Steel Magnolias is an American comedy-drama television film directed by Kenny Leon that premiered at Lifetime Network on October 7, 2012.[1] It is a remake of 1989 film of the same name starring Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah and Julia Roberts.[2] The new film stars an all-African American cast, including Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, Condola Rashād, Adepero Oduye, with Phylicia Rashād and Alfre Woodard as Ouiser.[3][4]

Critical reception
The film has been met with positive reviews from critics, with a score of 74 out of 100 from Metacritic.[5] Many critics praised Alfre Woodard's performance as Ouiser.[6]
Ratings
It premiered on Sunday, October 7, 2012 on Lifetime and earned 6.5 million viewers. It is the 3rd highest viewed Lifetime Original.[7]
Award
Alfre Woodard was nominated in Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie for performance as Ouiser.[8]
