The content of this page is almost identical to Gannet - since the two are so closely related, I'd think one page for both would make better sense, with 'booby' being a redirect to 'gannet'. Anyone any comments? - MPF 21:27, 3 Feb 2004 (UTC)

no problem for me, they're often considered congeneric anyway

If noone objects I would like to replace the Spanish slang term bubi by bobo. I never came across the term bubi with that meaning. The spanish coloquial name for both 'gannet' and 'booby' is pájaro bobo. pájaro means bird, bobo means stupid or fool[ish] (Dunce is a close approximation, another would be Jester). bobo is derived from lat. Balbus, meaning Stammer. Oh just in case your dictionary says pajaro bobo is a penguin: there is a long list of birds named pájaro bobo including all penguins (Spheniscidae), a few Cuckoos (a Coccyzus an several Saurothera), the Blue-crowned Motmot Momotus momota and even some trees (no joke) - 212.114.230.150 13:45, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In the Dominican Republic sulidae are called bubí, elsewhere pájaro bobo or just boba (female form of bobo). bubí is not a Spanish word according to DICCIONARIO DE LA LENGUA ESPAÑOLA de la Real Academia Española current 23rd edition 83.171.156.185 08:37, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Co-incidence

Funnily enough, I saw my first picture of this bird today in a magazine called Focus. Then it becomes the featured picture? What interesting birds. Don't they have blue feet? Deskana (talk) 00:08, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blue-footed Booby does, Red-footed Booby doesn't! jimfbleak 07:13, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. That makes a lot of sense! ;-) — ceejayoz talk 16:06, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
