Hi, because of lack of time, i was not able to complete the article yesterday, thank you very much for taking the time to explain me how to use the Harv style and for completing (and correcting my mistakes) my edits at Medo-Babylonian conquest of the Assyrian Empire. Cheers. ---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 21:36, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I see that you check recent edits for appropriateness. I clicked through to see a set of the reversions that you had made for rejected submissions, and I agreed with all of what I saw you had done. It seemed apparent to me through the decisions you made and the comments that you left that you were giving human attention to the decisions you made rather than over-relying on tools and automation. Thanks for that, and thanks especially for the notes you leave. You are doing good review. Blue Rasberry (talk) 01:39, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

For answering a lot of edit requests and helping to keep the backlog at bay. For a while, I was taking care of that on my own, and it feels nice to see someone else get to it first every now and then! Actualcpscm (talk) 17:22, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Actualcpscm: thank you very much for the encouragement and for tackling those time consuming edit requests that tend to be pushed to the back of the queue. Keep up the great work! Best, M.Bitton (talk) 22:39, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Also, on a related note, I would love to do some more map work once I have more time in late summer. Do you have any good guides on how to get started on maps for Wikipedia? :) KluskaSlaska (talk) 16:21, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Due to unrelated drama I won't bore you with, I found myself looking at the history of this article, and uuh, thanks. A whole lot of POV-pushing was going on. When I have fewer tabs open I will try to remember to come back and give you a barnstar.

Western Sahara

edit

Hi

Do you have reliable sources about States positions about Western Sahara? Because in some cases, sources aligned with government of Morrocco are not reliable. Panam2014 (talk) 13:51, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Panam2014: unfortunately, I don't have a list per se. You're right, a lot of entries are either attributed to unreliable sources, misrepresented sources or both and all attempts at addressing the issue have failed because of the never ending stream of single purpose accounts, socks, etc. That said, if you're willing to clean-up the French version, let me know and I will email you what I have. M.Bitton (talk) 17:32, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am interested by some source. In en:wiki, does such problem have been solved (socks, POV pushing)? Panam2014 (talk) 17:51, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, we haven't solved the problem of the sources misrepresentation (because of fatigue, I guess). M.Bitton (talk) 17:57, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
With the role of social media, I think we should stop the POV pushing now. Because Wikipedia is used for promoting such POVs. So please give me the source, or you could use them here then I will translate the english article. Panam2014 (talk) 10:12, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
The problem is while recogniztion of Western Sahara republic is made by heads of state, position of states in support of Morrocco is made by ambassadors, foreing ministers, or others ministers. For example, for Spanish government, Yolanda Díaz's positions are not cabinet's positions. But Morroccan sources considers such statments as officials. Panam2014 (talk) 16:00, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Panam2014: I do share you concerns. Not only are the sources misrepresented to mean recognition of sovereignty when they don't, but if you check the ones that are supposed to mean "support" for the autonomy proposal, you'll find that the overwhelming majority of them don't actually say that: stating that the autonomy is a "viable option", "good basis", "important contribution", etc., is not the same as openly "supporting" it by saying so, or stating that it's the only option. When they do support it, it usually makes the news (as in the case of France).
The Moroccan sources (and those that parrot them) are unreliable when it comes to WS, as they tend to twist, if not openly lie about what was said. Their journalists also have a habit of asking foreign politicians whether their country supports Morocco's "territorial integrity", when they say yes (why wouldn't they?), then their answer is misrepresented as meaning that they support Morocco's claim to WS (which is pure nonsense).
One way to prevent the misinformation and the usual POV is to use the official sources of the countries in question and stick to what is stated in them. M.Bitton (talk) 16:47, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Does the English page seem up to date to be translated into French? Panam2014 (talk) 17:52, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Panam2014: Unfortunately, no. The overwhelming majority of the entries for the so-called "autonomy support" are factually incorrect. M.Bitton (talk) 17:58, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
What is the solution? Reversing to 2022's version? It is time to fix the article. In French Wikipedia, some users have added 102 (!) countries. Panam2014 (talk) 18:06, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Panam2014: as far as the French version is concerned, and given how quick the admins are there at blocking the usual suspects, the easiest solution is to nuke that section and let the burden of proof lie with those who want to restore it (while making sure that don't misrepresent the sources). M.Bitton (talk) 18:10, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok. Could you send me the sources? Panam2014 (talk) 18:16, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Panam2014: this is an issue of sources misrepresentation, i.e., it's the cited sources that do not support what they are meant to support that need to be removed. Checking them one by one is time consuming, that's why I suggested you shift the burden of proof on those who are adding them. M.Bitton (talk) 18:23, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. And for this? Regards. Panam2014 (talk) 19:02, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Panam2014: I'll look for the examples that I checked and will email them to you. Please bear in mind that it might take a few days. Best, M.Bitton (talk) 19:26, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
No problem. Best regards. Panam2014 (talk) 19:33, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello @Panam2014
I assume you're referring to this article Political status of Western Sahara.
I'd say the section on the states supporting the SADR's position is fairly well sourced, with clear statements taken from official outlets, but the section on states supporting the Moroccan autonomy proposal has a lot of interpretation and relies heavily on Moroccan sources, so it's not as solid and could use further work.
That being said, the article is still much better than the French version, that one is so bad I didn't even dare touch it. It needs to completely overhauled. Sizito (talk) 17:15, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Sizito: Yes. Could you update the english article? So I will upload the french. Panam2014 (talk) 17:16, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
