Friday night saw hip-hop star Mos Def perform at Freeborn Hall. But the concert, co-sponsored by the ASUCD Entertainment Council, delivered anything but the expected. Following extended sets by openers, a few delay tactics and an open-mic freestyle flow contest between audience members, the tardy rapper finally took the stage two hours late at around 11 p.m. According to ASUCD Entertainment Council Director Vanessa Beard, the tour manager blamed heavy Bay Area traffic. Mos Def, who seemed to be slightly disoriented from the trafficladen trip, attempted to sway the restless crowd by thanking Sacramento and expressing his love for the city 15 miles east of here. C.M.
