SkyCable is a direct-to-home cable TV subscription service, established by the Lopez Group of Companies and Central CATV Group Of Companies. SkyCABLE is the leading cable TV company in the Philippines; they serve almost all major cities in Metro Manila and have affiliates almost all-around the Philippines.

SkyCable should not be confused with British Sky Broadcasting in the UK -- neither they nor its parent, News Corporation, own any interest in SkyCable.

SkyCable Gold

SkyCable Gold (formerly SkyCable) is an analog cable TV service, costs PHP814 (about US$15.65) per month. Besides from the channels offered from SkyCable Silver, SkyCable Gold has the following channels:

SkyCable Silver

SkyCable Silver (formerly Home Cable and Sun Cable) is an analog/digital cable TV service with channels like AXN, STAR World, etc.

SkyCable Platinum is a digital cable TV service, which has over 148 channels and has 3 different packages:

  • HBO Movie Package (3 addtitonal HBO Asia movie channels).
  • Metro Pack (a fusion of lifestyle, news, classic movies, international and kids channels).
  • MBC Pack (home of Korean channel MBC).

  • 1992 – SkyCable is founded.
  • 1996 - SkyCable launched its first local news channel, Sarimanok News Network (now ABS-CBN News Channel).
  • October 19, 2001 Home Cable to lose the STAR TV channels, STAR TV acquired Home Cable.
  • July 1, 2005 – SkyCable changed its new channel guide; acquires Home Cable and Sun Cable.
  • October 1, 2005 – SkyCable launched Hero channel 44 in a test broadcast from November 30 to December 31. Programming started on January.
  • October 15 and December 15 – SkyCable launches Crime/Suspense and ETC 2nd Avenue.
  • January 2006 – SkyCABLE changed to SkyCABLE Gold, .and Home Cable and SunCable changed to SkyCABLE Silver
  • March 16, 2006 – SkyCABLE launches SkyCABLE Platinum channels, included in Sky SKED.
  • April 11, 2006 - SkyCable launches commercials for SkyCABLE Platinum, seen on MySKY & SkySKED and as a filter on some channels. One ad is info of SkyCable Platinum for new subscribers. Another involves a long remote after a man picks it up under his bed.
  • April 12, 2006 - SkyCABLE are starting to show previews of SkyCABLE Platinum Channels on SkySked Channel 33. Channels from the HBOPak each have 5 to 10 minute previews, while channels from the Metro Pack each have 15 to 30 minute previews.
  • May 2006 - SkyCable added additional promos for their service; one involving the long remote again; handed out to someone else. Another is a promo for a HP Pavilion Media Center PC.
  • July 12, 2006 - QTV moves to ch.24, leaving ZPDee Channel to Ch 11
  • Sept 01, 2006 - KBS World replaced Arirang TV (Channel 75)

This is SkyCable's lone pay-per-view service channel. It broadcasts:

Post-merger SkyCable promotions

1 -- Wowowee discontinued being the part of the promo because of the said "Wowowee Stampede". SkyCable took over the promo before Year 2 of the show. No relation to the Japanese WOWOW service.

Competition

SkyCable competes with many cable TV providers in Metro Manila, some only operating in a certain locale in Metro Manila. But SkyCable's major competitor is Global Destiny Cable, which also operates metrowide.

SkyCable's advantages against Global Destiny are:

  • SkyCable practically has more subscribers than Global Destiny.
  • Some channels which were once exclusive to Global Destiny are now available on SkyCable (majority of which are on Gold and Platinum). These channels are:
  • SkyCable has more exclusive channels than that of Global Destiny. So far, majority of Global Destiny's exclusive channels are international channels, which are pretty much useless. On the other hand, SkyCable's channels not available on Global Destiny (some of which are available on DREAM Satellite TV) are much more appealing. These are:
