The Tanjore Row, or Thanjavur Rao family,[1] also known as the Reddy Royars, was a Tamil-Marathi Deshastha Brahmin clan from Tanjore who distinguished themselves in civil administration in the nineteenth century and thereafter.[2][3] Originally migrant to Tamil lands in the train of Vyankoji Bhosale, Maratha general and half-brother to Shivaji, they established themselves in the resulting small Thanjavur Maratha kingdom in a civil capacity, extending their civil service to the British after Serfoji II yielded the management of his realms,[4] with scions consequently becoming Dewans of Travancore (four members), Indore (two members), Hyderabad & Berar, Baroda, and Mysore.
