Deadwood alum W. Earl Brown is the latest regular cast addition to AMC‘s drama pilot Preacher, based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic. Brown will play a character from the comic in the project, from Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, Sony TV and AMC Studios, which centers on Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to literally find God. Brown will play Sheriff Hugo Root, the mean-hearted father of Eugene Root aka Arseface (Ian Colletti), a flinty-eyed, conspiracy-credulous redneck who is not a fool and has a vulnerability to him. Lucy Griffiths also co-stars.
Brown, repped by Greene & Assoc. and manager Lynn Rawlins, co-stars on the first installment of John Ridley’s ABC anthology drama series American Crime and will next be seen recurring on Season 2 of HBO’s True Detective.
