Kathleen Connell was the California State Controller from 1995 until 2003.[1] When she was Controller, she ran for mayor of Los Angeles in 2001[2] but came in 6th in the April 10, 2001 primary getting 24,062 votes (4.82%).[3] and served as a trustee of CalPERS and CalSTRS, which together comprise the largest pool of retirement assets in the world, for eight years. She was unable to run in 2002 due to term limits.
Elections
In 1994, she defeated ex-State Assemblyman Tom McClintock for California State Controller.
In 1998, she won re-election, in a landslide vote, against Ruben Barrales. In that election, she won 55 of 58 California's counties.
Personal life
She is currently President of the Connell Group, an investment advisory firm located in Washington, D.C.. Dr. Connell has been an investment banker in New York and Los Angeles.
Connell has a Ph.D. from the UCLA[2] Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Planning and resides in Washington, DC.
