Slovak Television (STV; Slovenská televízia in Slovak) is a state-owned public television network in Slovakia. It was created in 1991 from the Slovak part of the former Czechoslovak Television (established in 1956). STV is funded from a combination of television licence fees, advertising, and government funding.
Currently there are three channels: Jednotka ("One"), Dvojka ("Two") (called STV1 and STV2 before the name change in 2004), and Trojka ("Three"), a sports channel, launched in 2008. These are covering practically the whole territory of Slovakia.
It was once a 24 hours TV during Czechoslovakia in 1987-1994 but it changed all programs so program remains 6:00-1:30.
Availability
All channels are available on analogue terrestrial television and cable, and via the Astra 3A satellite at 23.5° east through CS Link and Sky Link. The channels were moved from the Eurobird 1 satellite (28.5°E) in late 2005, which caused complaints from people in parts of the country who could not receive the signal from the new position, even with a one-metre diameter satellite dish. They are also available from Astra 1KR at 19.2° east.
