Recently, the famous Babson task (Black promotes to one of the four possible pieces and White must promote to the same piece in all four cases to win) has been conquered by Gady Costeff in an endgame study. Many thought it to be impossible to realize this extremely difficult task. 10/24/2024 – The 2024 US Chess Championships concluded with Fabiano Caruana and Carissa Yip emerging as outright winners in their respective sections. Caruana secured his fourth national title by defeating Sam Shankland in the final round, finishing 1½ points ahead of his closest rivals. Meanwhile, Yip had already clinched her third US Women's Championship with a round to spare, despite back-to-back losses in rounds 9 and 10.
