Ovaj gen je član porodice TAFA koja se sastoji od pet visoko homolognih gena koji kodiraju male sekretne proteine . Ovi proteini sadrže konzervirane cisteinske ostatke na fiksnim pozicijama i udaljeni su sa CCL3 , članom porodice CC-hemokina . TAFA proteini su pretežno eksprimirani u specifičnim regijama mozga i pretpostavlja se da funkcionišu kao hemokini ili neurokini , specifični za mozak, koji djeluju kao regulatori imunskih i nervnih ćelija .[ 6]
