Anti-MDA5 Dermatomyositis

Anti-melanoma differentiation-associated protein 5 (MDA5) antibody-positive dermatomyositis (MDA5-DM)[1] is a subtype of dermatomyositis (not to be confused with Dermatology). The aetiology, still unclear, however, new study suggests that viral infection is a potential trigger of MDA5-DM. Many factors, some of which, T cells, B cells, neutrophils and macrophages, are implicated in the pathophysiology of MDA5-DM. MDA5-DM is still a rare systemic autoimmune disease.
