Charlie Gray is a British international photographer and director based in London. Gray’s career began with a focus on behind-the-scenes and portrait photography, primarily in the entertainment industry. He has worked with major publications including Vanity Fair, Vogue, and Esquire. His career gained significant momentum in 2008 when BAFTA commissioned him to document their awards, leading to international work with movie studios and theatre productions.[1]
Early life
editGray’s career began at university, where he discovered photography under the guidance of photographic book publisher Stuart Smith. He developed a strong sense of narrative through documentary photography, citing Don McCullin and Martin Parr as major influences.[2]
Exhibitions
editIn September 2023, Gray opened a solo exhibition titled Performance at Leica Gallery in London. The exhibition featured twelve portraits of actors, artists, and musicians, showcasing Gray's narrative style. The portraits included images of Robert De Niro, Ronnie Wood, and Monica Bellucci.[3]
