Alcoa Fire Department began as the result of this growing industrial city and the need for a fire department to serve the citizens of Alcoa. Starting as a volunteer group, employees of ALCOA formed the first Alcoa firefighting department in 1942. Today the City had about 40 Career Firefighters operate out of 4 stations and serve an area of 15 square miles that includes over 10,000 residences and 800 businesses. The department provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, technical rescue, and hazardous materials mitigation to the City of Alcoa community. The department uses some of the most up-to-date technology and actively supports the community through public fire education, fire prevention, and emergency response

AFD is now recognized as a Class 1 Fire Department and the only fire department in Tennessee that is both a Class 1 and Internationally Accredited. http://www.cityofalcoa-tn.gov/340/Fire
