The LHC has the potential not only to discover supersymmetry (SUSY), but also to permit fairly precise measurements of at least a portion of the sparticle spectrum. Proposed mass reconstruction methods rely upon either inverting invariant mass endpoint expressions or upon solving systems of mass-shell equations. These methodologies suffer from the weakness that one certain specific sparticle decay chain is assumed to account for all the events in the sample. Taking two examples of techniques utilizing mass-shell equations, it is found that also applying the wedgebox technique allows for the isolation of a purer event sample, thus avoiding errors, possibly catastrophic, due to mistaken assumptions about the decay chains involved and simultaneously improving accuracy. What is innovative is using endpoint measurements (via the wedgebox technique) to obtain a more homogeneous, well-understood sample set rather than just using said endpoints to constrain the values of the masses (here found by the mass-shell technique). The fusion of different established techniques in this manner represents a highly profitable option for LHC experimentalists who will soon have data to analyze.

Heretofore neglected decay modes of heavy MSSM Higgs bosons into a variety of neutralino pairs may push the LHC discovery reach for these crucial elements of an extended Higgs sector to nearly the TeV-scale -- if sparticle-sector MSSM input parameters are favorable. This is well into the so-called decoupling region, including moderate to low tan(beta) values, where no known signals exist for said heavy Higgs bosons via decays involving solely SM daughter particles, and the lighter h^0 mimics the lone SM Higgs boson. While the expanse of the Higgs to sparticle discovery region is sensitive to a number of MSSM parameters, including in particular those for the sleptons, its presence is primarily linked to the gaugino inputs -- in fact, to just one parameter, M_2, if gaugino unification is invoked. Thus consideration of high vs. low M_2 realms in the MSSM should be placed on a par with the extensive consideration already given to high vs. low tan(beta) regimes.

In particular, H^0,A^0 bosons with quite heavy masses, approaching ~800 GeV in the so-called `decoupling region' where no clear SM signatures for the heavier MSSM Higgs bosons are known to exist, can now be discerned, for suitable but not particularly restrictive configurations of the low energy supersymmetric parameters. The high M_A discovery reach for the H^0 and A^0 may thus be greatly extended. Full event-generator level simulations, including realistic detector effects and analyses of all significant backgrounds, are performed to delineate the potential H^0,A^0 discovery regions. The wedgebox plot technique is also utilized to further analyze the 4l plus missing transverse energy signal and background events. This study marks the first thorough and reasonably complete analysis of this important class of MSSM Higgs boson signature modes. In fact, this is the first time discovery regions including all possible neutralino and chargino decay modes of the Higgs bosons have ever been mapped out.

`Wedgebox' plots constructed by plotting the di-electron invariant mass versus the di-muon invariant mass from pp -> e^+e^- mu^+ mu^- + missing energy signature LHC events. Data sets of such events are obtained across the MSSM input parameter space in event-generator simulations, including cuts designed to remove SM backgrounds. Their study reveals several general features: (1)Regions in the MSSM input parameter space where a sufficient number of events are expected so as to be able to construct a clear wedgebox plot are delineated. (2)The presence of box shapes on a wedgebox plot either indicates the presence of heavy Higgs bosons decays or restricts the location to a quite small region of low μand M_2 values \lsim 200 GeV, a region denoted as the `lower island'. In this region, wedgebox plots can be quite complicated and change in pattern rather quickly as one moves around in the (μ, M_2) plane. (3)Direct neutralino pair production from an intermediate Z^{0*} may only produce a wedge-shape since only \widetildeχ_2^0\widetildeχ_3^0 decays can contribute significantly. (4)A double-wedge or wedge-protruding-from-a-box pattern on a wedgebox plot, which results from combining a variety of MSSM production processes, yields three distinct observed endpoints, almost always attributable to \widetildeχ_{2,3,4}^0 \to \widetildeχ_1^0 \ell^+\ell^- decays, which can be utilized to determine a great deal of information about the neutralino and slepton mass spectra and related MSSM input parameters. Wedge and double-wedge patterns are seen in wedgebox plots in another region of higher μand M_2 values, denoted as the`upper island.' Here the pattern is simpler and more stable as one moves across the (μ, M_2) input parameter space.

Processes of the form $pp\to anything \to X_i X_j \to x\bar{x} + y\bar{y} (+ \slashchar{E})$ are studied via a technique that may be viewed as an adaptation of time-honoured Dalitz plot analyses. $X_i$ and $X_j$ are new heavy states (with $i,j=1...n$), which may be identical or distinct; and $x\bar{x}$ and $y\bar{y}$ are necessarily distinct Standard Model (SM) fermion pairs whose invariant masses can be measured. A Dalitz-like plot of said invariant masses, $M(x\bar{x})$ {\it vs.$$} $M(y\bar{y})$, exhibits a topology connected to the masses and specific decay chains of $X_i$ and $X_j$. Aside from relatively minor details, observed patterns consist of a collection of box and wedge shapes. This collection is model-dependent: comparison of the observed pattern to the possibilities for a specific model yields information on which new particle pair combinations are actually being produced, information beyond that extractable from conventional one-dimensional invariant mass distributions. The technique is illustrated via application to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) process $pp \to \tilde{g}\tilde{g},\tilde{g}\tilde{q},\tilde{q}\tilde{q} \to \widetildeχ_i^0 \widetildeχ_j^0 \to e^+ e^- + μ^+ μ^- (+ \slashchar{E})$. Here the heavy states are neutralinos $\widetildeχ_i^0$ ($i=2,3,4$) -- note $\widetildeχ_1^0$ is excluded -- which are produced in gluino/squark ($\tilde{g}$/$\tilde{q}$) cascade decay chains. Even with fairly modest expectations for the LHC performance during the first few years, this method still provides substantial insight into the neutralino mass spectrum and couplings if gluino/squark masses are relatively low ($\simeq 400 \hbox{GeV}$).

We perform for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) a detailed study of charged Higgs boson production via the top-bottom quark associated mode followed by decays into a chargino and a neutralino, with masses and couplings as given by the general Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We focus our attention on the region of parameter space where the charged Higgs is heavier than the top quark, with intermediate values of tan beta. In this region, the identification of charged Higgs bosons via decays into Standard Model (SM) particles has proven to be ineffective. Modelling the CMS detector, we find that a signature consisting of three hard leptons accompanied by a hadronically reconstructed top quark plus substantial missing transverse energy, which may result from charged Higgs decays into neutralinos and charginos, can be made viable over a large variety of initially overwhelming SM and MSSM backgrounds, provided MSSM input parameters are favourable: notably, a small mu parameter and light sleptons are important prerequisites. We quantify these statements by performing a fairly extensive scan of the parameter space, including realistic hadron-level simulations, and delineate some potential discovery regions.

We focus our attention on the region of parameter space with $m_{H^{\pm}} > m_t$ and $3 \lsim tan(beta) \lsim 10$, where identification of the $H^{\pm}$ via other decay modes has proven to be ineffective. Searching for means to plug this hole, we simulate the decays $H^{\pm} --> {\tildeχ}_1^{\pm} {\tildeχ}_1^0$ and $H^{\pm} --> {\tildeχ}_1^{\pm} {\tildeχ}_2^0,
{\tildeχ}_1^{\pm} {\tildeχ}_3^0$ --- the former can yield a single hard lepton (from the chargino decay) while the latter can yield three leptons (from the chargino and neutralino decays). Coupled with the dominant top quark + charged Higgs boson production mode, the resulting signature is one or three hard, isolated leptons, substantial missing transverse momentum and a reconstructed (via a 3-jet invariant mass) top quark. The single lepton channel is swamped by background processes; however, with suitable cuts, a trilepton signal emerges. While such a signal suffers from a low number of surviving events (after cuts) and is dependent on several MSSM input parameters (notably $M_2$, $μ$, and slepton masses), it does fill at least some of the void left by previous investigations.

We present a parametrization of the supersymmetric standard model without R-parity that permits efficient phenomenological analyses of the full model without a priori assumptions. Under the parametrization, which is characterized by a single vacuum expectation value for the scalar components of the Y=-1/2 superfields, the expressions for tree-level mass matrices are quite simple. They do not involve the trilinear R-parity violating couplings; however, the bilinear μ_i terms do enter and cannot be set to zero without additional assumptions. We set up a framework for doing phenomenology and show some illustrative results for fermion mass matrices and related bounds on parameters. We find in particular that large values of tan(beta) can suppress R-parity violating effects, substantially weakening experimental constraints.

We argue that Standard Model contributions to this signature are negligible, and examine regions of MSSM parameter space where the four lepton mode should be observable at the Large Hadron Collider. The same signal can also come from continuum neutralino pair production. We propose a set of cuts to illustrate that the neutralino decay mode of the Higgs bosons provides a viable signal over a substantial range of model parameters, and show that it may be separable from continuum neutralino production if sufficient integrated luminosity can be accumulated.
