Mio's Bass

edit

I don't know if this is true for the Manga, but in the anime, Mio's Bass is a Left-Handed Fender Jazz Bass and not a Precision Bass. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 156.101.1.5 (talk) 16:04, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mugi's infactuation

edit

In both the manga and the anime, Tsumugi is stunned by the sight of two girls together, and will even make it seem more intimate in her imagination. I dunno why this fact keeps getting taken out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wonchop (talkcontribs) 01:17, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually I think Mugi is lonely and she sees the other girls being closer and friendlier with each other than with her. SHe grew up rich and isolated. Making real friends is hard for her. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.190.97.90 (talk) 21:52, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

My mistake regarding Ui and Azusa >_<

edit

Previously I suggested that Azusa is the one with the extreme talent, but I realise this is a mistake on my part, after reading chapter 19.5. Ui is shown to be pretty good with the guitar when she tried to make up for Yui's absence during her flu by impersonating her sister and playing perfectly during band practice. And she gained that expertise after only a few days of playing.

Much apologies for the mistake. -Estavali (talk) 09:39, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

P-Model/Pillow references

edit

So we keeping them in or not? I say the coincidences are far too many to deny a link to the respective band members. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.12.130.239 (talk) 01:08, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

As of this moment, there's nothing to verify that its true, even if it may be obvious, so they shouldn't be re-added until reliable sources can be found verifying them.--じゅうはち 03:23, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Agreed, glaringly obvious, but get me an interview that says it and we're in business. --Valyim (talk) 20:41, 19 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Adding "allegedly" to the sentence "The characters of K-On! have surnames allegedly derived from members of the Japanese bands P-Model and The Pillows." doesn't lend it credibility. The source given isn't really sufficient for inclusion, so I'd be very tempted to remove the line completely due to WP:NOR and WP:VERIFY, at least until we can get a rock solid reference. David Bailey (talk) 09:40, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
But the news report is from a reputable company, which adds to WP:RS. We could always add "According to a news report by ASCII Media Works..." if you want, but I'd be against the removal of the info entirely, especially because it was annoying keeping it out before the ref was found.--じゅうはち 23:30, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I rewrote the sentence.--ACSE (talk) 04:26, 4 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

A nod to "all your base are belong to us" meme

edit

I don't know if it's worthy of noting, but I'm pretty sure Ritsu mentions "all your sweets are belong to me" when introducing Yui when pretending to be an MC on episode 6.Sakurato (talk) 16:43, 16 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

No, it's not worth mention; if that is true, it'd just be trivia and shouldn't be added.--じゅうはち 20:25, 16 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Additionally the translation is up to interpretation. --Valyim (talk) 20:40, 19 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Things like these actually could be added, like making a new section "Cultural References". Like, there are ton of references to "Detroit Metal City" bladez (talk) 22:45, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Main vocalist: Yui or Mio?

edit

The article says Mio is the main vocalist in the band. Shouldn't that be Yui?

Episode 5 of the anime shows that even though Mio was first appointed as singer, Yui got the job because Mio refused out of embarrassment. Subsequent episodes show that Mio merely sang because Yui couldn't due to her losing her voice (episode 5 and 6), forgetting the lyrics (episode 8) or simply forgetting her guitar and running home to retrieve it (episode 12). And even the After School Tea Time mini album that got released this week has Yui singing on pretty much all tracks. AO968 (talk) 22:14, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yui's Les Paul

edit

For some reason, it was listed as a "Gibson Les Paul classic." this would have to be incorrect. Les Paul classics do not have pick up covers, Yui's guitar clearly has them. And after watching the Blu Ray version of the show, during the opening sequence you can see the word "Standard" on the head stock. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.6.145.171 (talk) 03:27, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Light Music Club"

edit

Changed references to "light music club" into the seemingly more correct nomer "pop music club". Removed the previous entry's unnecessary "it means light music but doesn't mean light music" and just added a "literal translation" note. I trust this more accurate but less literal translation is acceptable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.209.89.42 (talk) 22:18, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Blu-Ray vs. DVD sales

edit

The first Japanese DVD volume of the anime series sold around 33,000 copies to debut seventh in the ranking on the Oricon charts for the week of July 29, 2009.[15] The Blu-ray Disc release of the first volume sold 8,000 copies in the same week, to top the Oricon BD charts.

Let me quote the linked reference:

The Oricon survey firm reports on Wednesday that the first Blu-ray Disc (BD) volume of kakifly and Kyoto Animation's K-ON! anime has sold about 33,000 copies to become the #2 best-selling BD release overall and the #1 television anime BD in Japan so far. ... The first K-ON! DVD volume sold about 8,000 copies to debut at #7 on the latest weekly DVD chart.

K-ON! vs. K-On!

edit

You know, pretty much every credible source from the manga scan used as this article's main image to Anime News Network to Yen Press' official site for the English manga adaptation lists the official romanization of this series as "K-ON!" with all caps. I'm not sure where "K-On!" came from, but I think it should be fixed in this article as soon as possible. 70.171.218.158 (talk) 21:57, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

If using the correct form of K-ON! is "against policy", then first off the policy should be changed because this site is supposed to provide information, but all you're doing is confusing people. At least note in the article that it's supposed to be K-ON!. If you won't have "K-ON!" as the page name, then it should be "K-on!", because it's not two words, it's a stylization of one word. This is the same reason the band's name is "Ho-kago Tea Time", not "Ho-Kago Tea Time", which you did put correctly here. "K-ON!" would be ideal, "K-on!" would be acceptable, but "K-On!" is just nonsense. Alex T Snow (talk) 21:09, 18 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm beginning to think that this article's going to require manga and/or anime references judging from the original research box that's been put here. --Addict 2006 22:20, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Now I don't know what veterans prefer when it comes to citing things here, whether it's the manga chapters or the anime episodes. I'll assume as with the Bleach (manga) manga over anime episodes, but it can vary, especially with minor details only shown in the anime. --Addict 2006 01:19, 8 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Basically, if I throw in an "episode needed" tag, a manga chapter could be cited as well. --Addict 2006 22:22, 8 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Giita

edit

As someone who knows a fair bit of Kanji, Giita spelt as ギーふとし makes little sense, unless it's intentional in the manga? I never saw it in the animé. I would spell it as ギータ as it's clearly a play on ギター (Gitaa, Guitar), and unless it's specified somewhere the name is ギーふとし, it should be changed to ギータ. --189.166.96.215 (talk) 03:17, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Character section

edit

The character section is a bit too long, and while almost all of it is sourced, isn't it already long enough to be split-off? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 04:15, 21 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I feel like character lists are Wikipedia's dirty little secret. More often than not they're split off because of their sheer size, regardless of sourcing or how its written. At least this list does seem to be reasonably sourced and each individual summary isn't that long, although maybe each main character should have at most two paragraphs, and one paragraph for the other characters. The character section is a little less than half of this article's byte content, but at the same time is most of the prose in the article. What I'm mainly worried about is that once a character list on a given article is split, it often gives fans of the series the chance to expand bios, some to ridiculous sizes, with no sourcing, which is never a good thing. At least if it stays here on the main article that can be curbed somewhat, and if we shorten some of it that goes into excessive detail, then it won't be as bad. Character lists are the last big problem in terms of in-universe content, so wherever possible, I would think twice on a split. In this case, I do not believe it's absolutely necessary.--じゅうはち 08:24, 21 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ho-Kago Tea Time

edit

Should Ho-Kago Tea Time as a virtual band should have its own page?

I am putting this on the table since it makes slight sense to me:

  • They have a relatively extensive discography (although used merely as promotion to the anime, their music is distinctively separate from the "K-On!" topic)
  • They accomplished the feat of hitting number one in Japan
  • They have performed live at one moment

Those does seem reasons to warrant they their own page in my view. Since it has been long since I last contributed to Wikipedia, I wanted to put this in discussion before making any moves.

Meaning of 軽音楽けいおんがく

edit

The main description says:

The title of the series comes from the Japanese word keiongaku (軽音楽けいおんがく), which means popular music.

From what I can find online (I know nothing of Japanese), it means "light music". Is "light music" synonymous with "popular music"? Or is this a result of a literal translation or something similar?
