Coral Grief

From Dragon Quest Wiki

First appearing in Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, Coral Grief is a nautically themed spell that bombards all enemies with sharpened shards of scleractinia.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

Coral grief is learned by reaching rank 7 of the Pirate vocation, and it hits all foes for 80~110 for 8MP. Despite the spell's animation and oceanic theme, it actually carries the same rock/strike element of Boulder Toss and Knuckle Sandwich.

  • In the 3DS remake of VII, Coral grief can only be used by the Pirate vocation and is now learned at rank 3. For players who do not want to take the pillager's path, the Watermaul wand now casts the spell instead of the Tidal Wave skill.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

The Pirate vocation learns Coral grief at level 74, and it has a casting time of 50 seconds. It costs 20 MP to cast and will target one enemy at 15 meters while dealing damage to adjacent foes within 7 meters. It uses the Wind element in this title, not the Earth element used by the Crag family of spells. The damage calculation is (magical might - 200) x 450/799 + 300~400, giving the spell a range of 750~850 at 999 magical might. If the Pirate's magical might is raised past the limit to 1,500 via buffs and equipment, the damage calculation becomes (magical might - 999)/3 + 750~850 for 917~1017 damage

Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End[edit]

Coral Grief is one of Cesar's spells. It conjures a large geyser of water and coral shards some few meters in front of the swordsman.

Dragon Quest of the Stars[edit]

Coral Grief is an A-rank spell that deals major Earth spell damage to all enemies, has a CT of 30s (15s at max level) and can be obtained from the Trial of the Four Spirits event in exchange for 25 golden event tickets.
