The Debian mailing list archive does not protect at
all the sender of the email from falling into
spammer's hands. Thousands of valid email addresses
are exposed to email harvesting bots operated by
unscrupulous spammers.

Spam has been on a big and steady increase, so I urge
you to enable the best protection available of those
email addresses and regenerate the archives as soon as
possible. While the operation to re-generate the
archive pages may be computationally intensive,
protecting people's addresses is a justification for
performing this one-time operation.

The list archive should be responsible towards the
addresses archived in it, so let us act on this now!

How do you propose to hide or obfuscate email addresses?  For the
record, let me point out refutations to common methods.

Images: Debian has blind developers, and these images would not be
visible in text-mode browsers such as lynx.  Additionally, this makes it
difficult to copy-and-paste email addresses from webpages.

Using "at" and "dot" or other text: this is trivial to invert, and much
spam software already does this.

Using Javascript: many people (myself included) run with Javascript
turned off for security reasons, and this won't work in text-mode
browsers.  This is also trivial to work around with automated tools.
