Usha Chilukuri Vance (née Chilukuri; born January 6, 1986) is an American lawyer. She is the wife of the junior United States Senator from Ohio, James David Vance.[2]

On July 15, 2024, the former American president and Republican nominee Donald Trump selected her husband as the party's vice presidential candidate. If elected in November 2024, she would become the first woman of color to serve as Second Lady of the United States.
Personal life
Chilukuri is the daughter of Indian immigrants who are both professors. She attended Yale University, graduating Summa cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in history, with membership in Phi Beta Kappa. She then attended Cambridge University in England as a Gates Cambridge Scholar, receiving a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in 2010. In 2013, she earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Yale Law School, where she was the executive editor of the Yale Law Journal and a member of the Yale Journal of Law & Technology.[3]
Chilukuri met her future husband, author James David Vance, while they were students at Yale, a relationship encouraged by their professor Amy Chua.[4]
They married in 2014 in Kentucky, in an Interfaith marriage ceremony.[5][6] They have three children: Ewan (born 2017), Vivek (born 2020), and Mirabel (born 2021).[7][8] Chilukuri is a practicing Hindu and her husband is Roman Catholic.[9][10]
Career
Chilukuri served as a law clerk from 2014–2015 for then–Circuit Judge Brett Kavanaugh and from 2017–2018 for American Chief Justice John Roberts.[11] She was admitted to the DC Bar in May 2019 and worked for the law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP until July 2024.[12]
Chilukuri has served on the board of the Gates Cambridge Alumni Association and as secretary of the board of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.[13]
