Etymology

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋しゃく譜ふ詳しょう節ぶし / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 그〮림〮 (Yale: kúlím). Substantive form of 그리다 (geurida, “to draw”).
