Torque on slowly moving electric or magnetic dipoles in vacuo
Abstract: The torque on a moving electric or magnetic dipole in slow motion is deduced using the Lorentz transformation of the fields to first order in v/c. It is shown that the obtained equations are independent of the model adopted for the dipole, whether it is of Amperian or Gilbertian type, thus showing the complete validity of the Ampère equivalence principle even in dynamical conditions. The torque is… ▽ More

Force on slowly moving variable electric or magnetic dipoles in vacuo
Abstract: The force on electric and magnetic dipoles moving in vacuo is discussed in the general case of time-variable non-uniform fields and time-variable dipole moments, to first order in v/c and neglecting radiation reaction. Emphasis is given to the symmetry between electric and magnetic dipoles, justifying in general Ampère's equivalence principle, and showing that the difference between gilbertian and… ▽ More

Interaction between an electric charge and a magnetic dipole of any kind (permanent, para- or dia- magnetic or superconducting)
Abstract: The interaction between point charge and magnetic dipole is usually considered only for the case of a rigid ferromagnetic dipole (constant-current): here the analysis of force, momentum and energy (including the energy provided by the internal current generator) is generalised to any magnetic dipole behaviour: rigid, paramagnetic, diamagnetic or superconducting (perfectly diamagnetic).

Static interaction between electrically polarisable particles in vacuo
Abstract: The static interaction of a point charge and a polarisable particle and between two polarisable particles is discussed in vacuo, and force and energy considerations are made. In particular a critical distance is shown (in principle) to appear in the two-dipole case, where the polarisation is self- sustained, and above which it disappears and below which it tends to explode. In the case of a polari… ▽ More

Chasing beams and muon colliders
Abstract: A possible alternative way of producing muons (or other unstable particles) for colliders is proposed. It consists in colliding beams in a "chasing beam" configuration, i.e. collisions of two beams having the same direction but with different energies. This would produce muons with a good collimation, having already a high energy from the beginning, and then a longer life.

Electromagnetic interactions derived from potentials: charge and magnetic dipole
Abstract: We discuss some elementary examples of interactions (at low velocity) between point charges and magnetic dipoles using potentials, along the lines indicated by Konopinsky, and show that the physical interpretation might look quite different than using fields. In particular Lorentz's force does not appear explicitly, and has different interpretations in different cases. Also, the scalar potential f… ▽ More

Spatial Coherence of Synchrotron Radiation
Abstract: Theory and measurement of spatial coherence of synchrotron radiation beams are briefly reviewed. Emphasis is given to simple relationships between electron beam characteristics and far field properties of the light beam.
