Monte Carlo Event Generators are important tools for the understanding of physics at particle colliders like the LHC. In order to best predict a wide variety of observables, the optimization of parameters in the Event Generators based on precision data is crucial. However, the simultaneous optimization of many parameters is computationally challenging. We present an algorithm that allows to tune Monte Carlo Event Generators for high dimensional parameter spaces. To achieve this we first split the parameter space algorithmically in subspaces and perform a Professor tuning on the subspaces with bin wise weights to enhance the influence of relevant observables. We test the algorithm in ideal conditions and in real life examples including tuning of the event generators Herwig 7 and Pythia 8 for LEP observables. Further, we tune parts of the Herwig 7 event generator with the Lund string model.

We perform a phenomenological study of $Z$ plus jet, Higgs plus jet and di-jet production at the Large Hadron Collider. We investigate in particular the dependence of the leading jet cross section on the jet radius as a function of the jet transverse momentum. We perform a phenomenological study of $Z$ plus jet, Higgs plus jet and di-jet production at the Large Hadron Collider. We investigate in particular the dependence of the leading jet cross section on the jet radius as a function of the jet transverse momentum. Theoretical predictions are obtained using perturbative QCD calculations at the next-to and next-to-next-to-leading order, using a range of renormalization and factorization scales. The fixed order predictions are compared to results obtained from matching next-to-leading order calculations to parton showers. A study of the scale dependence as a function of the jet radius is used to provide a better estimate of the scale uncertainty for small jet sizes. The non-perturbative corrections as a function of jet radius are estimated from different generators.

PISTA: Posterior Ion STAcking

Abstract:
We present a program allowing for the construction of a heavy ion Monte Carlo event using a general purpose proton--proton event generator of the users' choice to deliver sub--collisions. In this heavy ion event, one or more jets can be added, again using a jet calculation of the users' choice, allowing for more realistic simulation studies of jets in a heavy ion background.

Colour Rearrangement for Dipole Showers
Authors:

Abstract:
We present an algorithm to rearrange the colour chains of dipole showers in the shower process according to the colour amplitudes of a simple matrix element. We implement the procedure in the dipole shower of Herwig and show comparisons to data.

This Report summarizes the results of the activities of the LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group in the period 2014-2016. The main goal of the working group was to present the state-of-the-art of Higgs physics at the LHC, integrating all new results that have appeared in the last few years. The first part compiles the most up-to-date predictions of Higgs boson production cross sections and decay branching ratios, parton distribution functions, and off-shell Higgs boson production and interference effects. The second part discusses the recent progress in Higgs effective field theory predictions, followed by the third part on pseudo-observables, simplified template cross section and fiducial cross section measurements, which give the baseline framework for Higgs boson property measurements. The fourth part deals with the beyond the Standard Model predictions of various benchmark scenarios of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, extended scalar sector, Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and exotic Higgs boson decays. This report follows three previous working-group reports: Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002), Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. Differential Distributions (CERN-2012-002), and Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 3. Higgs properties (CERN-2013-004). The current report serves as the baseline reference for Higgs physics in LHC Run 2 and beyond.

Furthermore, Higgs boson plus two jet production via gluon fusion at the one-loop level is included. This note briefly describes the main additional features and processes that have been added in the new release -- VBFNLO Version 2.7.0.
At NLO QCD several new processes are available. These are $W^\pmγ$ and $HH$ production in VBF, the QCD-induced single and double vector boson plus two jets processes $W^\pm jj$, $W^\pm Zjj$, $W^\pmγjj$, same-sign $W^\pm W^\pm jj$, and the Higgs-strahlung process $W^\pm H$ (plus jet) production. Anomalous couplings are now available for all VBF, diboson and triboson (plus jet) processes including the new VBF $W^\pmγjj$ implementation, as well as in the Higgs-strahlung (plus jet) process.
Semi-leptonic decay modes are supported for the following diboson, triboson and VBF processes: $VV$, $VVV$, $VVγ$ production and $VV$ production via VBF, where $V$ denotes a massive gauge boson, i.e. $W^\pm$ or $Z$. Additionally, the VBF-Higgs production process with decay into $WW$ or $ZZ$ supports semi-leptonic decays of the gauge bosons. All these semi-leptonic processes contain the possibility to include anomalous gauge boson couplings.

This note briefly describes the main additional features and processes that have been added in the new release -- Vbfnlo Version 2.6.0. At NLO QCD diboson production (Wγ, WZ, ZZ, Zγand γγ), same-sign W pair production via vector boson fusion and the process Wγγj have been implemented (for which one-loop tensor integrals up to six-point functions are included). In addition, gluon induced diboson production can be studied separately at the leading order (one-loop) level. The diboson processes WW, WZ and Wγcan be run with anomalous gauge boson couplings, and anomalous couplings between a Higgs and a pair of gauge bosons is included in WW, ZZ, Zγand γγdiboson production. The code has also been extended to include anomalous gauge boson couplings for single vector boson production via VBF, and a spin-2 model has been implemented for diboson pair production via vector boson fusion.
