Chardin was not a Rococo Painter, he painted during the time of the Rococo Style. He was an Enlightenment Painter, participating in the Genre painting movement in an attempt to show that morals are more important than the frivolous lifestyle of the Rococo. ~Gaabriel Tomko

Having expanded the article, I don't think it's appropriate for me to upgrade its rating, but it is more than a stub now. JNW 15:09, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Removing 'Baptiste' from name

edit

While much literature uses the name "Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin," the "Baptiste" has long been proven to be erroneous. The corresponding French version of this Wikipedia article lays out the evidence quite clearly in the first two footnotes (citing, among other things, the notarial records published in the 1979 exhibition catalog). I would therefore suggest changing the article title to Jean-Siméon Chardin. Owunsch (talk) 21:37, 16 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
