Revision as of 04:58, 9 November 2005

I'm going to be in Australia in November for X|Media|Lab, where I'm talking about the Wikimedia projects and Ourmedia at the conference, and acting as a mentor for the lab.

I will be in Sydney on November 20 and 21 and it would be great to have a meetup then. If you are interested in coming, please express a day preference below, and suggest a good place to meet. I'm also planning a meetup in Melbourne. Angela. 04:00, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sunday, November 20

  • Angela (though I'll be jet-lagged)
  • Sunday is most likely going to be best for everyone, considering that on Mondays most Wikipedians will have to go to work, uni or school. However I work a 9-day fornight at Sydney Water (owned by the NSW state government) so I will be to take that Monday off -- Ianblair23 (talk) 05:07, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • This sounds good to me! I gotta work on Monday I'm afraid... Angela, if you're near Nth Sydney we could do lunch? - Ta bu shi da yu 14:04, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sunday is most likely to be free for me; probably unable to do anything Monday but please don't let me make things difficult for the rest of you! --Daveb 03:41, 6 November 2005 (UTC) 08:50, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Best for me too, as I'll be working on Monday. Anywhere in the city is fine by me. :) --K. AKA Konrad West TALK 10:49, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Best for me too Newhoggy | Talk 11:32, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Peter Konnecke Best day for me but Monday is not out of the question Peter Konnecke 04:44, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Captainmax Sunday's best for me, although I could also do Monday if it's in the evening.

Monday, November 21

  • Angela (this is my first preference)
  • CJLL Wright (if central location, either lunchtime or after work)
  • Angela, will you be here in the evening? - Ta bu shi da yu 08:59, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, I should be, though I've not actually been able to book the flight yet, so I'm not 100% sure. Angela. 05:30, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Location

  • Wouldn't it be easier to meet at Town Hall steps and then go from there? - Ta bu shi da yu 14:07, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Being the harbour city a look around the harbour areas is probably high on a visitor's agenda. Cheers, Daveb 03:42, 6 November 2005 (UTC) 08:50, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • If it was lunch then we could meet on the steps to the opera house (which is close to public transport!) and then walk to the botanic gardens (as tbsdy suggested) or maybe somewhere in the rocks (also close to public transport). The Lowenbrau is a great pub in the rocks where we could eat, drink and be merry. It'd be just as good for lunch as dinner. I don't know if it has wireless internet though... • Paddy McGuires Pub at Star City is good too ... very transport accessible (parking + light rail + monorail) Peter Konnecke 04:40, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Any day should be fine for me - meeting at the Opera House is a good idea, being close to Circular Square train station, on the Harbour and near the Botanic Gardens. I like the Lowenbrau pub too - hey, the Rocks is certainly one of the most interesting and attractive parts of the city. Vernon_Gedanken [Sunday, 6 November 2005]
  • Where are we meeting?! - Ta bu shi da yu 13:13, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • How about going with your suggestion of the town hall, which sounds easy to find, and then deciding from there? Angela. 16:56, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

Tell us Angela, have you ever been to Australia before? -- Ianblair23 (talk) 05:07, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No, I haven't. Angela. 05:17, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately as much as I wish I could attend I cant travel to Sydney :( Cartman02au 07:25, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I can't make it either, due to previous commitments Daesumnor . 7:15, 5 November, 2005 (GMT + 11)

Go ahead, choose my day. (Happy with either) Andjam 13:21, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tim & others, Got the invite - Thanks, but can't make it down. I was thinking about somewhere appropriate to take Angela during her 2-day flying visit, which means finding a bit about her interests. Her early edits (a good way to find a wikipedian's passions) suggests sports cars, something I know nothing about. Someone should take her for a hoon across the bridge in a 120Y or something. 8-) She posted interests of education, psychology and religion in those early edits, which suggests somewhere cultured ... or do you just look for somewhere near an open wifi node?
