|Mugulusi for U.S. Senate (New York) 2022 - Progressive Democrat
My name is Moses Mugulusi a Candidate for U.S. Senate. I have worked for many years in public service, from auditing Medicaid programs to regulating financial institutions with one goal to serve the people of NY. I'm running for U.S. Senate to go to Washington and strongly advocate for the struggling everyday people & small businesses across NY state. The rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer and the politicians in Washington are busy serving corporations and special interest groups.
When I first immigrated to the United States, I believed that there was only one America. I worked in numerous jobs including a factory, retail stores-eventually with the help of student loans I attended college. There I earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and later a master’s degree in finance. I began my public service work, auditing Medicaid Programs and finally worked as a Regulator of Financial Institutions. My work as a Medicaid Program auditor gave me the opportunity to go to so many parts of NY state, & as a Financial Regulator I had an opportunity to go to so many states in U.S. & I can say that I have a fair understanding of the issues affecting our communities. Through my work travels, I learned that there are two Americas. One is the rich America, where the upper class continue to gain and gain, and the other is the Working America, where poor and middle-class families are struggling.
- Medicare for All
- Affordable/Low Income Housing
- A living wage
Public Health Policy - we need a robust healthcare system, I'm for Medicare for All.
what we have today is not working thousands of people die every year due to lack of access to care, over 34 million people in USA are diabetic and the majority of them cannot afford the lifesaving Drug Insulin, some have resorted to drug rationing, I have come across many as I go through communities and their stories are heartbreaking. Our Senior Citizen don’t have their healthcare needs such as Eyecare, Dental and hearing Aids covered.
The number one driver of bankruptcy today is medical bills, over 530,000 families turn to bankruptcy every year due to medical expenses, total medical debt is over $140 Billion
Economic Policy - Bank overdraft fees, financial institutions collect billions of dollars every year from the struggling working families in fees, we need to limit overdraft fees to $5, the current $34 is putting a lot of burden to the already struggling people.
Housing Policy & Childcare - we should supply and deliver affordable/low-income housing to the American people, there is not a single county in this nation with enough affordable housing.
Education Policy - we need to invest more in the American people, and we start by funding Pre-K programs to college level. when our people get the skills to succussed, we do well as a nation
Campaign Finance - reform
Term Limits for members of congress
Climate change
The responsibility of a senator of someone elected to office is to serve the people in the community they represent
Today we have some members of Congress who have been in Washington for over 20 years, a lot of talking but no action, to this day, thousands of people die every year due to lack of access to care, over 34 million people in USA are diabetic and the majority of them cannot afford the lifesaving Drug Insulin and some have resorted to drug rationing, I have come across many as I go through communities and their stories are heartbreaking. Our Senior Citizen don’t have their healthcare needs such as Eyecare, Dental and hearing Aids covered.
I will advocate for investments in our communities to enhance our quality of life –A living wage, Affordable Housing with a path to homeownership, Childcare, Mental health, Jobs creation initiatives, Accessible & quality education/Adult learning hubs to connect adult learners, Student debt crisis relief, holding the bad police officers accountable for their actions and Climate change as one of the most critical issues of our generation.
Will advance legislations to end the high costs of - Prescription drugs, Higher education, Bank overdraft fees, ATM fees and the exorbitant Late fees, which put a lot of burden to the already struggling people
Alegacy of Service
I have worked for many years in public service, from auditing Medicaid programs to regulating financial institutions with one goal to serve the people of NY. I'm running for U.S. Senate (NY) 2022 to go to Washington and strongly advocate for the struggling everyday people & small businesses across NY state.
I have always answered the call to serve our state, Ebola Virus breakout- In September 2014, the CDC confirmed the first travel associated case of Ebola in United States in a man who travelled from West Africa to Dallas, Texas, the patient died just a few days later. New York State went into high protection mode, creating a command center at major airports to carryout data analysis, monitor and screen all international flights, when the state called on volunteers to help in this undertaking, I answered the call, and I worked with JFK airport command center team.
Covid -19 hit and terrorized New York State to a point where our fellow New Yorkers were dying in thousands a day, eventually the state secured some resources to get people tested-the situation was overwhelming, very limited resources against millions of people trying to get tested in order to be able to find out their status if they had covid or not. The state called on volunteers to help with screening and scheduling – I answered the call, I was on the team that worked 24/7.
The pandemic exposed the vulnerabilities that already existed: Housing, economic and health disparities were all present but have only deepened. And as the pandemic continues to ravage through our poor communities and the people continue to experience the devastating consequences the rich have gotten richer, while the poor have gotten poorer.
We can do better, I'm here to answer the call of service to make a difference.
From the Difficulty - by Mr. M
The book is about this character who faced so many obstacles in life, but he kept going forward
I support term limits - there is a lot of talking today about protecting our Democracy, it should start with Term limits, the more time people spend in Washington the more they get entrenched in the swamp and corruption and stop working for the American people but special interest groups and dark money bosses
The filibuster was intended to ensure Democracy by requiring major policies to pass the senate by 60 votes, since it's very difficult for any one party to have 60 senators passing major policy legislations would mean both parties working together in order to get policies passed - that's Democracy
Without the filibuster we can end up with one party rule - that's not Democracy.

Campaign website
Mugulusi's campaign website stated the following:
“ |
Platform The power is in our hands to shape our future – we have to start now Time and time again, New Yorkers show up for each other — even when their elected officials fail to show up for them. We need leadership in Washington that values all of its constituents — from restaurant workers to small business operators. We invest in our communities to enhance our quality of life — not diminish it. And we deserve a Representative who works hard all the time to give a voice to all of his constituents, especially those who’s humanity has been silenced, suppressed and denied. Moses Mugulusi’ s policy platform is built on the belief that a good system should work for all the people and that we are stronger and better positioned to grow when every New Yorker is prioritized, eliminating unfairness and barriers to prosperity. The people who help keep New York state as the number one financial hub in the world have been locked out of the benefits and continue to struggle day in and day out. New Yorkers you have the power to vote out the leaders who prioritize the rich and powerful and special interest groups that have swamped Washington and elect a leader who has the will to prioritize the poor and the working-class Americans all the time. Moses Mugulusi is that leader. As a U.S Representative, I will finally center the needs of those disproportionately underserved, because it is the right thing to do and because it benefits everyone, prosperous communities happy America[2] |
