@Prodrummer619: Please make an requested move here on this article. This is the oldest version of the article. @Skitash:. VR talk 18:22, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Vice regent: That's not the oldest version (It shouldn't be anyways). The original is 2024 Beirut explosion; User:Ecrusized kept moving it without discussion and has led us to this mess. Prodrummer619 (talk) 18:26, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
2024 Beirut explosion was only created 17:21, January 2, 2024‎. This page was created 16:22, January 2, 2024. What am I missing? VR talk 18:29, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Khalil al-Hayya was also reported to have been killed according to the OSINT X account, @sentdefender. This is a well known and well regarded account in the Open Source Intelligence community. Dbrad52 (talk) 22:36, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Unclear wording

edit

"CCTV footage released by MTV Lebanon shows the attack, that took place at around 5:41 PM local time, was a strike which was evident in the footage sound." I'm unclear what this is trying to say. The use of "strike" is ambiguous here. I'm unsure if this is requesting we perform original research. In fact, I'm not sure what this is claiming at all. I do understand this is claiming the attack occurred at 5:41 PM, just not sure what else it is saying. --Yamla (talk) 11:26, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have removed this wording, as I could not determine the meaning behind the words so could not reword it. --Yamla (talk) 11:28, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Unclear wording

edit

"Perpetrator: Israel" should be taken with a pinch of salt, as Israel authorities have not (yet?) recognized it. At least, this (small) doubt should be mentionned in the frame. (related U.S. officials are anonymous, this information is included in the headline of the article, but is not confirmed in any way in the article itself.)

"Type: Drone attack". This is questionable as well. Six 100Kg missiles were used. Not sure Israeli drones may have so much big missiles. Some sources are talking of a plane.

"Motive: Unknown"... Is this a joke?? If you choose to attribute the attack to Israel, the motive is unknow??

(as I'm emotionaly too much involved in this conflict, it is more honest IMHO that I don't perform this change myself) Jay Lev (talk) 11:07, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Does this need its own article?

edit

Not seeing what's inherently notable about the assassination that would preclude this information just being included on Saleh al-Arouri's main page. Longhornsg (talk) 23:43, 5 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, this should be merged to Saleh al-Arouri#Later life and assassination Dazzling4 (talk) 21:33, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

An assumption and not a fact

edit

The first paragraph is as follows: “On 2 January 2024, Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy leader of Hamas, was killed in an Israeli strike on an office in the Dahieh neighborhood of Beirut, Lebanon. The strike also killed six other individuals, including additional high-ranking Hamas militants.”. I think that some caution should be added, like “was killed in an speculated Israeli strike on an office”. Israel did not confirm or deny its involvement in this assassination. It can also be done by the US. 2A06:C701:4702:4400:2092:8519:427C:C641 (talk) 12:20, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I removed the claim that Israel was definitely behind the attack. Look, I think basically everyone in the world believes this, but it's a specific claim that needs an incredibly good citation to back it up, given the state of the conflict. Later on in the article, we claim with a reliable citation that two US officials claimed Israel was responsible. Until we have a better citation, I think that'll do. --Yamla (talk) 21:53, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Contrary to what the Huffingtonpost[1]says, I believe I heard an American source say that it was neither the USA nor Israel, but I cannot find the source.. 86.244.29.149 (talk) 23:05, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Your claim is not correct. Look at the references at bottom of article and you can see most of them have used Israeli as fact, and not as attribution. Israel's denial of responsibility won't change the facts. Makeandtoss (talk) 14:50, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can you please point to the specific sources that list Israel as definitely the source? Feel free to just give numbers from the References section if you wish. Note that you may very well be correct and then I would strongly support you reintroducing Israel in the lead. --Yamla (talk) 15:56, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
"Israeli drone strike in Lebanon's Beirut kills Hamas official Saleh al-Arouri | Al Arabiya English".
"Israeli strike in Lebanon kills senior Hamas official Saleh al-Arouri -security sources". Reuters. 2 January 2024. Retrieved 2 January 2024.
Two examples. Considering Reuters didn't cast doubts on the claim, it should be included, or at least attributed. Makeandtoss (talk) 12:47, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
