and lattice of the symmetric space. Obtaining this data is precisely what we mean by counting geodesics. This extends previous results on compact Lie groups. Recently, it has been shown that for a dynamical black hole in any higher derivative theory of gravity, one could construct a spatial entropy current, characterizing the in/outflow of entropy at every point on the horizon, as long as the dynamics of the amplitude is small enough. However, the construction is very much dependent on how we choose the spatial slicing of the horizon along its null generators. In this note, we have shown that though both the entropy density and the spatial entropy current change non-trivially under a reparametrization of the null generator, the net entropy production, which is given by the `time' derivative of entropy density plus the divergence of the spatial current is invariant. We have explicitly verified this claim for the particular case of dynamical black holes Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory.

Both charge and spin currents appear within the ring. Whereas when the ring is symmetrically connected to the external leads, we can get a pure charge current at non-zero Fermi-energy. On the other hand, for asymmetric ring-to-leads configuration, at zero Fermi-energy, the spin current vanishes but a pure charge current flows within the ring. Tuning RSOI, we demonstrate a way to control the pure spin current externally. This new perspective of the generation of the pure spin circular current can open a new basis for the highly efficient, low energy cost spintronic devices.

This article grew out of the urge to realize explicit examples of solutions for the Ricci flow as families of isometrically embedded submanifolds, together with its Gromov-Hausdorff collapses. To this aim, we consider the Ricci flow of invariant metrics in a class of flag manifolds.
On the one hand, we contrast with a previous result in literature by presenting entire flow lines of invariant metrics realized as orbits of a fixed representation. Indeed, we prove that the subset of realizable metrics has a global attractor with open interior, containing an expressive family of complete flow lines. On the other hand, we prove that certain collapses cannot be realized in any fixed Euclidean space.
We provide a detailed picture of the flow, including examples of both realizable and non-realizable flow lines and collapses.

Predicting tropical cyclone (TC) rapid intensification (RI) is an important yet challenging task in current operational forecast due to our incomplete understanding of TC nonlinear processes. This study examines the variability of RI onset, including the probability of RI occurrence and the timing of RI onset, using a low-order stochastic model for TC development. Defining RI onset time as the first hitting time in the model for a given subset in the TC-scale state space, we quantify the probability of the occurrence of RI onset and the distribution of the timing of RI onset for a range of initial conditions and model parameters. Based on asymptotic analysis for stochastic differential equations, our results show that RI onset occurs later, along with a larger variance of RI onset timing, for weaker vortex initial condition and stronger noise amplitude. In the small noise limit, RI onset probability approaches one and the RI onset timing has less uncertainty (i.e., a smaller variance), consistent with observation of TC development under idealized environment. Our theoretical results are verified against Monte-Carlo simulations and compared with explicit results for a general 1-dimensional system, thus providing new insights into the variability of RI onset and helping better quantify the uncertainties of RI variability for practical applications.

We construct a proof of the second law of thermodynamics in an arbitrary diffeomorphism invariant theory of gravity working within the approximation of linearized dynamical fluctuations around stationary black holes. We achieve this by establishing the existence of an entropy current defined on the horizon of the dynamically perturbed black hole in such theories. By construction, this entropy current has non-negative divergence, suggestive of a mechanism for the dynamical black hole to approach a final equilibrium configuration via entropy production as well as the spatial flow of it on the null horizon. This enables us to argue for the second law in its strongest possible form, which has a manifest locality at each space-time point. We explicitly check that the form of the entropy current that we construct in this paper exactly matches with previously reported expressions computed considering specific four derivative theories of higher curvature gravity. Using the same set up we also provide an alternative proof of the physical process version of the first law applicable to arbitrary higher derivative theories of gravity.

A new proposal is given for designing a non-volatile, completely spin logic device, that can be reprogrammed for different functional classical logical operations. We use the concept of bias driven spin dependent circular current and current induced magnetic field in a quantum ring under asymmetric ring-to-electrode interface configuration to implement all the Boolean operations. We extend our idea to build two kinds of parallel computing architectures for getting parallelized operations, all at a particular time. For one case, different kinds of parallel operations are performed in a single device, whereas in the other type all the possible inputs of a logic gate are processed in parallel and all the outputs are read simultaneously. The performance and reliability are investigated in terms of power, delay and power-delay-product and finally the system temperature. We find that both the individual and simultaneous logic operations studied here are much superior compared to the operations performed in different conventional logic families like complementary metal oxide semiconductor logic, transistor-transistor logic, etc. The key advantage is that we can perform several logic operations, as many as we wish, repeating the same or different logic gates using a single setup, which indeed reduces wiring in the circuits and hence consumes much less power. Our analysis can be utilized to design optimized logic circuits at nano-scale level.

The Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) is designed to move the field of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) to the energy and intensity frontier of particle physics. Exploiting energy recovery technology, it collides a novel, intense electron beam with a proton or ion beam from the High Luminosity--Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). The accelerator and interaction region are designed for concurrent electron-proton and proton-proton operation. This report represents an update of the Conceptual Design Report (CDR) of the LHeC, published in 2012. It comprises new results on parton structure of the proton and heavier nuclei, QCD dynamics, electroweak and top-quark physics. It is shown how the LHeC will open a new chapter of nuclear particle physics in extending the accessible kinematic range in lepton-nucleus scattering by several orders of magnitude. Due to enhanced luminosity, large energy and the cleanliness of the hadronic final states, the LHeC has a strong Higgs physics programme and its own discovery potential for new physics. Building on the 2012 CDR, the report represents a detailed updated design of the energy recovery electron linac (ERL) including new lattice, magnet, superconducting radio frequency technology and further components. Challenges of energy recovery are described and the lower energy, high current, 3-turn ERL facility, PERLE at Orsay, is presented which uses the LHeC characteristics serving as a development facility for the design and operation of the LHeC. An updated detector design is presented corresponding to the acceptance, resolution and calibration goals which arise from the Higgs and parton density function physics programmes. The paper also presents novel results on the Future Circular Collider in electron-hadron mode, FCC-eh, which utilises the same ERL technology to further extend the reach of DIS to even higher centre-of-mass energies.

This article addresses the problem of computing the topological entropy of an application $ψ: G \to G$, where $G$ is a Lie group, given by some power $ψ(g) = g^k$, with $k$ a positive integer. When $G$ is commutative, $ψ$ is an endomorphism and its topological entropy is given by $h(ψ) = \dim(T(G)) \log(k)$, where $T(G)$ is the maximal torus of $G$, as shown in \cite{patrao:endomorfismos}. But when $G$ is not commutative, $ψ$ is no longer an endomorphism and these previous results cannot be used. Still, $ψ$ has some interesting symmetries, for example, it commutes with the conjugations of $G$. In this paper, the structure theory of Lie groups is used to show that $h(ψ) = \dim(T)\log(k)$, where $T$ is a maximal torus of $G$, generalizing the commutative case formula. In particular, the topological entropy of powers on compact Lie groups with discrete center is always positive, in contrast to what happens to endomorphisms of such groups, which always have null entropy.

Analogous to circular spin current in an isolated quantum loop, bias induced spin circular current can also be generated under certain physical conditions in a nanojunction having single and/or multiple loop geometries which we propose first time, to the best of our concern, considering a magnetic quantum system. The key aspect of our work is the development of a suitable theory for defining and analyzing circular spin current in presence of environmental dephasing and impurities. Unlike transport current in a conducting junction, circular current may enhance significantly in presence of disorder and phase randomizing processes. Our analysis provides a new spin dependent phenomenon, and can give important signatures in designing suitable spintronic devices as well as selective spin regulations.

We study the phenomenology of two leptoquarks, the Standard Model $SU(2)$ singlets $S_1$ and $U_1$, with regard to the latest experimental data from the low-energy flavor physics measurements, LHC, and the IceCube neutrino experiment. We consider a scenario when scalar (vector) leptoquark $S_1$ ($U_1$) couples exclusively to the down quark and the neutrinos (charged leptons) of all flavors, where the leptoquark in question couples to the SM lepton doublets. The couplings of $S_1$ ($U_1$) to the up-type quarks and the charged leptons (neutrinos) are in turn uniquely determined via $SU(2)$ symmetry. We find that the most important constraints on the leptoquark parameter space originate from flavor physics measurements, followed by the LHC search limits that take over the flavor physics ones in the large LQ mass regime. We furthermore show that $S_1$ ($U_1$) marginally improves (spoils) the fit of the current IceCube data with respect to the SM case within the region of parameter space that is otherwise consistent with various low-energy flavor physics measurements and the latest LHC input. Our study offers an up-to-date analysis for these two leptoquarks in view of the latest experimental data.

Quasicrystals have been the subject of intense research in the discipline of condensed matter physics due to their non-trivial characteristic features. In the present work we put forward a new prescription to realize both charge and spin current rectifications considering a one-dimensional quasicrystal whose site energies and/or nearest-neighbor hopping (NNH) integrals are modulated in the form of well known Aubry-André or Harper (AAH) model, a classic example of an aperiodic system. Each site of the chain contains a finite magnetic moment which is responsible for spin separation, and, in presence of finite bias an electric field is generated along the chain which essentially makes the asymmetric band structures under forward and reverse biased conditions, yielding finite rectification. Rectification is observed in two forms: (i) positive and (ii) negative, depending on the sign of currents in two bias polarities. These two forms can only be observed in the case of spin current rectification, while charge current shows conventional rectification operation. Moreover, we discuss how rectification ratio and especially its direction can be controlled by AAH phase which is always beneficial for efficient designing of a device. Finally, we critically examine the role of dephasing on rectification operations. Our study gives a new platform to analyze current rectification at nano-scale level, and can be verified in different quasi-crystals along with quantum Hall systems.

In this note we have compared two different perturbation techniques that could be used to generate solutions of Einstein's equations in presence of negative cosmological constant. One of these two methods is derivative expansion and the other is an expansion in inverse powers of dimension. Both the techniques generate space-time with a singularity shielded by a dynamical event horizon. We have shown that in the appropriate regime of parameter space and with appropriate choice of coordinates, the metrics and corresponding horizon dynamics, generated by these two different techniques, are exactly equal to the order the solutions are known both sides. This work is essentially extension of \cite{prevwork} where the authors have shown the equivalence of the two techniques up to the first non-trivial order.

We discuss $B_c \to η_c$ and $B_c \to J/ψ$ semileptonic decays within the Standard Model (SM) and beyond. The relevant transition form factors, being the main source of theoretical uncertainties, are calculated in the sum rule approach and are provided in a full $q^2$ range. We calculate the semileptonic branching fractions and find for the ratios, $R_{η_c}|_{\rm SM}= 0.32 \pm 0.02$, $R_{J/ψ}|_{\rm SM} = 0.23 \pm 0.01$. Both predictions are in agreement with other existing calculations and support the current tension in $R_{J/ψ}$ at 2$σ$ level with the experiment. To extend the potential of testing the SM in the semileptonic $B_c$ decays, we consider the forward-backward asymmetry and polarization observables. We also study the 4-fold differential distributions of $B_c \rightarrow J/ψ(J/ψ\to \tilde{\ell}^-\tilde{\ell}^+ ) \ell^- \barν_\ell$, where $\tilde{\ell} = e, μ$, in the presence of different new physics scenarios and find that the new physics effects can significantly modify the angular observables and can also produce effects which do not exist in the SM. Using the constraints on the new physics couplings from the recent combined analysis of BaBar, Belle and LHCb data on semileptonic $B \to D^{(\ast)}$ decays, where the effects of new physics could be visible, we find that these different new physics scenarios are not able to simultaneously explain the current experimental value of $R_{J/ψ}$.

All possible logic functions can be engineered from a single device without redesigning the circuit which certainly offers the opportunities of designing new generation spintronic devices. A complete analytical prescription is given to perform three basic (OR, AND, NOT) and two universal (NAND, NOR) logic gates at nano-scale level using simple tailor made geometries. Two different geometries, ring-like and chain-like, are taken into account where in each case the bridging conductor is coupled to a local atomic site through a dangling bond whose site energy can be controlled by means of external gate electrode. The main idea is that when injecting electron energy matches with site energy of local atomic site transmission probability drops exactly to zero, whereas the junction exhibits finite transmission for other energies. Utilizing this prescription we perform logical operations, and, we strongly believe that the proposed results can be verified in laboratory. Finally, we numerically compute two-terminal transmission probability considering general models and the numerical results matches exactly well with our analytical findings.

In this note, we have compared two different perturbation techniques that are used to generate dynamical black-brane solutions to Einstein equation in presence of negative cosmological constant. One is the `derivative expansion', where the gravity solutions are in one-to-one correspondence with the solutions of relativistic Navier-Stokes equation. The second is the expansion in terms of inverse power of space-time dimensions and here the gravity solutions are dual to a co-dimension one dynamical membrane, embedded in AdS space and coupled to a velocity field. We have shown that in large number of space-time dimensions, there exists an overlap regime between these two perturbation techniques and we matched the two gravity solutions along with their dual systems upto the first non-trivial order in the expansion parameter on both sides. In the process, we established a one-to-one map between dynamical black-brane geometry and the AdS space, which exists even when the number of dimensions is finite.

The constraints from the electroweak precision observables, perturbative unitarity, vacuum stability and flavour physics are all taken into account along with the latest Large Hadron Collider searches for the charged Higgs. It is observed that a large enhancement of the branching ratio can be obtained in the limit where there is a large splitting between the charged and pseudo-scalar Higgs masses as well as for the largest allowed values of the alignment parameter $ς_u$. We find that the maximum possible branching ratio in the case of a large mass splitting between $m_{H^\pm}$ and $m_A$ is $\approx 10^{-3}$ for $m_{H^\pm} \in (200,700)$ GeV which is in the reach of the high luminosity phase of the Large Hadron Collider.

We find that the spin-2 particle can modify the angular observables in the $B \to K μ^+ μ^-$ and $B \to K^* μ^+ μ^-$ decays and produce effects which do not exist in the SM. In this paper, we determine the topological entropy $h(φ)$ of a continuous endomorphism $φ$ of a Lie group $G$. This computation is a classical topic in ergodic theory which seemed to have long been solved. But, when $G$ is noncompact, the well known Bowen's formula for the entropy $h_{d}(φ)$ associated to a left invariant distance $d$ just provides an upper bound to $h(φ)$, which is characterized by the so called variational principle. We prove that \[ h\left(φ\right) = h\left(φ|_{T(G_φ)}\right) \] where $G_φ$ is the maximal connected subgroup of $G$ such that $φ(G_φ) = G_φ$, and $T(G_φ)$ is the maximal torus in the center of $G_φ$. This result shows that the computation of the topological entropy of a continuous endomorphism of a Lie group reduces to the classical formula for the topological entropy of a continuous endomorphism of a torus. Our approach explores the relation between null topological entropy and the nonexistence of Li-Yorke pairs and also relies strongly on the structure theory of Lie groups.

We study the nature of the flavor changing neutral couplings of the top quark with the Higgs boson and the up/charm quark in the $t\bar{t}$ production at linear colliders. There are previous bounds on such tqH couplings at both, linear and hadronic colliders, with the assumption that it couples equally to the left and the right handed fermions. In this paper we examine the chirality of the tqH coupling and construct different observables which will be sensitive to it. The kinematics of the emitted q from t $\rightarrow$ qH in $t\bar{t}$ production is discussed and it was found that the polar angle distribution of q is sensitive to the chiral nature of tqH couplings. The observables in the context of top-antitop spin correlations, which are sensitive to new physics in the top decay are considered using different spin-quantization bases. It was found that in particular the off-diagonal basis can be useful to distinguish among the chiral tqH couplings. The sensitivity of the unpolarized ILC in probing the couplings at the 3$σ$ level at $\sqrt{s}$ = 500 GeV and L = 500 fb$^{-1}$ is also studied, resulting in predicted BR(t $\rightarrow$ qH) < 1.19 $\times 10^{-3}$. This limit is further improved to BR(t $\rightarrow$ qH) < 8.84 $\times 10^{-4}$ with the inclusion of initial beam polarization of left handed electrons and right handed positrons.

Modulation of circular current and associated magnetic field in a molecular junction: A new approach
Authors:

Abstract:
A new proposal is given to control local magnetic field in a molecular junction. In presence of finite bias a net circular current is established in the molecular ring which induces a magnetic field at its centre. Allowing a direct coupling between two electrodes, due to their close proximity, and changing its strength we can regulate circular current as well as magnetic field for a wide range, wi…

A new proposal is given to control local magnetic field in a molecular junction. In presence of finite bias a net circular current is established in the molecular ring which induces a magnetic field at its centre. Allowing a direct coupling between two electrodes, due to their close proximity, and changing its strength we can regulate circular current as well as magnetic field for a wide range, without disturbing any other physical parameters. We strongly believe that our proposal is quite robust compared to existing approaches of controlling local magnetic field and can be verified experimentally.

We investigate the decidability of model-checking logics of time, knowledge and probability, with respect to two epistemic semantics: the clock and synchronous perfect recall semantics in partially observed discrete-time Markov chains. Decidability results are known for certain restricted logics with respect to these semantics, subject to a variety of restrictions that are either unexplained or involve a longstanding unsolved mathematical problem. We show that mild generalizations of the known decidable cases suffice to render the model checking problem definitively undecidable. In particular, for a synchronous perfect recall, a generalization from temporal operators with finite reach to operators with infinite reach renders model checking undecidable. The case of the clock semantics is closely related to a monadic second order logic of time and probability that is known to be decidable, except on a set of measure zero. We show that two distinct extensions of this logic make model checking undecidable. One of these involves polynomial combinations of probability terms, the other involves monadic second order quantification into the scope of probability operators. These results explain some of the restrictions in previous work.

Abstract:
We consider the Higgs-radion mixing in the context of warped space extra dimensional models with custodial symmetry and investigate the prospects of detecting the mixed radion. Custodial symmetries allow the Kaluza-Klein excitations to be lighter, and protect Zbb to be in agreement with experimental constraints. We perform a complementary study of discovery reaches of the Higgs-radion mixed state at the 13 and 14 TeV LHC and at the 500 and 1000 GeV ILC. We carry out a comprehensive analysis of the most significant production and decay modes of the mixed radion in the 80 GeV - 1 TeV mass range, and indicate the parameter space that can be probed at the LHC and the ILC. There exists a region of the parameter space which can be probed, at the LHC, through the diphoton channel even for a relatively low luminosity of 50 fb^{-1}. The reach of the 4-lepton final state, in probing the parameter space is also studied in the context of 14 TeV LHC, for a luminosity of 1000 fb^{-1}. At the ILC, with an integrated luminosity of 500 fb^{-1}, we analyze the Z-radion associated production and the WW fusion production, followed by the radion decay into bb and W+W-. The WW fusion production is favored over the Z-radion associated channel in probing regions of the parameter space beyond the LHC reach. The complementary study at the LHC and the ILC is useful both for the discovery of the radion and the understanding of its mixing sector.

In the present work we investigate the behavior of all three components of persistent spin current in a quasi-periodic Fibonacci ring subjected to Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions. Analogous to persistent charge current in a conducting ring where electrons gain a Berry phase in presence of magnetic flux, spin Berry phase is associated during the motion of electrons in presence of a spin-orbit field which is responsible for the generation of spin current. The interplay between two spin-orbit fields along with quasi-periodic Fibonacci sequence on persistent spin current is described elaborately, and from our analysis, we can estimate the strength of any one of two spin-orbit couplings together with on-site energy, provided the other is known.
