editFrom German Sinese (“a Chinese person”), from Sina (“China”) + -ese (“-ese: forming demonyms”), from Medieval Latin Sina (“China”) + -ensis (“-ese: forming adjs”), from Latin Sinae (“the Southern Chinese, Southern China”), from Ancient Greek. Equivalent to Sino- + -ese.
