Jennifer Connelly
editHi Phil, some time ago you made some copy-editing in Jennifer Connelly's article. Currently, the article is ongoing a Peer review. The article needs a more refined copy-editing, and I would really appreciate if you can take some time to work on it. Thanks.--GDuwenTell me! 02:39, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

- Hi Phil, I'm here to request your help again with the article. We just finished a new peer review, and probably the article needs some more copy-editing. BTW in the Personal life section, I can't figure out how to rephrase "She was featured in an advertisement highlighting the global need for clean water which favored donations for drilling projects in Africa, India, and Central America", it's very similar to the sentence of the source. Thanks again!!!--GDuwenTell me! 15:47, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi, best I can come up with is "She appeared in an advertisement which highlighted the global need for clean water and sought donations for African, Indian, and Central American drilling projects." Cheers, ► Philg88 ◄ talk 23:18, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me, thanks.--GDuwenTell me! 15:20, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Phil, I have been doing modifications in the article recently, and since you have done most of the previous copy-editing, it would be really useful if you could do another check (specially punctuation or the use of commas or colons in quotations). Thanks for your time!--GDuwenTell me! 15:24, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Suresh Bhardwaj
editHi Philg88. Just looking for something to copyedit, I came across Suresh Bhardwaj and, from its history, I think you've copyedited it already, but not removed the "copyedit" from the multiple issues tag, and not claimed it on the drive page. (I haven't done anything in case you intended to return to it.) Cheers, --Stfg (talk) 09:52, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Edits
editHi
I just noticed you edited the lead of 39th Army (Soviet Union) here with the edit summary:
- "in accordance "with" not to - ce for verb usage and word redundancy - spaces per WP:MOS"
Can you point me to where MoS directs editors to included the nbsp as you did there?
I also do not see what is wrong with "in accordance to a directive from the Stavka". Although "with" is the more commonly used preposition, "to" is also acceptable (in case you think I am mad my OED says "...with, (rarely, to)" and other sites such as Grammarist and Grammerly grammar checker also agree both are valid). I would normally use "in accordance to (something specific such as a law, regulation or directive)" and "in accordance with (general terms and plurals)" - I am interested to see how you can prove "with" is the only possible usage.
Hope all is well as I haven't seen much of you on the GOCE requests page lately! Chaosdruid (talk) 02:55, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hi CD, see bullet point 3 here for the date formatting guidance.
- I have no axe to grind over the use of "to" instead of "with" but to my delicate English ears it sounds nasty. Note the OED's use of the word "rarely", which probably means it is only used by a remote tribe of pygmies in the rain forests of Borneo.
- I have been around the requests page (ten done this month) but most of my effort has been on the backlog drive. Cheers, ► Philg88 ◄ talk 03:13, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- I wish I was a pygmy sometimes, or at least that I was living in the rain forests of Borneo (although with a good electricity supply from a nearby waterfall, a nice fat 100Mb net connection and a very waterproof bunker with a really good dehumidifier lol)
- The date one I still would not be able to justify using in all cases myself, the "end of the line" is variable according to the readers resolution etc. and the example given only seems to be relevant to MM DD rather than MM DD YY or DD MM YY, I do wish MoS was less of a battleground and more of a help with examples that cover usage in more detail, we had this with "MM DD, YY" where the MoS example says "comma required" but in reality it is two commas required - "MM DD, YY, blah blah..." lol
- Good luck with the GOCE awards, I have little chance this time as I have been to busy in RL to do any real work on the backlog. Next one should be a good one though as I will have lots of free time :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 04:01, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hmmm, having re-read that I should have said "to justify using it in all cases myself...as a script or bot should really take care of that" to clarify what I meant, as adding them to all the cases I come across would mean an extra 10-15% of my time spent on copy-editing articles as I also suppose that the nsbp should be added between them all, 1nsbpJannsbp2011 etc...Chaosdruid (talk) 04:04, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
You forgot the AC for the bunker :) Very necessary in this part of the world :
MOS is sometimes akin to the sayings of a new-age prophet in its obtuseness, however in this case it only seems to require the nbsp between the day and month. As for the scripts, they don't seem to all sing from the same stylesheet. Best ► Philg88 ◄ talk 07:30, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive newsletter
edit Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating!
There were 63 signups for the drive; of these, 45 participated. Although we did not award a bonus for articles from the Requests page this drive, we are not experiencing lengthy delays in getting the articles processed. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.
During the month of May we reduced the backlog by approximately 10%, and made remarkable progress on eliminating articles tagged from 2009. There are now only 15 articles left, down from the 415 that were present when the drive started. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 54% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their June drive has started.
The six-month term for our first tranche of Guild coordinators will be expiring at the end of June. We will be accepting nominations for the second tranche of coordinators, who will also serve a six-month term. Nominations will open starting on June 5. For complete information, please have a look at the election page. Please feel free to contact any coordinator if you have any questions or need assistance. Your project coordinators are S Masters (talk), Diannaa (Talk), Tea with toast (Talk), Chaosdruid (talk), and Torchiest (talk). |

Not a poor effort at all. These are not easy articles to create and my job is easy when the meaning is obvious but the wording a little obtuse. I'll try and pick up the 2nd Battalion article from the GOCE page but right now I have taken on Old City, Hyderabad which requires considerably more work than any of your requests. edit Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload new images. However, it appears that one or more of the images you have recently uploaded or added to an article may fail our non-free image policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted image of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free image criteria. Please note that we take very seriously our criteria on non-free image uploads and users who repeatedly upload or misuse non-free images may be blocked from editing. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.

Δ T The only constant 11:25, 21 June 2011 (UTC)- You need to read up on Wikipedia fair use policy. According to your assertion every single logo on Wikipedia will have to be deleted. Second you stated that you where moving the files to "Commons" by that comment I assumed that you where referring to commons:Main Page and they except Zero non-free content.
- The use of non-free content is governed by the strict non-free content criteria. These files fail criterion 10, as they do not have a non-free use rationale for that use. This is why Delta removed the files. However, they also fail criterion 8, as the use of the logos simply does not add a great amount to that particular article. Permission for use on Wikipedia doesn't really count for much; unless released under a free license or into the public domain, the images must be treated as non-free content. J Milburn (talk) 11:36, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- (ec)Lets take as an example File:Hklandlogo.png - that is a non-free image, a piece of copyrighted material. It has a fair use rationale for Hongkong Land, which is fine. It is the logo for that. However, it was also included on Jardine Matheson Holdings - first, for that article the includer did not write a fair-use rationale (see the image description: "A detailed non-free use rationale is required for every article the logo is used in" - WP:NFCC#10c). Moreover, I would judge it there as purely ornamental - it is not the logo of the organisation of the article, but of a small part, where there is a link to a page where it is allowed (so fails WP:NFCC#8). So there is a place where you can use it under fair-use (so no, the file should not be deleted), but where you were it was used (and removed by Delta) it is not.
- These images can not be uploaded on Commons - as you are not allowed to upload non-free material on commons. They will be deleted there, and then you will also deprive Hongkong Land from its logo. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:41, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Same as you - China means the PRC. ► Philg88 ◄ talk 23:12, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
- Same as you, same as me, same as the whole planet. So, isn't the proposal at China talk an improvement? It might be a step in the right direction. I can't make up my mind. Bottom line is almost all who click China, want PRC. That should supersede all. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:26, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
- "China means the PRC" Oh really? The problem is 'China' is often meant to mean mainland China only, especially in publications regarding economics/trade and aviation. It is a common treatment that has unfortunately been neglected at the discussion of late. —HXL: 聊天 (T)
和 貢獻 (C) 23:41, 8 July 2011 (UTC) - If you think China means the PRC then why are you strongly opposing moving the article on the Chinese civilisation from China to Chinese civilisation? -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 21:44, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
- If you're referring to me, I'm not. I added my support. It's an improvement, but just slightly. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:33, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
I didn't even know about it till the other day, and was shocked to see it on google maps. Did you know? Snapshots? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:01, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I've done some tour guiding for passengers from the visiting cruise ships. Sorry, no photos though. ► Philg88 ◄ talk 23:12, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
