Experimental data concerning binary events in peripheral collisions for the systems 93Nb+93Nb and 93Nb+116Sn at 38 MeV/nucleon, collected with the Fiasco setup, are compared with calculations performed with the dynamic code AMD, coupled with the statistical code Gemini used as an afterburner. The comparison focuses on the properties of the quasiprojectile (QP) and on the total multiplicities of the emitted light charged particles. A good reproduction of the average mass ratio, charge Z and c.m. angle of the QP is obtained in the examined impact parameter range (b~7-12 fm). Concerning the light charged particles, a general agreement is found for the total emitted charge, while some discrepancy remains for the multiplicities of the various species, especially for the protons which are always overestimated by the calculations.

The experimental data show that staggering effects rapidly decrease with increasing size of the fragments. Moreover the staggering in N is definitely larger than the one in Z. Similar general features are qualitatively reproduced by the GEMINI code. Concerning the comparison of the two systems, the staggering in N is in general rather similar, being slightly larger only for the lightest fragments produced in the n-rich system. In contrast the staggering in Z, although smaller than that in N, is sizably larger for the n-poor system with respect to the n-rich one.

Isospin transport phenomena in dissipative heavy ion collisions have been investigated at Fermi energies with a beam of 84Kr at 35AMeV. A comparison of the <N>/Z of light and medium products forward-emitted in the centre of mass frame when the beam impinges on a n-poor 112Sn and a n-rich 124Sn targets is presented. Data were collected by means of a three-layer telescope with very good performances in terms of mass identification (full isotopic resolution up to Z about 20 for ions punching through the first detector layer) built by the FAZIA Collaboration and located just beyond the grazing angle for both reactions. The <N>/Z of the decay products emitted when the n-rich target is used is always higher than that associated to the n-poor one. Since the detector was able to measure only fragments coming from the QuasiProjectile decay and/or neck emission, the observed behaviour can be ascribed to the isospin diffusion, driven by the isospin gradient between QuasiProjectile and QuasiTarget. Moreover, for light fragments the <N>/Z as a function of the lab velocity of the fragment increases when we move from the QuasiProjectile velocity to the centre of mass (neck zone). This effect can be interpreted as an evidence of isospin drift driven by the density gradient between the QuasiProjectile zone (at normal density) and the more diluted neck zone.

The fragments, detected close to the grazing angle, are mainly emitted from the phase-space region of the projectile. The fragment isotopic content clearly depends on the n-richness of the target and it is a direct evidence of isospin diffusion between projectile and target. The observed enhanced neutron richness of light fragments emitted from the phase-space region close to the center of mass of the system can be interpreted as an effect of isospin drift in the diluted neck region.

For light fragments, staggering appears to be substantially independent of the centrality of the collisions, suggesting that it is mainly related to the last few steps in the decay of hot nuclei.

We report on binary dissipative collisions of 93Nb + 93Nb at 38AMeV in which we measured an abundant emission of particles and fragments not originated from the usual evaporative decay of hot primary fragments. We checked the compatibility of these emissions with the multifragmentation of a source which forms in the overlap region. One can fairly well reproduce the data assuming a hot and dilute source, possibly more n-rich than the initial nuclei; the results appear to be insensitive to the source size.

Light charged particles emitted at about 90 deg in the frame of the projectile-like fragment in semi-peripheral collisions of 93Nb+93Nb at 38A MeV give evidence for the simultaneous occurrence of two different production mechanisms. This is demonstrated by differences in the kinetic energy spectra and in the isotopic composition of the particles. The emission with a softer kinetic energy spectrum and a low N/Z ratio for the hydrogen isotopes is attributed to an evaporation process. The harder emission, with a much higher N/Z ratio, can be attributed to a ``midvelocity'' process consisting of a non-isotropic emission, on a short time-scale, from the surface of the projectile-like fragment.

The midvelocity emission has been separated from the emission of the projectile-like fragment. This last component appears to be compatible with an evaporation from an equilibrated source at normal density, as described by the statistical code Gemini at the appropriate excitation energy.
On the contrary, the midvelocity emission presents remarkable differences for what concerns both the dependence of the multiplicities on the energy deposited in the midvelocity region and the isotopic composition of the emitted light charged particles.

Peripheral and semi-peripheral collisions have been studied in the system 93Nb+93Nb at 38 AMeV. The evaporative and midvelocity components of the light charged particle and intermediate mass fragment emissions have been carefully disentangled. In this way it was possible to obtain the average amount not only of charge and mass, but also of energy, pertaining to the midvelocity emission, as a function of an impact parameter estimator. This emission has a very important role in the overall balance of the reaction, as it accounts for a large fraction of the emitted mass and for more than half of the dissipated energy. As such, it may give precious clues on the microscopic mechanism of energy transport from the interaction zone toward the target and projectile remnants.

The $φ$-meson production cross section is measured for the first time at a sub-threshold energy of 1.93 AGeV in \nuc{58}{Ni}+\nuc{58}{Ni} central collisions. The $φ$ data were obtained within the acceptance of the CDC/Barrel subsystem of FOPI. For a sample of $4.7\cdot 10^6$ central events, after background subtraction, 23 candidates were observed. Extensive GEANT simulations of the detector performance are shown in a thorough comparison to the real response, aiming at a good understanding of the apparatus and at a trustable determination of the efficiencies, production probability and possible systematic errors. A filter procedure is elaborated, which is meant to facilitate the comparison of any theoretical calculation or new data with the current ones. How to extrapolate the present value to a $φ$-meson cross section in $4π$ is also discussed. This result on pseudo-vector mesons can now be compared to existing experimental knowledge for the same reaction at the same incident energy for various outgoing channels, $K^+$ and $K^-$ included. A significant fraction (at least 20%) of the $K^-$-mesons is originating in the decay of the $φ$, supporting the statement that the two channels are strongly correlated.

For 0-neutrino 2-beta decay with emission of one or two Majorons, the limits are T{1/2}(0-neutrino M1) >=3.7(5.8)*10**21 y and T{1/2}(0-neutrino M2)>=5.9(9.4)*10**20 y at 90%(68%) C.L. Restrictions on the value of the neutrino mass, right-handed admixtures in the weak interaction, and the neutrino-Majoron coupling constant are derived as: m(neutrino)<=2.6(1.4) eV, eta <=3.9*10**-8, lambda <=3.4*10**-6, and g{M}<= 12(9.5)*10**-5 at 90%(68%) C.L., respectively.

Abstract:
Light charged particles emitted by the projectile-like fragment were measured in the direct and reverse collision of $^{93}$Nb and $^{116}$Sn at 25 AMeV. The experimental multiplicities of Hydrogen and Helium particles as a function of the primary mass of the emitting fragment show evidence for a correlation with net mass transfer. The ratio of Hydrogen and Helium multiplicities points to a depe…

The experimental multiplicities of Hydrogen and Helium particles as a function of the primary mass of the emitting fragment show evidence for a correlation with net mass transfer. The ratio of Hydrogen and Helium multiplicities points to a dependence of the angular momentum sharing on the net mass transfer.

Abstract:
Primary and secondary masses of heavy reaction products have been deduced from kinematics and E-ToF measurements, respectively, for the direct and reverse collisions of 100Mo with 120Sn at 14.1 A MeV. Direct experimental evidence of the correlation of energy-sharing with net mass transfer and model-independent results on the evolution of the average excitation from equal-energy to equal-temperat…
