Irene Komnene Palaiologina
Appearance
Eulogy Paleologina is a Byzantine aristocrat - the older sister of the Byzantine Emperor Michael VIII Palaiologos.
He stood at the head of the Orthodox Party, strongly opposed to his brother's Uniate policy, for which she and some of her family members were repressed by order of the emperor.
Irina marries John Kantakouzenos (pinkernes). Known children of this couple include:[1]
- Theodora, who married (1) George Mouzalon, (2) John Raoul Petraliphas;
- Maria, wife of Constantine Tikh;
- Anna, wife of Nikephoros I Komnenos Doukas;
- Eugenia, wife of Syrgiannes, and was the mother of Syrgiannes Palaiologos; and
- A possible fifth unnamed daughter, who married Theodore Mouzalon.
After the death of John Kantakouzen, Irina Paleologina became a monk and took the name Eulogy.
