Due to the similarities between electron-nucleus ($eA$) and neutrino-nucleus scattering ($νA$), $eA$ data can contribute key information to improve cross-section modeling in $eA$ and hence in $νA$ event generators. However, to compare data and generated events, either the data must be radiatively corrected or radiative effects need to be included in the event generators. We implemented a universal radiative corrections program that can be used with all reaction mechanisms and any $eA$ event generator. Our program includes real photon radiation by the incident and scattered electrons, and virtual photon exchange and photon vacuum polarization diagrams. It uses the ``extended peaking" approximation for electron radiation and neglects charged hadron radiation. This method, validated with GENIE, can also be extended to simulate $νA$ radiative effects. This work facilitates data-event-generator comparisons used to improve $νA$ event generators for the next-generation of neutrino experiments.

The electric and magnetic dipole moment of charm and bottom baryons can be measured for the first time by using bent crystal technology at the LHC. The experimental method, proposed in recent years, suffers from limited statistics, which dominates the uncertainty of the measurement. In this work, we present an alternative experimental layout, based on the use of crystal lenses, that improves the trapping efficiency by about a factor 15 (35) for a 2-cm (5-mm) target with respect to the nominal layout, with plain crystal faces. The efficiencies are evaluated taking into account the constraints from the LHC machine, and the technical challenges to realize this novel experimental method are discussed.

Electromagnetic dipole moments of short-lived particles are sensitive to physics within and beyond the Standard Model of particle physics but have not been accessible experimentally to date. To perform such measurements it has been proposed to exploit the spin precession of channeled particles in bent crystals at the LHC. Progress that enables the first measurement of charm baryon dipole moments is reported. In particular, the design and characterization on beam of silicon and germanium bent crystal prototypes, the optimization of the experimental setup, and advanced analysis techniques are discussed. Sensitivity studies show that first measurements of $Λ_c^+$ and $Ξ_c^+$ baryon dipole moments can be performed in two years of data taking with an experimental setup positioned upstream of the LHCb detector.

It can, however, also disintegrate into a $π^-$ meson and a $Λ_c^+$ baryon via $s$ quark decay or via $cs\to d c$ weak scattering. The interplay between the latter two processes governs the size of the branching fraction ${\cal{B}}$$(Ξ_c^0\to π^-Λ_c^+)$, first measured here to be $(0.55\pm 0.02 \pm 0.18)$%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and second systematic. This result is compatible with the larger of the theoretical predictions that connect models of hyperon decays using partially conserved axial currents and SU(3) symmetry with those involving the heavy-quark expansion and heavy-quark symmetry. In addition, the branching fraction of the normalization channel, ${\cal{B}}(Ξ_c^+\to p K^- π^+) = (1.135 \pm 0.002 \pm 0.387)$% is measured.

We study the weak decay of the $Λ_b$ baryon into $J/ψ φ Λ$, a process that is particularly well suited to analyze the physics of some of the recently observed or theoretically predicted exotic hadrons, as one expects to see their signature in all three final two-body channels. In the $J/ψ\, φ$ invariant mass spectrum we study the interplay between the $X(4140)$ and the $X(4160)$ resonances. The $J/ψ\, Λ$ mass spectrum may help to identify the strange partner of the hidden-charm pentaquark recently observed by the LHCb collaboration, the existence of which has been predicted by a chiral unitary approach. We conclude that this strange pentaquark has a good chance of experimental detection if it is present in the range between $4450-4500$ MeV. Finally, in the $φ\, Λ$ spectrum we expect a contribution from a dynamically generated resonance at around $2160$ MeV, but with the present model parameters there is little chance for its experimental detection.

The natural widths of the three lower mass states are consistent with zero, and the 90% confidence-level upper limits are determined to be ${Γ(Ω_b(6316)^-)<2.8}$ MeV, ${Γ(Ω_b(6330)^-)<3.1}$ MeV and ${Γ(Ω_b(6340)^-)<1.5}$ MeV. The natural width of the $Ω_b(6350)^-$ peak is $1.4^{+1.0}_{-0.8}\pm0.1$ MeV, which is 2.5$σ$ from zero and corresponds to an upper limit of 2.8 MeV. The peaks have local significances ranging from 3.6$σ$ to 7.2$σ$. After accounting for the look-elsewhere effect, the significances of the $Ω_b(6316)^-$ and $Ω_b(6330)^-$ peaks are reduced to 2.1$σ$ and 2.6$σ$ respectively, while the two higher mass peaks exceed 5$σ$. The observed peaks are consistent with expectations for excited $Ω_b^-$ resonances.

We present the first results on isospin amplitudes in $b$-baryon decays, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.5 fb$^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb detector in $pp$ collisions at center of mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The isospin amplitude ratio $|A_1(Λ_b^0\to J/ψΣ^0)/A_0(Λ_b^0\to J/ψΛ)|$, where the subscript on $A$ indicates the final-state isospin, is measured to be less than 1/21.8 at 95\% confidence level. The Cabibbo suppressed $Ξ_b^0\to J/ψΛ$ decay is observed for the first time, allowing for the measurement $|A_0(Ξ_b^0\to J/ψΛ)/A_{1/2}(Ξ_b^0\to J/ψΞ^0)| =0.37 \pm 0.06\pm 0.02$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

The charm baryons are reconstructed through the decays $Λ_c^+\to pK^-π^+$, $Ξ_c^+\to pK^-π^+$ and $Ξ_c^0\to pK^-K^-π^+$, and originate from semimuonic decays of beauty baryons. The lifetimes are measured relative to that of the $D^+$ meson, and are determined to be \begin{align*}
τ_{Λ_c^+} &= 203.5\pm1.0\pm1.3\pm1.4~{\rm fs}, \newline
τ_{Ξ_c^+} &= 456.8\pm3.5\pm2.9\pm3.1~{\rm fs}, \newline
τ_{Ξ_c^0} &= 154.5\pm1.7\pm1.6\pm1.0~{\rm fs}, \end{align*} where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the $D^+$ lifetime. The measurements are approximately 3--4 times more precise than the current world average values. The $Λ_c^+$ and $Ξ_c^+$ lifetimes are in agreement with previous measurements; however, the $Ξ_c^0$ baryon lifetime is approximately 3.3 standard deviations larger than the world average value.

These ratios, averaged over the $b$-hadron transverse momenta from 4 to 25 GeV and pseudorapidity from 2 to 5, are $0.122 \pm 0.006$ for $\overline{B}_s^0$, and $0.259 \pm 0.018$ for $Λ_b^0$, where the uncertainties arise from both statistical and systematic sources. The $Λ_b^0$ ratio depends strongly on transverse momentum, while the $\overline{B}_s^0$ ratio shows a mild dependence. Neither ratio shows variations with pseudorapidity. The measurements are made using semileptonic decays to minimize theoretical uncertainties. In addition, the ratio of $D^+$ to $D^0$ mesons produced in the sum of $\overline{B}^0$ and $B^-$ semileptonic decays is determined as $0.359\pm0.006\pm 0.009$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic.

Permanent electric dipole moments (EDMs) of fundamental particles provide powerful probes for physics beyond the Standard Model. We propose to search for the EDM of strange and charm baryons at LHC, extending the ongoing experimental program on the neutron, muon, atoms, molecules and light nuclei. The EDM of strange Lambda baryons, selected from weak decays of charm baryons produced in pp collisions at LHC, can be determined by studying the spin precession in the magnetic field of the detector tracking system. A test of CPT symmetry can be performed by measuring the magnetic dipole moment of Lambda and anti-Lambda baryons. For short-lived Lambdac+ and Xic+ baryons, to be produced in a fixed-target experiment using the 7 TeV LHC beam and channeled in a bent crystal, the spin precession is induced by the intense electromagnetic field between crystal atomic planes. The experimental layout based on the LHCb detector and the expected sensitivities in the coming years are discussed.

The most general parametrization of the $tbW$ vertex includes a right coupling $V_R$ that is zero at tree level in the standard model. This quantity may be measured at the Large Hadron Collider where the physics of the top decay is currently investigated. This coupling is present in new physics models at tree level and/or through radiative corrections, so its measurement can be sensitive to non standard physics. In this paper we compute the leading electroweak and QCD contributions to the top $V_R$ coupling in the standard model. This value is the starting point in order to separate the standard model effects and, then, search for new physics. We also propose observables that can be addressed at the LHC in order to measure this coupling. These observables are defined in such a way that they do not receive tree level contributions from the standard model and are directly proportional to the right coupling. Bounds on new physics models can be obtained through the measurements of these observables.

We compute the one loop right and left anomalous tensor couplings ($g_R$ and $g_L$, respectively) for the top quark, in the aligned two-Higgs-doublet model. They are the magnetic-like couplings in the most general parameterization of the $tbW$ vertex. We find that the aligned two-Higgs doublet model, that includes as particular cases some of the most studied extensions of the Higgs sector, introduces new electroweak contributions and provides theoretical predictions that are very sensitive to both new scalar masses and the neutral scalar mixing angle. For a large area in the parameters space we obtain significant deviations in both the real and the imaginary parts of the couplings $g_R$ and $g_L$, compared to the predictions given by the electroweak sector of the Standard Model. The most important ones are those involving the imaginary part of the left coupling $g_{L}$ and the real part of the right coupling $g_R$. The real part of $g_L$ and the imaginary part of $g_R$ also show an important sensitivity to new physics scenarios. The model can also account for new CP violation effects via the introduction of complex alignment parameters that have important consequences on the values for the imaginary parts of the couplings. The top anomalous tensor couplings will be measured at the LHC and at future colliders providing a complementary insight on new physics, independent from the bounds in top decays coming from B physics and $b \rightarrow s γ$.

The South Pole Telescope (SPT) has probed an expanded angular range of the CMB temperature power spectrum. Their recent analysis of the latest cosmological data prefers nonzero neutrino masses, mnu = 0.32+-0.11 eV. This result, if confirmed by the upcoming Planck data, has deep implications on the discovery of the nature of neutrinos. In particular, the values of the effective neutrino mass involved in neutrinoless double beta decay (bb0nu) are severely constrained for both the direct and inverse hierarchy, making a discovery much more likely. In this paper, we focus in xenon-based bb0nu experiments, on the double grounds of their good performance and the suitability of the technology to large-mass scaling. We show that the current generation, with effective masses in the range of 100 kg and conceivable exposures in the range of 500 kg year, could already have a sizable opportunity to observe bb0nu events, and their combined discovery potential is quite large. The next generation, with an exposure in the range of 10 ton year, would have a much more enhanced sensitivity, in particular due to the very low specific background that all the xenon technologies (liquid xenon, high-pressure xenon and xenon dissolved in liquid scintillator) can achieve. In addition, a high-pressure xenon gas TPC also features superb energy resolution. We show that such detector can fully explore the range of allowed effective Majorana masses, thus making a discovery very likely.

We compute the real and imaginary parts of the one-loop electroweak contributions to the left and right tensorial anomalous couplings of the $tbW$ vertex in the Standard Model (SM). For both tensorial couplings we find that the real part of the electroweak SM correction is close to 10$%$ of the leading contribution given by the QCD gluon exchange. We also find that the electroweak real and imaginary parts for the anomalous right coupling are almost of the same order of magnitude. The one loop SM prediction for the real part of the left coupling is close to the 3$σ$ discovery limit derived from $b\rightarrow s γ$. Besides, taking into account that the predictions of new physics interactions are also at the level of a few percents when compared with the one loop QCD gluon exchange, these electroweak corrections should be taken into account in order to disentangle new physics effects from the standard ones. These anomalous tensorial couplings of the top quark will be investigated at the LHC in the near future where sensitivity to these contributions may be achieved.

We show that the precise determination of the Tau magnetic properties is possible in the next generation accelerators, specially at B/Flavour factories. We define spin correlation observables suitable to extract the real part of the magnetic form factor that, for the first time, will allow to test the standard model-QED predictions. In particular, the predicted QED-dependence with both the momentum transfer and the lepton mass can be precisely measured. Until now, the most stringent bounds on the $τ$ magnetic moment $a_τ$ come from LEP data with strong assumptions on the physics involved on the observed process. In this paper, we find three different combinations of spin correlations of the outgoing Taus that disentangle the magnetic moment form factor of the Tau lepton in the electromagnetic vertex. These combinations of asymmetries also get rid off the contributions coming from Z-mediating amplitudes to the defined correlations. Using unpolarized electron beams and an integrated luminosity of $15 \times 10^{18} b^{-1}$, the sensitivity to the $τ$ magnetic moment form factor is of the order $10^{-6}$. This sensitivity is two orders of magnitude better than the present existing high- or low-energy bounds on the magnetic moment and would allow its actual measurement with the precision of a few per cent.

The proposed high-luminosity B/Flavor factories offer new opportunities for the improved determination of the fundamental physical parameters of standard heavy leptons. Compared to the electron or the muon case, the magnetic properties of the $τ$ lepton are largely unexplored. We show that the electromagnetic properties of the $τ$, and in particular its magnetic form factor, may be measured competitively in these facilities, using unpolarized or polarized electron beams. Various observables of the $τ$'s produced on top of the $Υ$ resonances, such as cross-section and normal polarization for unpolarized electrons or longitudinal and transverse asymmetries for polarized beams, can be combined in order to increase the sensitivity on the magnetic moment form factor. In the case of polarized electrons, we identify a special combination of transverse and longitudinal $τ$ polarizations able to disentangle this anomalous magnetic form factor from both the charge form factor and the interference with the Z-mediating amplitude. For an integrated luminosity of $15 \times 10^{18} b^{-1}$ one could achieve a sensitivity of about $10^{-6}$, which is several orders of magnitude below any other existing high- or low-energy bound on the magnetic moment. Thus one may obtain a QED test of this fundamental quantity to a few % precision.

This is accomplished through the systematic decomposition of physical amplitudes into effective self-energies, vertices, and boxes, which separately respect electroweak gauge invariance. In this way the NCR stems solely from an effective proper photon-neutrino one-loop vertex, which satisfies a naive, QED-like Ward identity. The NCR so defined may be extracted from experiment, at least in principle, by expressing a set of experimental electron-neutrino cross-sections in terms of the finite NCR and two additional gauge- and renormalization-group-invariant quantities, corresponding to the electroweak effective charge and mixing angle.

We present a method which allows, at least in principle, the direct extraction of the gauge-invariant and process-independent neutrino charge radius (NCR) from experiments. Under special kinematic conditions, the judicious combination of neutrino and anti-neutrino forward differential cross-sections allows the exclusion of all target-dependent contributions, such as gauge-independent box-graphs, not related to the NCR. We show that the remaining contributions contain universal, renormalization group invariant combinations, such as the electroweak effective charge and the running mixing angle, which must be also separated out. By considering the appropriate number of independent experiments we show that one may systematically eliminate these universal terms, and finally express the NCR entirely in terms of physical cross-sections. Even though the kinematic conditions and the required precision may render the proposed experiments unfeasible, at the conceptual level the analysis presented here allows for the promotion of the NCR into a genuine physical observable.

Using the pinch technique we construct at one-loop order a neutrino charge radius, which is finite, depends neither on the gauge-fixing parameter nor on the gauge-fixing scheme employed, and is process-independent. This definition stems solely from an effective proper photon-neutrino one-loop vertex, with no reference to box or self-energy contributions. The role of the $WW$ box in this construction is critically examined. In particular it is shown that the exclusion of the effective WW box from the definition of the neutrino charge radius is not a matter of convention but is in fact dynamically realized when the target-fermions are right-handedly polarized. In this way we obtain a unique decomposition of effective self-energies, vertices, and boxes, which separately respect electroweak gauge invariance. We elaborate on the tree-level origin of the mechanism which enforces at one-loop level massive cancellations among the longitudinal momenta appearing in the Feynman diagrams, and in particular those associated with the non-abelian character of the theory. Various issues related to the known connection between the pinch technique and the Background Field Method are further clarified. Explicit closed expressions for the neutrino charge radius are reported.

First, we deduce a formal Ward-Takahashi identity which implies the immediate cancellation of the neutrino electric charge. This Ward-Takahashi identity is as simple as that for QED. The computation of the (proper and improper) one loop vertex diagrams contributing to the neutrino electric charge is also presented in an arbitrary gauge, checking in this way the Ward-Takahashi identity previously obtained. Finally, the calculation of the magnetic moment of the neutrino, in the minimal extension of the Standard Model with massive Dirac neutrinos, is presented, showing its gauge parameter and gauge structure independence explicitly.

Abstract:
We show that transverse and normal single-$tau$ polarization of $tau$ pairs produced at $e^+$ $e^-$ unpolarized collisions, at the $Z$ peak, are sensitive to weak (magnetic and electric) dipole moments of the $tau$. We show that transverse and normal single-$tau$ polarization of $tau$ pairs produced at $e^+$ $e^-$ unpolarized collisions, at the $Z$ peak, are sensitive to weak (magnetic and electric) dipole moments of the $tau$. We also show how these components of the $τ$ polarization are accessible by measuring appropriate azimuthal asymmetries in the angular distribution of its decay products. Sensitivities of the order of $10^{-18}$ $e\cdot cm$, for the weak-electric dipole moment, and $10^{-4}$ ($10^{-3}$), for the real (imaginary) part of the weak-magnetic dipole moment of $τ$, may be achieved. Compatible bounds are also presented from spin-spin correlated asymmetries.

$ηγZ$ anomaly from the $η-->γμ+μ-$ decay

Abstract:
We show that the $ηγZ$ anomaly can be measured by analysing parity-violating effects in the $η-->γμ+μ-$ decay. In this sense, we find that the longitudinal polarization of the outgoing $μ^+$ is an appropriate observable to be considered in future high-statistics $η$ factories. The effect is expected to lie in the range $10^{-5}-10^{-6}$ in the Standard Model.

Here we present a complete computation of these quantities within the Standard Model. We show that decoupling properties with respect to heavy particles do take place in the weak magnetic moment. The obtained values, a_b(M_Z^2)=(2.98-1.56i)x10^(-4) and a_c(M_Z^2)=(-2.80+1.09i)x10^(-5) are dominated by one-gluon exchange diagrams. The electroweak corrections are less than 1% of the total magnitude.

WEAK DIPOLE MOMENTS AT ${\bf e^+e^-}$ COLLIDERS
Authors:

Abstract:
The weak dipole moments of leptons and quarks, \ie those related to their $Z$--coupling, are reviewed. Standard Model predictions and experimental results may result in a stringent test for both their pointlike structure and also for the Standard Model. Special attention is devoted to the anomalous weak--magnetic dipole moment and to the $CP$--violating weak--electric dipole moment.

We show that coherent $η$ and $\etap$ photoproduction by means of the Primakoff Effect on the proton depends on the strange component of the neutral axial current coupling. We construct polarization asymmetries that are sensitive to this coupling through the $γ- Z$ interference. The $η^\prime$ is not a Goldstone boson of a spontaneously broken chiral symmetry, but a phenomenological analysis of the $η$ and $η^\prime$ production through chiral perturbation theory allows to calculate the observables of interest. The polarized proton or polarized photon asymmetries are predicted to be close to
$10^{-4}$ for $-q^2 \sim 0.1-0.5\;\mbox{\rm GeV}^2$.

Abstract:
We calculate the prediction for the anomalous weak-magnetic form factor of the tau lepton at $q^2=M_Z^2$ within the Standard Model. With all particles on-shell, this is a electroweak gauge invariant quantity. Its value is $a_τ^w (M_Z^2)= - \;(2.10 + 0.61\, i) \times 10^{-6}$. We show that the transverse and normal components of the single-tau polarization of tau pairs produced at $e^+e^-$ unpolarized collisions are sensitive to the real and absorptive parts of the anomalous weak-magnetic dipole moment of the tau. The sensitivity one can achieve at LEP in the measurement of this dipole moment is discussed.
