Daequan Cook is a freshman shooting guard for Ohio State Buckeyes.
Early Years
Born April 28, 1987, Daquean Cook is the son of Renae Cook. Cook has three siblings Keishawn, Wendell, and Tauyonne.
High School Career
Daequan Cook attended Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio. As a senior, he led Dunbar to a Ohio Division II state championship. In two games at Ohio State's Value City Arena, he averaged 24.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 3.5 steals in 30.5 minutes per game. Cook earned Ohio Division II third team all-state honors as a sophomore and was a first team selection and the Division II co-player of the year as both a junior and senior. He was named onto the 2006 McDonald's All-American Team. Playing for the West, Daequan scored 17 points, making 5 of 9 3-pointers in the win.
Cook also played with Greg Oden and Mike Conley Jr. on the SPIECE Indy Heat high school AAU team. Cook was the team's leading scorer in the 2004 Big Time event in Las Vegas. The team was undefeated and won the championship.
College Career
One of Ohio State University Coach Thad Matta's famed "Thad Five", Cook has been averaging 10.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and .7 steals on 20.4 minutes per game. Known for his pure jump shot and ability to drive to the rim, Cook is said to have the potential to be a star. Many experts believe that Cook will jump to the NBA after finishing his freshman year.
