Kerissa Khan MRAeS is a Trinidadian aeronautical engineer and current president of the Royal Aeronautical Society.[1][2]
Khan grew up in Rio Claro and Mayaro, Trinidad and went to school at ASJA Primary School in Princes Town and then Naparima Girls' High School.[2] She obtained her pilots licence based at Piarco International Airport, and subsequently moved to Scotland where she would earn a Master of Engineering with Honours in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Glasgow in 2012.[1][3]
Employed by UK Research and Innovation focusing on "future flight"[4], in 2016 Khan was elected as the youngest ever member of the Royal Aeronautical Society's council. She was then elected president for 2023–24, becoming the second woman (after Jenny Body in 2013–14) to hold the position.[5]
Previous professional roles include research and development of aerospace systems for aircraft across military, commercial and business sectors – the Bombardier Global 7500 being the first plane she worked on designing.[2] Others include "...the Airbus A320, A321, A330, A350, Boeing 787, Tornado and Eurofighter jets."[6]
Khan is a Roman Catholic[2] and has Type 1 diabetes.[7]
