WWCC Guerrieri Technology Center earns LEED Silver Certification

Posted

SALISBURY — Becker Morgan Group is proud to announce that the Guerrieri Technology Center at Wor-Wic Community College has achieved LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This significant achievement underscores Wor-Wic’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible design. The certification validates the design principles Becker Morgan Group and our design partner Perkins & Will utilized to ensure that the building provides a healthy, efficient, and cost-saving environment for its users while contributing to the community’s overall well-being. According to the USGBC, the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification system is the foremost program for “transforming the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life.”

The Guerrieri Technology Center is Wor-Wic’s first LEED certified facility and is a cornerstone of innovation and technology education on the campus of Wor-Wic Community College. The facility was meticulously designed and constructed to meet the stringent requirements set by USGBC for energy, lighting, water, and material use, as well as incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies. Key features include highly efficient HVAC systems and optimized natural lighting to reduce electrical consumption. The project also emphasized water conservation through the implementation of low-flow fixtures and native, drought-resistant landscaping to minimize irrigation water usage. These elements contributed significantly to the building’s overall sustainability performance and helped secure the LEED Silver Certification.

Brad A. Hastings, AIA, LEED AP, Principal-In-Charge, expressed his pride in the project, stating, “Achieving LEED Silver for the Guerrieri Technology Center is a testament to the design team’s dedication to sustainable design. This certification exemplifies the teamwork displayed by Wor-Wic, the design team, and our contractors throughout the entire process. We are honored to deliver a project that not only meets the high standards of USGBC but also serves the community’s educational needs while minimizing environmental impact.”

Becker Morgan Group extends its gratitude to all project partners and the stakeholders at Wor-Wic Community College for their cooperation and commitment to achieving this prestigious certification. This project represents a significant advancement in sustainable design for the College and an inspiring model for future construction in the area.
