Flag note

edit

I removed the note about the Patriotes flag being the same as an upside-down Hungarian flag. I think that the note suggested some kind of causal relationship (that the Patriotes had their flag as an echo of the Hungarian one, in support or in opposition to Hungarian independence), which seems prima facie illogical and is also not borne out in the facts.

As far as I can tell, the flag of Hungary wasn't used until the 1848 rebellion in that country. It seems much more likely that both the Hungarian and Patriotes flags were inspired by the same source: the French tricolor.

I think juxtaposing the fact that the flag was used by the Patriotes, and that it's an upside-down modern Hungarian flag, is technically true but misleading to readers. It's just not pertinent to this article. --ESP 15:26, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I had intended to remove that bit myself, and then got distracted and forgot. I say it's a good call on your part. In the abscence of any evidence, it was at best a non sequitur, and worst, as you say, implies a false causality. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 15:31, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
