ERP-based EEG detection is gaining increasing attention in the field of brain-computer interfaces. However, due to the complexity of ERP signal components, their low signal-to-noise ratio, and significant inter-subject variability, cross-subject ERP signal detection has been challenging. The continuous advancement in deep learning has greatly contributed to addressing this issue. This brief proposes a contrastive learning training framework and an Inception module to extract multi-scale temporal and spatial features, representing the subject-invariant components of ERP signals. Specifically, a base encoder integrated with a linear Inception module and a nonlinear projector is used to project the raw data into latent space. By maximizing signal similarity under different targets, the inter-subject EEG signal differences in latent space are minimized. The extracted spatiotemporal features are then used for ERP target detection. The proposed algorithm achieved the best AUC performance in single-trial binary classification tasks on the P300 dataset and showed significant optimization in speller decoding tasks compared to existing algorithms.

This article presents a digital twin (DT)-enhanced reinforcement learning (RL) framework aimed at optimizing performance and reliability in network resource management, since the traditional RL methods face several unified challenges when applied to physical networks, including limited exploration efficiency, slow convergence, poor long-term performance, and safety concerns during the exploration phase. To deal with the above challenges, a comprehensive DT-based framework is proposed to enhance the convergence speed and performance for unified RL-based resource management. The proposed framework provides safe action exploration, more accurate estimates of long-term returns, faster training convergence, higher convergence performance, and real-time adaptation to varying network conditions. Then, two case studies on ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC) services and multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) network are presented, demonstrating improvements of the proposed framework in performance, convergence speed, and training cost reduction both on traditional RL and neural network based Deep RL (DRL). Finally, the article identifies and explores some of the research challenges and open issues in this rapidly evolving field.

The increasing frequency of extreme weather events has posed significant risks to the operation of power grids. During long-duration extreme weather events, microgrid formation (MF) is an essential solution to enhance the resilience of the distribution systems by proactively partitioning the distribution system into several microgrids to mitigate the impact of contingencies. This paper proposes a distributionally robust dynamic microgrid formation (DR-DMF) approach to fully consider the temporal characteristics of line failure probability during long-duration extreme weather events like typhoons. The boundaries of each microgrid are dynamically adjusted to enhance the resilience of the system. Furthermore, the expected load shedding is minimized by a distributionally robust optimization model considering the uncertainty of line failure probability regarding the worst-case distribution of contingencies. The effectiveness of the proposed model is verified by numerical simulations on a modified IEEE 37-node system.

Multi-modal ophthalmic image classification plays a key role in diagnosing eye diseases, as it integrates information from different sources to complement their respective performances. However, recent improvements have mainly focused on accuracy, often neglecting the importance of confidence and robustness in predictions for diverse modalities. In this study, we propose a novel multi-modality evidential fusion pipeline for eye disease screening. It provides a measure of confidence for each modality and elegantly integrates the multi-modality information using a multi-distribution fusion perspective. Specifically, our method first utilizes normal inverse gamma prior distributions over pre-trained models to learn both aleatoric and epistemic uncertainty for uni-modality. Then, the normal inverse gamma distribution is analyzed as the Student's t distribution. Furthermore, within a confidence-aware fusion framework, we propose a mixture of Student's t distributions to effectively integrate different modalities, imparting the model with heavy-tailed properties and enhancing its robustness and reliability. More importantly, the confidence-aware multi-modality ranking regularization term induces the model to more reasonably rank the noisy single-modal and fused-modal confidence, leading to improved reliability and accuracy. Experimental results on both public and internal datasets demonstrate that our model excels in robustness, particularly in challenging scenarios involving Gaussian noise and modality missing conditions. Moreover, our model exhibits strong generalization capabilities to out-of-distribution data, underscoring its potential as a promising solution for multimodal eye disease screening.

Multichannel active noise control (ANC) systems are designed to create a large zone of quietness (ZoQ) around the error microphones, however, the placement of these microphones often presents challenges due to physical limitations. Virtual sensing technique that effectively suppresses the noise far from the physical error microphones is one of the most promising solutions. Nevertheless, the conventional multichannel virtual sensing ANC (MVANC) system based on the multichannel filtered reference least mean square (MCFxLMS) algorithm often suffers from high computational complexity. This paper proposes a feedforward MVANC system that incorporates the multichannel adjoint least mean square (MCALMS) algorithm to overcome these limitations effectively. Computational analysis demonstrates the improvement of computational efficiency and numerical simulations exhibit comparable noise reduction performance at virtual locations compared to the conventional MCFxLMS algorithm. Additionally, the effects of varied tuning noises on system performance are also investigated, providing insightful findings on optimizing MVANC systems.

This paper focuses on enhancing noise reduction performance, particularly through the refinement of signal quality fed into ANC systems. We discuss the main wireless technique integrated into the ANC system, equipped with some innovative algorithms, in diverse environments. Instead of using microphone arrays, which increase the computation complexity of the ANC system, to isolate multiple noise sources to improve noise reduction performance, the application of the wireless technique avoids extra computation demand. Wireless transmissions of reference, error, and control signals are also applied to improve the convergence performance of the ANC system. Future wireless networks will integrate sensing, learning and communication to provide new services beyond communication and to become more resilient. Sensors at the network infrastructure, sensors on the user equipment, and the sensing capability of the communication signal itself provide a new source of data that connects the physical and radio frequency environments. A wireless network that harnesses all these sensing data can not only enable additional sensing services, but also become more resilient to channel-dependent effects like blockage and better support adaptation in dynamic environments as networks reconfigure. In this paper, we provide a vision for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) networks and an overview of how signal processing, optimization and machine learning techniques can be leveraged to make them a reality in the context of 6G. We also include some examples of the performance of several of these strategies when evaluated using a simulation framework based on a combination of ray tracing measurements and mathematical models that mix the digital and physical worlds.

The term 'Park-level IES' is used to refers to IES of a smaller scale but have high demands for various forms of energy. The proposed planning model considers uncertainties like load demand fluctuations and equipment contingencies, and provides a reliable scheme of equipment selection and sizing for IES investors. Inspired by the unit commitment problem, we formulate an equipment contingency uncertainty set to accurately describe the potential equipment contingencies which happen and can be repaired within a day. Then, a novel and modified nested column-and-constraint generation algorithm is applied to solve this two-stage robust planning model with integer recourse efficiently. In the case study, the role of energy storage system for IES reliability enhancement is analyzed in detail. Computational results demonstrate the advantage of the proposed models over the deterministic planning model in terms of improving reliability.

Directional motion towards a specified destination is a common occurrence in physical processes and human societal activities. Utilizing this prior information can significantly improve the control and predictive performance of system models. This paper primarily focuses on reconstructing linear dynamic system models based on destination constraints in the set-valued framework. We treat destination constraints as inherent information in the state evolution process and employ convex optimization techniques to construct a coherent and robust state model. This refined model effectively captures the impact of destination constraints on the state evolution at each time step. Furthermore, we design an optimal weight matrix for the reconstructed model to ensure smoother and more natural trajectories of state evolution. We also analyze the theoretical guarantee of optimality for this weight matrix and the properties of the reconstructed model. Finally, simulation experiments verify that the reconstructed model has significant advantages over the unconstrained and unoptimized weighted models and constrains the evolution of state trajectories with different starting and ending points.

To maintain high perception performance among connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs), in this paper, we propose an accuracy-aware and resource-efficient raw-level cooperative sensing and computing scheme among CAVs and road-side infrastructure. The scheme enables fined-grained partial raw sensing data selection, transmission, fusion, and processing in per-object granularity, by exploiting the parallelism among object classification subtasks associated with each object. A supervised learning model is trained to capture the relationship between the object classification accuracy and the data quality of selected object sensing data, facilitating accuracy-aware sensing data selection. We formulate an optimization problem for joint sensing data selection, subtask placement and resource allocation among multiple object classification subtasks, to minimize the total resource cost while satisfying the delay and accuracy requirements. A genetic algorithm based iterative solution is proposed for the optimization problem. Simulation results demonstrate the accuracy awareness and resource efficiency achieved by the proposed cooperative sensing and computing scheme, in comparison with benchmark solutions.

Validating and controlling safety-critical systems in uncertain environments necessitates probabilistic reachable sets of future state evolutions. The existing methods of computing probabilistic reachable sets normally assume that the uncertainties are independent of the state. However, this assumption falls short in many real-world applications, where uncertainties are state-dependent, referred to as contextual uncertainties. This paper formulates the problem of computing probabilistic reachable sets of stochastic nonlinear states with contextual uncertainties by seeking minimum-volume polynomial sublevel sets with contextual chance constraints. The formulated problem cannot be solved by the existing sample-based approximation method since the existing methods do not consider the conditional probability densities. To address this, we propose a consistent sample approximation of the original problem by leveraging the conditional density estimation and resampling. The obtained approximate problem is a tractable optimization problem. Additionally, we prove the almost uniform convergence of the proposed sample-based approximation, showing that it gives the optimal solution almost consistently with the original ones. Through a numerical example, we evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method against existing approaches, highlighting its capability to significantly reduce the bias inherent in sample-based approximation without considering a conditional probability density.

Existing explanation results of functional connectivity (FC) are normally generated by using classification result labels and correlation analysis methods such as Pearson's correlation or gradient backward. However, the diagnostic model is still trained on the black box model and might lack the attention of FCs in important regions during the training. To enhance the explainability and improve diagnostic performance, providing prior knowledge on neurodegeneration-related regions when healthy subjects (HC) develop into subject cognitive decline (SCD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) for the diagnostic model is a key step. To better determine the neurodegeneration-related regions, we employ counterfactual reasoning to generate the target label FC matrices derived from source label FC and then subtract source label FC with target label FC. The counterfactual reasoning architecture is constructed by adaptive forward and backward transformer generative adversarial network (AFBT GAN), which is specifically designed by network property in FC and inverse patch embedding operation in the transformer. The specific design can make the model focus more on the current network correlation and employ the global insight of the transformer to reconstruct FC, which both help the generation of high-quality target label FC. The validation experiments are conducted on both clinical and public datasets, the generated attention map are both vital correlated to cognitive function and the diagnostic performance is also significant. The code is available at https://github.com/SXR3015/AFBT-GAN.

Neural representations induced by naturalistic stimuli offer insights into how humans respond to peripheral stimuli in daily life. The key to understanding the general neural mechanisms underlying naturalistic stimuli processing involves aligning neural activities across individuals and extracting inter-subject shared neural representations. Targeting the Electroencephalogram (EEG) technique, known for its rich spatial and temporal information, this study presents a general framework for Contrastive Learning of Shared SpatioTemporal EEG Representations across individuals (CL-SSTER). Harnessing the representational capabilities of contrastive learning, CL-SSTER utilizes a neural network to maximize the similarity of EEG representations across individuals for identical stimuli, contrasting with those for varied stimuli. The network employed spatial and temporal convolutions to simultaneously learn the spatial and temporal patterns inherent in EEG. The versatility of CL-SSTER was demonstrated on three EEG datasets, including a synthetic dataset, a speech audio EEG dataset, and an emotional video EEG dataset. CL-SSTER attained the highest inter-subject correlation (ISC) values compared to the state-of-the-art ISC methods. The latent representations generated by CL-SSTER exhibited reliable spatiotemporal EEG patterns, which can be explained by specific aspects of the stimuli. CL-SSTER serves as an interpretable and scalable foundational framework for the identification of inter-subject shared neural representations in the realm of naturalistic neuroscience.

We present a novel multi-vehicle parking simulator, equipped with hierarchical path planning and collision avoidance capabilities for individual CAVs. The simulator is designed to capture the key decision-making processes in parking, from low-level vehicle control to high-level parking assignment, and it enables the effective assessment of parking strategies for large fleets of ground vehicles. We formulate and compare different strategic parking spot assignments to minimize a collective cost. While the proposed framework is designed to optimize various objective functions, we choose the total parking time for the experiment, as it is closely related to the reduction of vehicles' energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategies through empirical evaluation against a dataset of real-world parking lot dynamics, realizing a substantial reduction in parking time by up to 43.8%. This improvement is attributed to the synergistic benefits of driving automation, the utilization of shared infrastructure state data, the exclusion of pedestrian traffic, and the real-time computation of optimal parking spot allocation.

Delayless noise control is achieved by our earlier generative fixed-filter active noise control (GFANC) framework through efficient coordination between the co-processor and real-time controller. However, the one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D CNN) in the co-processor requires initial training using labelled noise datasets. Labelling noise data can be resource-intensive and may introduce some biases. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised-GFANC approach to simplify the 1D CNN training process and enhance its practicality. During training, the co-processor and real-time controller are integrated into an end-to-end differentiable ANC system. This enables us to use the accumulated squared error signal as the loss for training the 1D CNN. With this unsupervised learning paradigm, the unsupervised-GFANC method not only omits the labelling process but also exhibits better noise reduction performance compared to the supervised GFANC method in real noise experiments.

This paper introduces the ASTARS to assist non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) communications, where the stochastic geometry theory is used to model the spatial positions of pairing users. We design the independent reflection/transmission phase-shift controllers of ASTARS to align the phases of cascaded channels at pairing users. We derive new closed-form and asymptotic expressions of the outage probability and ergodic data rate for ASTARS-NOMA networks in the presence of perfect/imperfect successive interference cancellation (pSIC). The diversity orders and multiplexing gains for ASTARS-NOMA are derived to provide more insights. Furthermore, the system throughputs of ASTARS-NOMA are investigated in both delay-tolerant and delay-limited transmission modes. The numerical results are presented and show that: 1) ASTARS-NOMA with pSIC outperforms ASTARS assisted-orthogonal multiple access (ASTARS-OMA) in terms of outage probability and ergodic data rate; 2) The outage probability of ASTARS-NOMA can be further reduced within a certain range by increasing the power amplification factors; 3) The system throughputs of ASTARS-NOMA are superior to that of ASTARS-OMA in both delay-limited and delay-tolerant transmission modes.

Multicast short video streaming can enhance bandwidth utilization by enabling simultaneous video transmission to multiple users over shared wireless channels. The existing network management schemes mainly rely on the sequential buffering principle and general quality of experience (QoE) model, which may deteriorate QoE when users' swipe behaviors exhibit distinct spatiotemporal variation. In this paper, we propose a digital twin (DT)-based network management scheme to enhance QoE. Firstly, user status emulated by the DT is utilized to estimate the transmission capabilities and watching probability distributions of sub-multicast groups (SMGs) for an adaptive segment buffering. The SMGs' buffers are aligned to the unique virtual buffers managed by the DT for a fine-grained buffer update. Then, a multicast QoE model consisting of rebuffering time, video quality, and quality variation is developed, by considering the mutual influence of segment buffering among SMGs. Finally, a joint optimization problem of segment version selection and slot division is formulated to maximize QoE. To efficiently solve the problem, a data-model-driven algorithm is proposed by integrating a convex optimization method and a deep reinforcement learning algorithm. Simulation results based on the real-world dataset demonstrate that the proposed DT-based network management scheme outperforms benchmark schemes in terms of QoE improvement.

Cooperative perception (CP) is a key technology to facilitate consistent and accurate situational awareness for connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs). To tackle the network resource inefficiency issue in traditional broadcast-based CP, unicast-based CP has been proposed to associate CAV pairs for cooperative perception via vehicle-to-vehicle transmission. In this paper, we investigate unicast-based CP among CAV pairs. With the consideration of dynamic perception workloads and channel conditions due to vehicle mobility and dynamic radio resource availability, we propose an adaptive cooperative perception scheme for CAV pairs in a mixed-traffic autonomous driving scenario with both CAVs and human-driven vehicles. We aim to determine when to switch between cooperative perception and stand-alone perception for each CAV pair, and allocate communication and computing resources to cooperative CAV pairs for maximizing the computing efficiency gain under perception task delay requirements. Early diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and subjective cognitive decline (SCD) utilizing multi-modal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a pivotal area of research. While various regional and connectivity features from functional MRI (fMRI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) have been employed to develop diagnosis models, most studies integrate these features without adequately addressing their alignment and interactions. HA-HI efficiently learns significant MCI- or SCD- related regional and connectivity features by aligning various feature types and hierarchically maximizing their interactions. Furthermore, to enhance the interpretability of our approach, we have developed the Synergistic Activation Map (SAM) technique, revealing the critical brain regions and connections that are indicative of MCI/SCD. Comprehensive evaluations on the ADNI dataset and our self-collected data demonstrate that HA-HI outperforms other existing methods in diagnosing MCI and SCD, making it a potentially vital and interpretable tool for early detection. The implementation of this method is publicly accessible at https://github.com/ICI-BCI/Dual-MRI-HA-HI.git.

The designing of efficient signal detectors is important and yet challenge for orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) systems in high-mobility scenarios. In this letter, we develop an efficient message feedback interference cancellation aided unitary approximate message passing (denoted as UAMPMFIC) iterative detector, where the latest feedback messages from variable nodes are utilized for more reliable interference cancellation and performance improvement. A fast recursive scheme is leveraged in the proposed UAMP-MFIC detector to prevent complexity increasing. To further alleviate the error-propagation and improve the receiver performance, we also develop the bidirectional symbol detection structures, where Turbo UAMP-MFIC detector and iterative weight UAMP-MFIC detector are proposed to efficiently fuse the estimation results of forward and backward UAMP-MFIC detectors. The simulation results are finally provided to demonstrate performance improvement of our proposed detectors over existing detectors.

This paper proposes a collaborative planning model for the active distribution network (ADN) and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that fully considers the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) function and reactive power support of EVs in different regions. This paper employs a sequential decomposition method based on the physical characteristics of the problem, breaking down the holistic problem into two sub-problems for solution. Subproblem I optimizes the charging and discharging behavior of the autopilot electric vehicles (AEVs) using a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model. Subproblem II uses a mixed-integer second-order cone programming (MISOCP) model to plan the ADN and retrofit or construct V2G charging stations (V2GCS), as well as multiple distributed generation resources (DGRs). The paper also analyzes the impact of the bi-directional active-reactive power interaction of V2GCS on ADN planning. The presented model was tested in the 47 nodes ADN in Longgang District, Shenzhen, China, and the IEEE 33 nodes ADN, demonstrating that decomposition can significantly improve the speed of solving large-scale problems while maintaining accuracy with low AEV penetration.

Space situational awareness demands efficient monitoring of terrestrial sites and celestial bodies, necessitating advanced target recognition systems. Current target recognition systems exhibit limited operational speed due to challenges in handling substantial image data. While machine learning has improved this scenario, highresolution images remain a concern. Optical correlators, relying on analog processes, provide a potential alternative but are hindered by material limitations. Recent advancements in hybrid opto-electronic correlators (HOC) have addressed such limitations, additionally achieving shift, scale, and rotation invariant (SSRI) target recognition through use of the polar Mellin transform (PMT). However, there are currently no techniques for obtaining the PMT at speeds fast enough to take advantage of the inherent speed of the HOC. To that end, we demonstrate an optoelectronic PMT pre-processor that can operate at record-breaking millisecond frame rates using commercially available components for use in an automated SSRI HOC image recognition system for space situational awareness.

In this paper, we present a novel content caching and delivery approach for mobile virtual reality (VR) video streaming. The proposed approach aims to maximize VR video streaming performance, i.e., minimizing video frame missing rate, by proactively caching popular VR video chunks and adaptively scheduling computing resources at an edge server based on user and network dynamics. First, we design a scalable content placement scheme for deciding which video chunks to cache at the edge server based on tradeoffs between computing and caching resource consumption. Second, we propose a machine learning-assisted VR video delivery scheme, which allocates computing resources at the edge server to satisfy video delivery requests from multiple VR headsets. A Whittle index-based method is adopted to reduce the video frame missing rate by identifying network and user dynamics with low signaling overhead. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach can significantly improve VR video streaming performance over conventional caching and computing resource scheduling strategies.

Emotion Recognition in Conversation (ERC) plays an important role in driving the development of human-machine interaction. Emotions can exist in multiple modalities, and multimodal ERC mainly faces two problems: (1) the noise problem in the cross-modal information fusion process, and (2) the prediction problem of less sample emotion labels that are semantically similar but different categories. To address these issues and fully utilize the features of each modality, we adopted the following strategies: first, deep emotion cues extraction was performed on modalities with strong representation ability, and feature filters were designed as multimodal prompt information for modalities with weak representation ability. Then, we designed a Multimodal Prompt Transformer (MPT) to perform cross-modal information fusion. MPT embeds multimodal fusion information into each attention layer of the Transformer, allowing prompt information to participate in encoding textual features and being fused with multi-level textual information to obtain better multimodal fusion features. Finally, we used the Hybrid Contrastive Learning (HCL) strategy to optimize the model's ability to handle labels with few samples. This strategy uses unsupervised contrastive learning to improve the representation ability of multimodal fusion and supervised contrastive learning to mine the information of labels with few samples. Experimental results show that our proposed model outperforms state-of-the-art models in ERC on two benchmark datasets.

As generative artificial intelligence (GAI) models continue to evolve, their generative capabilities are increasingly enhanced and being used extensively in content generation. Beyond this, GAI also excels in data modeling and analysis, benefitting wireless communication systems. In this article, we investigate applications of GAI in the physical layer and analyze its support for integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) systems. Specifically, we first provide an overview of GAI and ISAC, touching on GAI's potential support across multiple layers of ISAC. We then concentrate on the physical layer, investigating GAI's applications from various perspectives thoroughly, such as channel estimation, and demonstrate the value of these GAI-enhanced physical layer technologies for ISAC systems. In the case study, the proposed diffusion model-based method effectively estimates the signal direction of arrival under the near-field condition based on the uniform linear array, when antenna spacing surpassing half the wavelength. With a mean square error of 1.03 degrees, it confirms GAI's support for the physical layer in near-field sensing and communications.

Cell-free (CF) massive multiple-input multiple-output (mMIMO) and reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), also called intelligent reflecting surface (IRS), are two promising technologies for coping with these unprecedented demands. Given their distinct capabilities, integrating the two technologies to further enhance wireless network performances has received great research and development attention. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive survey of research on RIS-aided CF mMIMO wireless communication systems. We first introduce system models focusing on system architecture and application scenarios, channel models, and communication protocols. Patients resuscitated from cardiac arrest who enter a coma are at high risk of death. Forecasting neurological outcomes of these patients (the task of neurological prognostication) could help with treatment decisions. In this paper, we propose, to the best of our knowledge, the first dynamic framework for neurological prognostication of post-cardiac-arrest comatose patients using EEG data: our framework makes predictions for a patient over time as more EEG data become available, and different training patients' available EEG time series could vary in length. Predictions are phrased in terms of either time-to-event outcomes (time-to-awakening or time-to-death) or as the patient's probability of awakening or of dying across multiple time horizons. Our framework uses any dynamic survival analysis model that supports competing risks in the form of estimating patient-level cumulative incidence functions. We consider three competing risks as to what happens first to a patient: awakening, being withdrawn from life-sustaining therapies (and thus deterministically dying), or dying (by other causes). We demonstrate our framework by benchmarking three existing dynamic survival analysis models that support competing risks on a real dataset of 922 patients. Our main experimental findings are that: (1) the classical Fine and Gray model which only uses a patient's static features and summary statistics from the patient's latest hour's worth of EEG data is highly competitive, achieving accuracy scores as high as the recently developed Dynamic-DeepHit model that uses substantially more of the patient's EEG data; and (2) in an ablation study, we show that our choice of modeling three competing risks results in a model that is at least as accurate while learning more information than simpler models (using two competing risks or a standard survival analysis setup with no competing risks).

While network slicing has become a prevalent approach to service differentiation, radio access network (RAN) slicing remains challenging due to the need of substantial adaptivity and flexibility to cope with the highly dynamic network environment in RANs. In this paper, we develop a slicing-based resource management framework for a two-tier RAN to support multiple services with different quality of service (QoS) requirements. The developed framework focuses on base station (BS) service coverage (SC) and interference management for multiple slices, each of which corresponds to a service. New designs are introduced in the spatial, temporal, and slice dimensions to cope with spatiotemporal variations in data traffic, balance adaptivity and overhead of resource management, and enhance flexibility in service differentiation. Based on the proposed framework, an energy efficiency maximization problem is formulated, and an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted approach is proposed to solve the problem. Specifically, a deep unsupervised learning-assisted algorithm is proposed for searching the optimal SC of the BSs, and an optimization-based analytical solution is found for managing interference among BSs. Simulation results under different data traffic distributions demonstrate that our proposed slicing-based resource management framework, empowered by the AI-assisted approach, outperforms the benchmark frameworks and achieves a close-to-optimal performance in energy efficiency.

Structured pruning and quantization are promising approaches for reducing the inference time and memory footprint of neural networks. However, most existing methods require the original training dataset to fine-tune the model. This not only brings heavy resource consumption but also is not possible for applications with sensitive or proprietary data due to privacy and security concerns. Therefore, a few data-free methods are proposed to address this problem, but they perform data-free pruning and quantization separately, which does not explore the complementarity of pruning and quantization. In this paper, we propose a novel framework named Unified Data-Free Compression(UDFC), which performs pruning and quantization simultaneously without any data and fine-tuning process. Specifically, UDFC starts with the assumption that the partial information of a damaged(e.g., pruned or quantized) channel can be preserved by a linear combination of other channels, and then derives the reconstruction form from the assumption to restore the information loss due to compression. Finally, we formulate the reconstruction error between the original network and its compressed network, and theoretically deduce the closed-form solution. We evaluate the UDFC on the large-scale image classification task and obtain significant improvements over various network architectures and compression methods. For example, we achieve a 20.54% accuracy improvement on ImageNet dataset compared to SOTA method with 30% pruning ratio and 6-bit quantization on ResNet-34.

Different from onshore microgrids, offshore microgrids (OM) are usually abundant in ocean renewable energy (ORE), such as offshore wind, tidal power generation (TPG), etc. Moreover, some special loads such as seawater desalination unit (SDU) should be included. In this sense, this paper proposes a planning method for OM to minimize the investment cost while the ORE's fluctuation could be accommodated with robustness. First, a deterministic planning model (DPM) is formulated for the OM with TPG and SDU. A robust planning model (RPM) is then developed considering the uncertainties from both TPG and load demand. The Column-and-constraint generation (C&CG) algorithm is then employed to solve the RPM, producing planning results for the OM that is robust against the worst scenario. Results of the case studies show that the investment and operation decisions of the proposed model are robust, and TPG shows good complementarity with the other RESs.

In this paper, we consider a way to safely navigate the robots in unknown environments using measurement data from sensory devices. The control barrier function (CBF) is one of the promising approaches to encode safety requirements of the system and the recent progress on learning-based approaches for CBF realizes online synthesis of CBF-based safe controllers with sensor measurements. However, the existing methods are inefficient in the sense that the trained CBF cannot be generalized to different environments and the re-synthesis of the controller is necessary when changes in the environment occur. Thus, this paper considers a way to learn CBF that can quickly adapt to a new environment with few amount of data by utilizing the currently developed Bayesian meta-learning framework. The proposed scheme realizes efficient online synthesis of the controller as shown in the simulation study and provides probabilistic safety guarantees on the resulting controller.

Multichannel active noise control (MCANC) is widely utilized to achieve significant noise cancellation area in the complicated acoustic field. Meanwhile, the filter-x least mean square (FxLMS) algorithm gradually becomes the benchmark solution for the implementation of MCANC due to its low computational complexity. However, its slow convergence speed more or less undermines the performance of dealing with quickly varying disturbances, such as piling noise. Furthermore, the noise power variation also deteriorates the robustness of the algorithm when it adopts the fixed step size. To solve these issues, we integrated the normalized multichannel FxLMS with the momentum method, which hence, effectively avoids the interference of the primary noise power and accelerates the convergence of the algorithm. To validate its effectiveness, we deployed this algorithm in a multichannel noise control window to control the real machine noise.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has been proposed as a promising paradigm in the future wireless networks, where the spectral and hardware resources are shared to provide a considerable performance gain. It is essential to understand how sensing and communication (S\&C) influences each other to guide the practical algorithm and system design in ISAC. In this paper, we investigate the performance tradeoff between S\&C in a single-input single-output (SISO) ISAC system with finite blocklength. In particular, we present the system model and the ISAC scheme, after which the rate-error tradeoff is introduced as the performance metric. Then we derive the achievability and converse bounds for the rate-error tradeoff, determining the boundary of the joint S\&C performance. Furthermore, we develop the asymptotic analysis at large blocklength regime, where the performance tradeoff between S\&C is proved to vanish as the blocklength tends to infinity. Finally, our theoretical analysis is consolidated by simulation results.

This paper presents some recent algorithms developed by the authors for real-time adaptive active noise (AANC) control systems. These algorithms address some of the common challenges faced by AANC systems, such as speaker saturation, system divergence, and disturbance rejection. Speaker saturation can introduce nonlinearity into the adaptive system and degrade the noise reduction performance. System divergence can occur when the secondary speaker units are over-amplified or when there is a disturbance other than the noise to be controlled. Disturbance rejection is important to prevent the adaptive system from adapting to unwanted signals. The paper provides guidelines for implementing and operating real-time AANC systems based on these algorithms.

Identifying causal relationships among distinct brain areas, known as effective connectivity, holds key insights into the brain's information processing and cognitive functions. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals exhibit intricate dynamics and inter-areal interactions within the brain. However, methods for characterizing nonlinear causal interactions among multiple brain regions remain relatively underdeveloped. In this study, we proposed a data-driven framework to infer effective connectivity by perturbing the trained neural networks. Specifically, we trained neural networks (i.e., CNN, vanilla RNN, GRU, LSTM, and Transformer) to predict future EEG signals according to historical data and perturbed the networks' input to obtain effective connectivity (EC) between the perturbed EEG channel and the rest of the channels. The EC reflects the causal impact of perturbing one node on others. The performance was tested on the synthetic EEG generated by a biological-plausible Jansen-Rit model. CNN and Transformer obtained the best performance on both 3-channel and 90-channel synthetic EEG data, outperforming the classical Granger causality method. Our work demonstrated the potential of perturbing an artificial neural network, learned to predict future system dynamics, to uncover the underlying causal structure.

Hyperspectral anomaly detection (HAD) aims to recognize a minority of anomalies that are spectrally different from their surrounding background without prior knowledge. Deep neural networks (DNNs), including autoencoders (AEs), convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and vision transformers (ViTs), have shown remarkable performance in this field due to their powerful ability to model the complicated background. However, for reconstruction tasks, DNNs tend to incorporate both background and anomalies into the estimated background, which is referred to as the identical mapping problem (IMP) and leads to significantly decreased performance. To address this limitation, we propose a model-independent binary mask-guided separation training strategy for DNNs, named BiGSeT. Our method introduces a separation training loss based on a latent binary mask to separately constrain the background and anomalies in the estimated image. The background is preserved, while the potential anomalies are suppressed by using an efficient second-order Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG) operator, generating a pure background estimate. In order to maintain separability during training, we periodically update the mask using a robust proportion threshold estimated before the training. In our experiments, We adopt a vanilla AE as the network to validate our training strategy on several real-world datasets. Our results show superior performance compared to some state-of-the-art methods. Specifically, we achieved a 90.67% AUC score on the HyMap Cooke City dataset. Additionally, we applied our training strategy to other deep network structures, achieving improved detection performance compared to their original versions, demonstrating its effective transferability. To meet the millisecond-level timeliness and scalability required for the dynamic network environment, our proposed approach incorporates the deep unrolling of the weighted minimum mean square error (WMMSE) algorithm, referred to as domain knowledge, into GNN, thereby reducing computational delay and sample complexity while adapting to various data distributions. This paper proposes an online secondary path modelling (SPM) technique to improve the performance of the modified filtered reference Least Mean Square (FXLMS) algorithm. It can effectively respond to a time-varying secondary path, which refers to the path from a secondary source to an error sensor. Unlike traditional methods, the proposed approach switches modes between adaptive ANC and online SPM, eliminating the use of destabilizing components such as auxiliary white noise or additional filters, which can negatively impact the complexity, stability, and noise reduction performance of the ANC system. The system operates in adaptive ANC mode until divergence is detected due to secondary path changes. At this moment, it switches to SPM mode until the path is remodeled and then returns to ANC mode. Furthermore, numerical simulations in the paper demonstrate that the proposed online technique effectively copes with the secondary path variations.

Deep learning has been successfully adopted in mobile edge computing (MEC) to optimize task offloading and resource allocation. However, the dynamics of edge networks raise two challenges in neural network (NN)-based optimization methods: low scalability and high training costs. Although conventional node-output graph neural networks (GNN) can extract features of edge nodes when the network scales, they fail to handle a new scalability issue whereas the dimension of the decision space may change as the network scales. To address the issue, in this paper, a novel link-output GNN (LOGNN)-based resource management approach is proposed to flexibly optimize the resource allocation in MEC for an arbitrary number of edge nodes with extremely low algorithm inference delay. Moreover, a label-free unsupervised method is applied to train the LOGNN efficiently, where the gradient of edge tasks processing delay with respect to the LOGNN parameters is derived explicitly. In addition, a theoretical analysis of the scalability of the node-output GNN and link-output GNN is performed. Simulation results show that the proposed LOGNN can efficiently optimize the MEC resource allocation problem in a scalable way, with an arbitrary number of servers and users. In addition, the proposed unsupervised training method has better convergence performance and speed than supervised learning and reinforcement learning-based training methods. The code is available at \url{https://github.com/UNIC-Lab/LOGNN}.

Diffusion models (DMs) have recently gained attention with state-of-the-art performance in text-to-image synthesis. Abiding by the tradition in deep learning, DMs are trained and evaluated on the images with fixed sizes. However, users are demanding for various images with specific sizes and various aspect ratio. This paper focuses on adapting text-to-image diffusion models to handle such variety while maintaining visual fidelity. First we observe that, during the synthesis, lower resolution images suffer from incomplete object portrayal, while higher resolution images exhibit repetitively disordered presentation. Next, we establish a statistical relationship indicating that attention entropy changes with token quantity, suggesting that models aggregate spatial information in proportion to image resolution. The subsequent interpretation on our observations is that objects are incompletely depicted due to limited spatial information for low resolutions, while repetitively disorganized presentation arises from redundant spatial information for high resolutions. From this perspective, we propose a scaling factor to alleviate the change of attention entropy and mitigate the defective pattern observed. Extensive experimental results validate the efficacy of the proposed scaling factor, enabling models to achieve better visual effects, image quality, and text alignment. Notably, these improvements are achieved without additional training or fine-tuning techniques.

In this paper, we propose a digital twin (DT)-assisted resource demand prediction scheme to enhance prediction accuracy for multicast short video streaming. Particularly, we construct user DTs (UDTs) for collecting real-time user status, including channel condition, location, watching duration, and preference. A reinforcement learning-empowered K-means++ algorithm is developed to cluster users based on the collected user status in UDTs, which can effectively employ the mined users' intrinsic correlation to improve the accuracy of user clustering. We then analyze users' video watching duration and preferences in each multicast group to obtain the swiping probability distribution and recommended videos, respectively. The obtained information is utilized to predict radio and computing resource demand of each multicast group. Initial results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can effectively abstract multicast groups' swiping probability distributions for accurate resource demand prediction.

This work presents a novel hierarchical approach to increase Battery Electric Buses (BEBs) utilization in transit fleets. The proposed approach relies on three key components. A learning-based BEB digital twin cloud platform is used to accurately predict BEB charge consumption on a per vehicle, per driver, and per route basis, and accurately predict the time-to-charge BEB batteries to any level. These predictions are then used by a Predictive Block Assignment module to maximize the BEB fleet utilization. This module computes the optimal BEB daily assignment and charge management strategy. A Depot Parking and Charging Queue Management module is used to autonomously park and charge the vehicles based on their charging demands. The paper discusses the technical approach and benefits of each level in architecture and concludes with a realistic simulations study. The study shows that if our approach is employed, BEB fleet utilization can increase by 50% compared to state-of-the-art methods.

With the development of offshore wind farms (OWFs) in far-offshore and deep-sea areas, each OWF could contain more and more wind turbines and cables, making it imperative to study high-reliability electrical collector system (ECS) for OWF. Enlightened by active distribution network, for OWF, we propose an ECS switch configuration that enables post-fault network recovery, along with a reliability assessment (RA) method based on optimization models. It can also determine the optimal normal state and network reconfiguration strategies to maximize ECS reliability. Case studies on several OWFs demonstrate that the proposed RA method is more computationally efficient and accurate than the traditional sequential Monte-Carlo simulation method. Moreover, the proposed switch configuration, in conjunction with the network reconfiguration strategy and proper topology, provides significant benefits to ECS reliability.

Multimodality eye disease screening is crucial in ophthalmology as it integrates information from diverse sources to complement their respective performances. However, the existing methods are weak in assessing the reliability of each unimodality, and directly fusing an unreliable modality may cause screening errors. To address this issue, we introduce a novel multimodality evidential fusion pipeline for eye disease screening, EyeMoSt, which provides a measure of confidence for unimodality and elegantly integrates the multimodality information from a multi-distribution fusion perspective. Specifically, our model estimates both local uncertainty for unimodality and global uncertainty for the fusion modality to produce reliable classification results. More importantly, the proposed mixture of Student's $t$ distributions adaptively integrates different modalities to endow the model with heavy-tailed properties, increasing robustness and reliability. Our experimental findings on both public and in-house datasets show that our model is more reliable than current methods. Additionally, EyeMost has the potential ability to serve as a data quality discriminator, enabling reliable decision-making for multimodality eye disease screening.

By assigning the massive computing tasks of the traditional multichannel active noise control (MCANC) system to several distributed control nodes, distributed multichannel active noise control (DMCANC) techniques have become effective global noise reduction solutions with low computational costs. However, existing DMCANC algorithms simply complete the distribution of traditional centralized algorithms by combining neighbour nodes' information but rarely consider the degraded control performance and system stability of distributed units caused by delays and interruptions in communication. Hence, this paper develops a novel DMCANC algorithm that utilizes the compensation filters and neighbour nodes' information to counterbalance the cross-talk effect between channels while maintaining independent weight updating. Since the neighbours' information required barely affects the local control filter updating in each node, this approach can tolerate communication delay and interruption to some extent. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can achieve satisfactory noise reduction performance and high robustness to real-world communication challenges.

Active noise control (ANC) has been widely utilized to reduce unwanted environmental noise. The primary objective of ANC is to generate an anti-noise with the same amplitude but the opposite phase of the primary noise using the secondary source. However, the effectiveness of the ANC application is impacted by the speaker's output saturation. This paper proposes a two-gradient direction ANC algorithm with a momentum factor to solve the saturation with faster convergence. In order to make it implemented in real-time, a computation-effective variable step size approach is applied to further reduce the steady-state error brought on by the changing gradient directions. The time constant and step size bound for the momentum two-gradient direction algorithm is analyzed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm performs effectively in the time-unvaried and time-varied environment.

Due to the slow convergence and poor tracking ability, conventional LMS-based adaptive algorithms are less capable of handling dynamic noises. Selective fixed-filter active noise control (SFANC) can significantly reduce response time by selecting appropriate pre-trained control filters for different noises. Nonetheless, the limited number of pre-trained control filters may affect noise reduction performance, especially when the incoming noise differs much from the initial noises during pre-training. Therefore, a generative fixed-filter active noise control (GFANC) method is proposed in this paper to overcome the limitation. Based on deep learning and a perfect-reconstruction filter bank, the GFANC method only requires a few prior data (one pre-trained broadband control filter) to automatically generate suitable control filters for various noises. The efficacy of the GFANC method is demonstrated by numerical simulations on real-recorded noises.
