Biography

[edit]

Early days

[edit]

When Kalen was in elementary school, she admired an electone player and started playing the electone. Around the time she entered junior high school, her father took her to a live performance of The Rolling Stones, and he started listening to rock music . Admiring the saxophone performance, she joined the brass band when she was a junior high school student and started playing the alto saxophone . Originally she wanted to play jazz.[2] In the third year of junior high school, she was so enthusiastic about the brass band that she won a gold prize (no money) at the Shonan district brass band competition and a gold prize at the ensemble contest. Anzai was a practice addicted who came to class first thing in the morning and silently practiced individually. Her time in the brass band club was "youth", and she said that it was "the most enjoyable memory".[3][4]

2019: Debut trilogy

[edit]

In April 2019, M.A.C JAPAN, who knew her through RELECT, requested her to be the first female artist to serve as a model for the storefront collection visuals of the cosmetic brand M.A.C for three consecutive months.[5]

She debuted with her song 世界せかいすべてきかんじて孤独こどくさえあいしていた (Sekai no subete teki ni kanjite kodoku sae itoshite ita).[6]

On February 29, 2020, she was selected to star in a drama series based on the novel M_あいすべきひとがいて (M: Beloved Someone), written by Narumi Komatsu based on legendary J-pop star Ayumi Hamasaki early life confessions, which was broadcast from April of the same year it was announced. She had a starring role with Shohei Miura, and this is Anzai's first time trying full-scale acting. This drama appearance wasn't by an audition, but an office staff suggestion. Since Anzai never thought she would be acting, she took acting lessons for about half a year after the lead role was decided.[1]

She was later first recognized by the gyaru style from her song 'GAL-TRAP'. She did not recognize herself as a gyaru or even what is now called pos-gyaru; this is a term for gyaru that are still participating post Heisei era.[7] She is currently producing music.
