BirdFlow Postdoctoral Associate

See full listing here.

BirdFlow is an innovative, NSF-funded project that uses the Cornell Lab’s eBird database to infer the movements of migratory birds across the annual cycle. The Postdoctoral Associate will lead research that utilizes BirdFlow models to expand our knowledge of bird movements, including studying migratory connectivity and its associations with population trends, investigating species’ resilience to climate change and environmental fluctuations, and exploring BirdFlow models for providing real-time information on species’ movements in the context of the BirdCast public website. The postdoc will also work on integrating additional data sources, such as BirdCast radar data, individual tracking data and banding data, to improve and validate BirdFlow models. With the BirdFlow team, the postdoc will have an opportunity to contribute to products and software that will be released for scientists, conservation practitioners, industry, and the public to explore and investigate the phenomenon of avian migration. The application period closes on July 8th.

Merlin Sound ID Annotator – Part-time Contracts

Apply here

We have a limited number of opportunities for part-time contracts to annotate recordings to train Merlin Sound ID. The goal of this effort is to expand Merlin to more regions and improve performance of Merlin’s machine learning models. This opportunity requires the ability to identify all the vocalizations (songs, calls, flight calls) of birds of a country or region. The job requires a high-level of attention to detail while identifying vocalizations to species and drawing boxes around vocalizations on a spectrogram. This annotation work is done via a web browser on a desktop or laptop computer. We are particularly interested in people with in-depth knowledge of the birds of North America, Amazonia, Mexico, Western Palearctic, India, and Australia. If you are interested in this opportunity please share a cover letter describing your skills identifying birds by ear and share a resume here.
